NOT THE FULL SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought i was ordering season 1....should of made it clear that it was not season 1 just 4 episodes...3rd time amazon has done this to me this

They left out alcoholism
Addiction and the horrific influence it has on the lives of addicts and their families is certainly portrayed in this 4 episode release. Its a sampling of the different forms of addiction; the stories in this DVD compilation show a wide range of addiction scenarios, but they don't show much about one of the most common addictions that wreck lives every day, that being straight up, widespread, easy to ignore, alcoholism. This isn't to say that alcoholism is more important or more common or more devastating than addictions to drugs, shopping or gambling.It does show how wide ranging addictive behavior can be. I bought this DVD as a way to introduce some members of my family to the concept of intervention and I feel they would have related to it better had there been an episode on alcoholism. Its good in the sense that it could be a primer for those who are just beginning to consider the concept of an intervention for a loved one, or for some who are finding the courage to seek and understand the raw and painful complexities of addiction. It does offer a measure of hope for healing,but also illustrates the hard work and sacrifice that is required of the addict and of those in relationship with the addict. This was a hard DVD for my loved ones to watch and because it didn't zero in on the issues we are facing as a family, I am not sure I will have another chance. However, the A and E Network does have available most of the individual episodes from all seasons. I feel a person would do better to research those and find one that resonates.

Do Not Buy This!!!
This DVD is only FOUR episodes from the first season. First I must say, I love the show... but I am so disappointed in this release. All the great drama, all the struggling and the good and bad of addiction are lost. This is a "money maker" release. I am sure that A&E will soon see the errors of their ways, and release the entire season.
There are Thirteen episodes in the first season. This release is a very sad attempt to show the episodes they (A&E) think are a successes... and a poor attempt to get your money. The episodes that are NOT on this DVD are the ones that truly help (us) "the addicts".
This review and my only true hope is that this excellent channel will soon get it right and release all the episodes, in a season, as was aired. There is so much more to this show than these... measly FOUR... episodes allow you to see. The true struggles, failures and success, are only briefly glimpsed in this release.
The show is great! So... I will wait!!! for A&E to come to their senses and release season one - in it's entirety! There is a reason you can buy this DVD used... the emotion is lost. FOUR out of 13 episodes. This is a sad day for people of addiction.

Exellent!
I teach addictions as part of my class on Mental Health Nursing. This product was well worth adding to my teaching materials. The bonus updates are great as well.

My suggestion
I have been watching Intervention since I was about 10 be warned this show is graphic and may be disturbing to some viewers. This is a show every one should have to watch going through peer pressure for abusing drugs and dealing with drug abuse I have never thought of using drugs after I had watched this show it may be graphic but it will show you the true horrors of drugs abuse

Too close to home...
This was the first episode I ever saw of intervention. My mom taped it for me to watch because she told me it was about a girl who cut herself. I wasn't sure what to expect, but seeing her story so raw, so real, so close to my own, just brought tears to my eyes. After watching it all I could say was, "I wish I had had an intervention". I still watch the show because it is real life and I know what it's like to struggle with addiction and mental illness day in and day out. I am not recovered, but I'm trying. Tamela's story made me want to get better. I hope she knows that she's touched many lives through this special episode. I wish her all the best because I know it is not an easy road.

Hurray I am not crazy....this is real....
After years of knowing in my spirit that my loved ones' personality and and their justifications for poor choices were not my failure in doing the right things, this book has given me sound doctrine. The book gives concise examples of enabling which all of us have done from time to time. After reading, I know what cushions the addiction and what techniques to use to help the addicted person not entangle me any longer.. I have been able to use the tools in the book and not be in a constant state of anxiety and frustration knowing that I have no control over what the addict does, that I am no longer a prisoner to their actions. Believe me, the addict sees a change in how you react and they change. This is not a quick fit which we are so despair for but learning for the family a healthy model to work toward for the family to survive and enjoy their lives and relationship with the family unit.

Love First
I was interested in preparing properly for an Intervention; this book was an excellent handbook for those interested in Intenvention. Very succinct!

Receipt of the book was very timely ~ like super fast! I am still reading it ~ as it is not a happy topic, I am struggling, so I can't say too much about the content.

Helped me write an intervention letter
This is a wonderful, simple book about how to help someone struggling with addiction. No psycho-babble, just straight-forward information on addiction, how to help and how to pick an appropriate treatment center. Highly recommended.

Perfect book that guides you through steps to help your loved one
The book, Love First, was the perfect guide for my family and me when we wanted to help our loved one, but did not know where to begin. Jeff Jay, in his book, Love FIrst, helped us to form and carry our an intervention with our loved one. His book is easy-to-read and is filled with love and lots examples of what to do and what not to do during an intervention. He is always positive and if the intervention does not work out as planned, he passes on the hope that it eventually will, as is what happened in our family. We recommend this book wholeheartedly for anyone who is looking for guidance on ways to help their loved one get help. The best part of it all is that he speaks from experience and he is determined to help others like he was once helped. This book was worth its weight in gold for my family and me and we are just so grateful that we had something to give us guidance when we set out to try and save our loved one.

One of The Worst Books I Have Listened To!!!
I am usually a Robin Cook fan but I have to say this has to be one of the worst books I have ever listen to. No mystery, no intrigue no NOTHING! If I could have thrown it out the car window without getting a ticket for littering I would have done it. I would tell anyone to run away from this book without hesitation because I don't know why I even finished it. I guess after 5 CDs I needed to see what the outcome was. Terribly disappointed and really feel ripped off by the author. I usually do a research here at Amazon to see what most people think but it was on sale at Costco and I went and bought it site unseen. Bad mistake on my part. I never really understood where the author was going with it, there were many possibilities to turn this into a good medical mystery but all he seem to do was bash medical alternatives. Doctors are far from perfect and they make many mistakes, I should know since I work in the medical field. I like a good story no matter if it makes sense or not but this one just fell flat on it's face and never got up!

Ridiculous and I'm a Robin Cook fan...
I usually LOVE to read Robin Cook novels. Yes, I know that the main character will make it through to the end. There is also bound to be some kind of medical conspiracy sort of thing going on...but this is hands down the worst of maybe any book I've ever read. It was like he was trying to get out his opinions of/frustrations --through Jack, concerning alternative medicine without it really being him. Then all of a sudden I'm sticking around for the ID of some old bones that one guy wants to exploit and another hide to "save the church"(it's way too late for that anyway). What the hell? WHAT THE HELL! Where is the Robin I remember from the last 11 books?! I kept reading through HOPING it would get better. Didn't happen. I am so disappointed in him. I'm reluctant to read -Cure-, but I'll look at the reviews. I think most writers have lemons. Hey, Robin Cook did.

If you want medical possibilities, here is a good one. sticks to the existing medical stage and then bends it to show the worst case? possibilities fasinationg and thought provoking

Intervention
As usual Robin Cook comes thru with another thought provoking novel. It was somewhat different from his other books but it made for great reading. I look forward to his next book.

Weak Endings
Robin Cook is generally a pretty safe author, in my opinion. He seemed to go off track with "Intervention", by chasing another best selling genre, and abandoning the medical base that he generally thrives on. The story lines never really meshed, as I had hoped. The book started off fairly strong, with several distinct tragedies in the making. All tragedies were averted at the end by killing off the inadvertent protagonist, and by the miraculous healing of the protagonist's son. Both of these solutions were entirely too abrupt, leaving you wondering if Cook had a page count quota, to uphold. Overall, this book has made me lose interest in Cook, and may be the last Cook book I read.

Just as I would never want to read a Grisham or Clancy book on medical tragedy, I'm not interested in Cook dabbling in Catholic Church conspiracy.

Great Read
If you like suspense novels, this is an amazing story that will continue to grip you till the end. Beautifully written.

Moving, suspenseful Novel
Intervention, by Terry Blackstock is a moving, suspenseful novel about a drug addicted teen and her single mom. Blackstock probes the mind of the mom and we see all of the questions any parent would ask about a child gone wrong. Where did I fail? What should I have done? How can I fix this?
There is an attempted intervention, a murder, a kidnapping and search for the missing child. There is even a potential love interest with the introduction of the local police detective assigned to the case.
Overall I enjoyed the story and the characters but I found the police a bit slow in catching on. If your detective skills are any good at all you will always be one chapter or more ahead of the cops.
For those of you who may have a prodigal child I recommend a book by Ruth Bell Graham, Prodigals and Those Who Love Them. Ruth is Billy Graham's wife.

Blackstock does it again
When Barbara Covington comes to the end of her rope in dealing with her teenage daughter she seeks the help of a Christian intervention program. The interventionist shows up and isn't anything like Mrs. Covington thought she'd meet. Still she lets the woman take her daughter and fly to a retreat where they can work on her drug problem. After arriving in Atlanta the interventionist calls Mrs. Covington to let her know that they've arrived safely and it will be only a short while before they arrive at the facility. She gets to talk to her daughter who says everything is fine. The next thing she hears is that the interventionist is found murdered and her daughter is being sought in connection with the murder. This sets Barbara out on a soul-wretching quest to find her daughter before the police. As I read this book and remembered all the other works of Terri Blackstock, as well as some personal emails, I was suddenly struck with the fact that Terri was writing out of her own personal knowledge. My heart broke. Indeed in a message to the reader at the end of Intervention we find that Terri went through several years dealing with a daughter who was addicted to drugs. This book will take you places where you may not want to go, but if you stay with it, you will find people finding their strength in Jesus Christ.

It should be noted that since Terri's Restoration Series her work has taken a decided turn. It's keener, taking on issues, some of them heart issues, and instead of offering some religious or political "bandaid" she gives you the guts of the issue, always showing that Jesus really can be trusted. It's when we lean upon Him that things start to fall into place. It's in Him that we find the freedom and deliverance that has so often escaped us. If you've never read a Terri Blackstock book before, this is a great place to start (or with Double Minds...you can find my review online here about that book as well) Everyone I know that has picked up one of Terri's novels has added her to their "favorite author" list, and there is a reason for that. Much of Terri's success comes from letting God do most of the writing. She just jots down what she's told to. I rate this a 5 star book, and anyone who knows me also knows that I don't just give any book a 5 star rating. Pulls you in!
This is an excellent book from Terri Blackstock. My only suggestion is that you start reading it at a time when you are not too busy. You won't want to put it down!

Don't Miss this One! Page-Turner...
Terri Blackstock's "Intervention" depicts real "fiction" that could (and does) happen to our next-door neighbor and, unfortunately, in our own families. This is the 1st book I've read by Ms. Blackstock, and it won't be my last!

I can vouch for the authenticity of this book, because a similar scenario happened in my own family. The characters portrayed are true to life showing their good, bad and ugly sides. I appreciate Terri Blackstock's courage to show that sticky situations demand tough love decisions. I appreciate the source of hope offered to the reader.

Growing up today is tough, and seems to be getting tougher. Our only salvation can be found in God--a strong Anchor, Hope, and our Deliverer!

Extremely helpful book
I have two alcoholics in my family and this book had much helpful information about how to be helpful to them. There is specific information about signs to look for in alcoholism, how the disease progresses and how family members are affected. It is brief and clearly written. There are also resources for additional support if you are going through this process.

Insightful and helpful
The book "Intervention" is excellent. In the first part of the book the progression of addiction is explained in detail, and how and why it is so diffucult for an addict to stop using. In addition it explains in detail the things that relatives and friends of addicts do to enable the addict, thus preventing him from reaching the decision to stop using.
In the second part it explains how the addict does not have to necessarily reach a 'bottom' before deciding to seek help, and how a loving intervention on the part of friends and family of an alcoholic can convince the addict to seek recovery. An intervention is like a mirror that is lovingly placed in front of the addict to help her see herself with the eyes of the loved ones and of the reality of her situation. The book explains how to do an intervention, either by yourselves or with the help of a professional interventionist. I love this book, and we are going to organize an intervention ourselves in behalf of my daughter. Here is another useful book on this subject:

Was hoping for better
I was looking for a book that would help with a family intervention for health issues. I found this book some what helpful; it did outline the mechanics of the process in the second half of the book. The first half was primarily about the psychology of a substance abuser.

A very interesting series of videos about addiction and many aspects of the science involved.

Chemical Dependency
I feel it is a pretty good tool to help educate my patients who are chemically dependent. My patients seem to learn from it. If you work in the drug addiction field this video can be very useful.

HBO Addiction DVD
This is a well researched and beautifully presented documentary produced by HBO on the disease of addiction. It is a great tool for the chemical dependency student as well as a great tool for chemical dependency counselors for use in their educational groups.

A Must See For Those Living With Addiction
I have a family member living with addiction/alcoholism for 3 years. I wish I would have seen this film when we first found out about the addiction problem. A fair amount of redundancy because this was originally a series, its still worth the inconvenience of fast-forwarding through several sections. I recommend it and I know residential rehab centers regularly incorporate this into treatment - my alcoholic/addict was exposed to it in rehab before the rest of the family saw it.

I was looking for material to educate my family who didn't belive addiction was a disease, this was very helpful...
When my dad finally addmitted his own addiction and recieved help at Hazelden in Center City MN, my siblings and I seeked more education on this disease that is addiction. We didn't realize it was a clinical addiction and struggled with the fact that he couldn't 'just' stop drinking. Going to the Family Program (a 4 day interactive program that Hazelden offers the family) and getting the education we needed to not only cope with situation from the past, but how to deal with the future and possible relapses. This video series follows all the ugly faces of addiction and helps you realize that all types of people can have addicition, and that the ear;ier treatment begins, just as with cancer, the more likely recovery is. This has been a tremendous help to us. We would recomend it to everyone. Most likely addiction and cross addiction are somewhere in everyone's lives. The more we learn about the grips of addicition the easier it is to live for today and see a brighter tomorrow!

Confusing product title
The title "World's Most Dangerous Drug" is certainly intriguing, but I was annoyed that neither the product description nor the product itself (packaging) explained which drug is the subject of this documentary. I don't appreciate being "teased" by National Geographic into buying their product just to find out. Thanks to the customer reviews here on Amazon, I learned that the subject of this documentary is methamphetamine. I had guessed from the title that this video was about alcohol and alcoholism. One could argue that alcohol causes more damage to people's lives, in sheer numbers and loss of life, than does meth. If anyone at Amazon is reading this review, please update the product description to clearly explain the topic of this documentary.

Great for non-Meth addicts
I am a substance abuse counselor and have shown this video to some of my clients. The individuals that are addicted to Meth reported triggers to use. The non-meth addicts thought it was a great video, lots of information and intertaining. If you are planing to show this to meth addicts please be prepaired to do some major processing after viewing. It is a great video.
