NOT THE FULL SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought i was ordering season 1....should of made it clear that it was not season 1 just 4 episodes...3rd time amazon has done this to me this

They left out alcoholism
Addiction and the horrific influence it has on the lives of addicts and their families is certainly portrayed in this 4 episode release. Its a sampling of the different forms of addiction; the stories in this DVD compilation show a wide range of addiction scenarios, but they don't show much about one of the most common addictions that wreck lives every day, that being straight up, widespread, easy to ignore, alcoholism. This isn't to say that alcoholism is more important or more common or more devastating than addictions to drugs, shopping or gambling.It does show how wide ranging addictive behavior can be. I bought this DVD as a way to introduce some members of my family to the concept of intervention and I feel they would have related to it better had there been an episode on alcoholism. Its good in the sense that it could be a primer for those who are just beginning to consider the concept of an intervention for a loved one, or for some who are finding the courage to seek and understand the raw and painful complexities of addiction. It does offer a measure of hope for healing,but also illustrates the hard work and sacrifice that is required of the addict and of those in relationship with the addict. This was a hard DVD for my loved ones to watch and because it didn't zero in on the issues we are facing as a family, I am not sure I will have another chance. However, the A and E Network does have available most of the individual episodes from all seasons. I feel a person would do better to research those and find one that resonates.

Do Not Buy This!!!
This DVD is only FOUR episodes from the first season. First I must say, I love the show... but I am so disappointed in this release. All the great drama, all the struggling and the good and bad of addiction are lost. This is a "money maker" release. I am sure that A&E will soon see the errors of their ways, and release the entire season.
There are Thirteen episodes in the first season. This release is a very sad attempt to show the episodes they (A&E) think are a successes... and a poor attempt to get your money. The episodes that are NOT on this DVD are the ones that truly help (us) "the addicts".
This review and my only true hope is that this excellent channel will soon get it right and release all the episodes, in a season, as was aired. There is so much more to this show than these... measly FOUR... episodes allow you to see. The true struggles, failures and success, are only briefly glimpsed in this release.
The show is great! So... I will wait!!! for A&E to come to their senses and release season one - in it's entirety! There is a reason you can buy this DVD used... the emotion is lost. FOUR out of 13 episodes. This is a sad day for people of addiction.

Exellent!
I teach addictions as part of my class on Mental Health Nursing. This product was well worth adding to my teaching materials. The bonus updates are great as well.

My suggestion
I have been watching Intervention since I was about 10 be warned this show is graphic and may be disturbing to some viewers. This is a show every one should have to watch going through peer pressure for abusing drugs and dealing with drug abuse I have never thought of using drugs after I had watched this show it may be graphic but it will show you the true horrors of drugs abuse

Too close to home...
This was the first episode I ever saw of intervention. My mom taped it for me to watch because she told me it was about a girl who cut herself. I wasn't sure what to expect, but seeing her story so raw, so real, so close to my own, just brought tears to my eyes. After watching it all I could say was, "I wish I had had an intervention". I still watch the show because it is real life and I know what it's like to struggle with addiction and mental illness day in and day out. I am not recovered, but I'm trying. Tamela's story made me want to get better. I hope she knows that she's touched many lives through this special episode. I wish her all the best because I know it is not an easy road.

No Art, No Science
That I expected more is a compliment to Dr. Cook's previous work, which has been entertaining. This book, however, is an unmitigated disaster: the plot is ludicrous, the main characters are uniformly unlikable, the dialogue is wooden, and the science is invalid. The plot lurches from a poorly researched diatribe against alternative medicine and chiropractic therapy in particular, which is dropped and unresolved, to a transparent, obvious, abrupt and unbelievable denouement that shows everyone to be deserving of participating in a bad ending. The poor science is tantamount to fuel to the fire for those many who have found relief in alternative medical treatment and who feel that some practitioners of conventional medicine have an irrational bias against any and all alternatives. The author's protagonist reads a single book to confirm his suspicions about the relation between chiropractic treatment and VAD, vertebral arterial dissection, and resulting vertebrobasilar artery stroke. An article in the journal Spine laid this issue to rest, in February, 2008, 18 months before this book was published, after looking at a patient population of over 100 million person-years. The study found that victims of this extremely rare condition typically experience headache and neck pain before stroke, and visit conventional medical doctors and chiropractors looking for relief, before the actual stroke. In fact the association of the visits to conventional medical practitioners before stroke is slightly stronger than the association of the visits to chiropractic practitioners.

Don't Ask,Don't Tell,Don't Read
This is a surprisingly low quality product by Robin Cook.
The two interwoven plots(really,there is no plot) follow
a medical examiner's investigations into alternative healing
consequences and a theological mystery masquerading
as a puerile Dan Brown story.
It's a non starter.We keep waiting for something to exciting
to develop and the greatest suspense is weather or not
the ceiling may cave in during an excavation.
I mean,give us a break.
It's hard to imagine that a publisher would accept this,
but then again it is Dr.Cook

I still don't know if I like it ...
Intervention features Forensic Pathologist Jack Stapleton, who has married his long-term love, Laurie. However, as this novel opens, Jack and Laurie are facing the possible death of their son, born with neuroblastoma. Sadly, they have withdrawn from friends and have not shared their son's problems or their own struggles, keeping it "secret."

In typical Robin Cook fashion, the book begins with Jack on a crusade against a killer of many - alternative medication - after he does an autopsy on a female in her 20's who was treated by an unscrupulous chiropractor, whose treatment led directly to her death. The facts and factors of multiple variations of alternative treatments are discussed and at the beginning of the book, you find yourself anticipating the "war" that has begun between Jack and the "nonmedical" profession.

However, the storyline turns quickly in a different direction, the ossuary found by one of his close college friends. At that point, the direction turns more in the direction of faith healing and the importance of religion in people's lives.

While the ending on behalf of Jack and Laurie can be anticipated from the beginning, the ossuary story is a different matter, and a-la-Dan Brown, you find the church hoping to cover up a potential embarrassment rather than rejoicing in an amazing find. The alternative medicine storyline disappears, and you do not see any form of resolution.

This book is very different than most of the Robin Cook's stories, and I suspect that any one of the three issues addressed in the book could have made a better story than the combination of the three.

Three stars - but I like the other books by Robin Cook much better.

Intervention Needs Divine Intervention to Get Through Reading It
As a dye-hard Cook fan, having read all of this medical thrillers, I can unequivocally state this is by far his worst work. Having read the first 112 pages, I was astonished to see a full 35 pages dedicated to chiropractic manipulation. Now, I'm an MD and stroke neurologist, and having interacted with many healthcare practitioners outside of allopaths, I know there is considerable controversy regarding the efficacy of CAMs (complementary and alternative medicines). However, to lump all of these healthcare individuals into one lump sum is unfair. Although MDs like their double-blind placebo-controlled studies, we all know of people who have suffered severe adverse effects to the medications used to treat their condition. I myself have lost track of all of the medication side effects treated with, you guess, other medications. Let's face it, Western-style medicine is all about money, with the AMA, FDA both eating out of big Pharma's hand. Look at how many scientific "studies" are done by MDs with pharmaceutical company backing. When you see the huge number of adverse effects produced by even common every day over-the-counter medications such as aspirin (bleeding, ulcers) and Tylenol (liver damage), and Ibuprofen (kidney damage), how can one really say these mainstream therapies are better?

Any way, I really resent Cook's proselytizing both because of the strong religious overtones and the crusade against chiropractic care. I don't need him to act as some kind of guardian angel sent to us to warn us of potential harm. I want a good novel, but not this one. Jeez, this novel was really two completely story-lines, neither of which was coherently connected in any way.

Next time Cook should keep his personal views on these subjects to himself. I also resent the plug for the books he lists in the biography and the over-the-top extremely stereotyped depiction of chiropractors. It's bad enough he keeps stereotyping Italians, but come on, enough is enough.

I know Cook has another novel coming out this summer. It will be my last if he continues this rubbish which he is passing as fiction. Shame on him and Putnam books for publishing this garbage.

I didn't think it was so bad!
I agree with the other reviewers that there are a lot of ridiculous things in this book, but it kept me entertained anyway. It's definitely not one of Robin Cook's best, but it continues the story of Jack and Laurie. I hope Cook will continue with these two characters, and hopefully give us more of a true medical thriller next time.

The main things that bothered me were that Jack would cover up the results of Shawn and Sana's work. That seemed very out of character for him. I would expect Jack to let the truth be told. And the Luke character seemed to be forced into the story at the last minute. Why was Jack so quick to let James off the hook for what happened? It sure seemed to me like he was partly to blame.

Extremely helpful book
I have two alcoholics in my family and this book had much helpful information about how to be helpful to them. There is specific information about signs to look for in alcoholism, how the disease progresses and how family members are affected. It is brief and clearly written. There are also resources for additional support if you are going through this process.

Insightful and helpful
The book "Intervention" is excellent. In the first part of the book the progression of addiction is explained in detail, and how and why it is so diffucult for an addict to stop using. In addition it explains in detail the things that relatives and friends of addicts do to enable the addict, thus preventing him from reaching the decision to stop using.
In the second part it explains how the addict does not have to necessarily reach a 'bottom' before deciding to seek help, and how a loving intervention on the part of friends and family of an alcoholic can convince the addict to seek recovery. An intervention is like a mirror that is lovingly placed in front of the addict to help her see herself with the eyes of the loved ones and of the reality of her situation. The book explains how to do an intervention, either by yourselves or with the help of a professional interventionist. I love this book, and we are going to organize an intervention ourselves in behalf of my daughter. Here is another useful book on this subject:

A must read for anyone who has someone in their life that has the disease of addiction. There is not a lot that can be done to stop someone on their destructive path but a well run and meaningful intervention can be very powerful. It can help them on the path to see reality and take the first step to recovery.

Was hoping for better
I was looking for a book that would help with a family intervention for health issues. I found this book some what helpful; it did outline the mechanics of the process in the second half of the book. The first half was primarily about the psychology of a substance abuser.

HBO Addiction DVD
This is a well researched and beautifully presented documentary produced by HBO on the disease of addiction. It is a great tool for the chemical dependency student as well as a great tool for chemical dependency counselors for use in their educational groups.

A Must See For Those Living With Addiction
I have a family member living with addiction/alcoholism for 3 years. I wish I would have seen this film when we first found out about the addiction problem. A fair amount of redundancy because this was originally a series, its still worth the inconvenience of fast-forwarding through several sections. I recommend it and I know residential rehab centers regularly incorporate this into treatment - my alcoholic/addict was exposed to it in rehab before the rest of the family saw it.

I was looking for material to educate my family who didn't belive addiction was a disease, this was very helpful...
When my dad finally addmitted his own addiction and recieved help at Hazelden in Center City MN, my siblings and I seeked more education on this disease that is addiction. We didn't realize it was a clinical addiction and struggled with the fact that he couldn't 'just' stop drinking. Going to the Family Program (a 4 day interactive program that Hazelden offers the family) and getting the education we needed to not only cope with situation from the past, but how to deal with the future and possible relapses. This video series follows all the ugly faces of addiction and helps you realize that all types of people can have addicition, and that the ear;ier treatment begins, just as with cancer, the more likely recovery is. This has been a tremendous help to us. We would recomend it to everyone. Most likely addiction and cross addiction are somewhere in everyone's lives. The more we learn about the grips of addicition the easier it is to live for today and see a brighter tomorrow!

Realistic, No B.S. Documentary
Many drug addiction documentaries do not present the problem in realistic, scientific, or humanistic terms. This one does all three in a truly convincing and affecting manner.

This is a great book. I love everything Terri Blackstock does. She keeps your interest to the very end. This book shows you how strong a mothers love can be. She would not quit until she found her daughter. This one of Blackstock's best.

A Surprise--Better Than I Expected
This is a book about a single mother's love for her children and the struggle to help her daughter, Emily, get off drugs. What begins as an intervention quickly turns into a nightmare involving murder and Emily's fight for survival. I found this book to be interesting, exciting and captivating. The author wrote from first-hand experience with her own daughter who had a drug problem. This is Christian fiction that shows the power of prayer and how God intervenes in our lives. I liked this book and think any parent would find it interesting and could relate to the mother who never gave up on her daughter.

Great book, not as good as her series books but really good.
Personally, I like her books that are written in series but this book really touched my heart. I really enjoyed reading it and it was really suspenseful. Good, easy read.

Well written, realistic, great characters
I think the author did an awesome job sharing through excellently written fiction the very real heartache of addiction and its effects. She writes from both the parent's and the teenager's point of view with equal poignancy. I found the Christian faith- and doubts- of the characters well integrated into the story and totally believable.

I'm not easy to please when it comes to fiction- but this book had me engaged. I would recommend it.

Another wonderful book by Terri Blackstock
Just when you think that Terri Blackstock couldn't possibly write anything better than her previous work, she out does herself. This is another wonderfully written book. I love how she always uses real life problems in her books. It makes you seem just like you're there living and breathing what you're reading. I picked it up one day and couldn't put it down til I had finished it that night!

Great for non-Meth addicts
I am a substance abuse counselor and have shown this video to some of my clients. The individuals that are addicted to Meth reported triggers to use. The non-meth addicts thought it was a great video, lots of information and intertaining. If you are planing to show this to meth addicts please be prepaired to do some major processing after viewing. It is a great video.

I use a variety of activities to present different topics to my middle school health class and found the National Geographic DVD, "World's Most Dangerous Drug" to be an extemely beneficial resource. My 8th grade students sat riveted and were pin-drop quiet as they soaked up the presentation.
It was my first use of a National Geographic DVD in my class and I look forward to discovering more videos.

the best documentary you'll find on meth addiction
I've been a counselor for 12 years, and I've seen many substance abuse educational videos. This one is the best I've seen concerning meth addiction. It is very factual, non-judgemental, and interesting. The documentary combines user interviews, with clinical and police interviews, making for a very balanced approach. Also, it uses graphics to show you what meth is doing inside a person's brain.

The Worst Drug
This movie is so graphic as to be disturbing, but at the same time, it is a realistic view of the drug, crystal meth, and the damage if inflicts on users who become addicted quickly, and who struggle to give up this drug.

I was interested in preparing properly for an Intervention; this book was an excellent handbook for those interested in Intenvention. Very succinct!

This is a wonderful, simple book about how to help someone struggling with addiction. No psycho-babble, just straight-forward information on addiction, how to help and how to pick an appropriate treatment center. Highly recommended.

Perfect book that guides you through steps to help your loved one
The book, Love First, was the perfect guide for my family and me when we wanted to help our loved one, but did not know where to begin. Jeff Jay, in his book, Love FIrst, helped us to form and carry our an intervention with our loved one. His book is easy-to-read and is filled with love and lots examples of what to do and what not to do during an intervention. He is always positive and if the intervention does not work out as planned, he passes on the hope that it eventually will, as is what happened in our family. We recommend this book wholeheartedly for anyone who is looking for guidance on ways to help their loved one get help. The best part of it all is that he speaks from experience and he is determined to help others like he was once helped. This book was worth its weight in gold for my family and me and we are just so grateful that we had something to give us guidance when we set out to try and save our loved one.
A Tremendously Thankful Customer

Love First
I was surprised to learn things about drug and alcohol addiction that I was unaware of. One important thing is that this is a disease that is something passed down from generation to generation. It isn't a result of depression or anxiety but it is the primary problem and should be addressed as such during recovery. Many people are ashamed to admit they have an issue because our society gives us the false impression that they lack discipline or they have no self control.
Another thing is you can determine if a person has an addiction based on certain signs such as is their drug or alcohol problem hurting the family in any way?..
The book teaches people to approach the addict in a loving way and how to do an intervention. It is an easy book to read and I would recommend it.
