Attractive iPod case
This is a nice case for the money- I dropped my iPod and it broke, but my iPod didn't. It's cute and it keeps my toddler from scratching the aluminum back up.

Touch Of Entertainment
There is no question that when it has came down to MP3 Players, many people have definitely came over to Apple's Ipod over time, as the most popular player on the market. Nearly a decade since the original Ipod made its debut, many music lovers have looked to it into their hearts , and made it the template of the way we now enjoy our music on the go. But with the Ipod Touch debuting a few years ago, it really has added the touch of your fingers as the controls. While it has been a few years since the Ipod debuted, it has delivered not just to music lovers, but gamers and the way we surf the internet wherever we roam. Now, how it can it be topped, it can't. But there can be a few adjustments though.

The Apple Ipod Touch 3rd Generation is simple, convient and easy to use, as you can not just store all your favorite music and videos, but download any game to your delight from Apple's Itunes store. There are many games you can download from pinball to racing games like Need For Speed: Undercover to puzzle games like Bejeweled 2. There is more here that you can definitely do with the Ipod Touch in 8 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB. But, this review is for the 32 GB. It can definitely hold a whole lot in the simple Ipod. While there is so much you can do from surf the internet through your favorite Wi-Fi spot and play songs you've downloaded from your favorite music service, there are a few faults. The first disadvantage is that the battery life can easily lose its steam after only a few hours, especially when you've downloaded so many games to play. It isn't just that alone, but it also takes awhile to re-charge itself up unlike other MP3 Players on the market. It can be very discouraging, especially when you just want to take it out, after you've filled it with your favorite media. Not only that, but it is very sensative to control, and takes a little bit to get used to when you've first bought it. Nevertheless, after a couple of days, you'll be in the best of control.

All in all, despite a few things that could've been improved, the Apple Ipod Touch is still a great MP3 Player, and media device to take with you anywhere. It is the closest to bringing your computer with you anywhere your heart desires. I really like it a lot, and it definitely is a great buy for anyone whom wants the best idea Apple has came up with since the original Mac.

Well worth the money, despite it's very few flaws
First off I'll say that I have the 8GB version of this, so this review is entirely in regards to that fact.
The fit and function of the iPod is fantastic. It's sleek, good looking, very easy to use and even though it weighs next to nothing it is very tough and feels like it was built like a tank.
The web browser (Safari) is very reliable and fast, and the wireless works great. The range is a bit shorter than say my laptop, but it works far enough away. The apps you can download are plentiful and very easy to manage. The only bad thing about them is I wish a lot more of them were free. Once you download a half dozen .99 cent apps or so, the charges can start to pile up a lot.
My only problems with it are as follows:

The low-end model should've been 10GB, rather than only 8... which in reality translates to between 6 and 7 after the iPhone OS is installed (by default, of course).

Some extra customization features would've been good. Such as being able to put separate passlock codes for music, pictures, videos, etc. But that's neither here nor there - to each his own.

Lastly, the internal speaker isn't anything to get excited about. It's very quiet and sounds somewhat muffled. The EQ is the standard, plain-jane "Rock", "R&B", etc. job. There is no definitive frequency range adjustment to speak of. However, I suppose you can't expect that sort of feature on a mp3 player. I'm an audiophile though, so I'm picky in that respect.

Other than those minor issues, I really enjoy the iPod. The performance and reliability is top-notch and there are seemingly endless options and unique "tweeks" to tinker around with on it. It's basically a handheld computer and I've hardly used my home PC to browse the web at all since I got my iPod. You can even get apps to text message for free! Also, if you get the microphone for it you could use it as a phone as well. But with that said, the online features will obviously only work when you are connected to a WiFi network... unlike a mobile phone. But for a mp3 player to do all that this does, is simply awesome.
I'm very glad I bought it and would recommend it to anyone. As the title of my review states... it's well worth the money!
iPod touch 8 GB
Bought one each for my 8 yr old and 10 yr olds this summer. Good to fill up some times of boredom. Now that school is in, they still play on it, but not to the exclusion of school work.

It's a nice product.
great
My new Ipod is great. Shipping was fast and I got it on time. I just need more time to learn to use all the features.
I bought it for my daughter. I did not know it does not come with battery re-charger, which you have to buy separately.
The product is very good, just did not come with battery re-charger, which you have to buy separately. You would not know it until you opened box.

Essential Purchase For iPhone/iPod/iPad Developers
Buy It.

Wait, I didn't explain, so sorry.

There's no doubt that the iPhone/iPod/iPad Developers medium for development has been the hottest in quite some time, and this writer feels that this is just the tip of the iceberg, and not any kind of fad. Making great apps for the user that touches as opposed to moving a mouse is a different science, a different kind of beast. The thing that makes this so important, is that we as humans find that touching is more the 'right' way to do things, it just feels 'right' and is easier for nearly anyone. If you want to get the most of getting around the interface, creating icons, layouts, anything that relates to this type of development, you MUST buy this book. Not only will it turn you into a better developer for this platform, you will enjoy the writing and overall feel in FULL COLOR.

It's great, now go get it and enjoy the quality yumness of this book!!

***** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
A must for mobile app developers
I've been designing user interfaces for 25 years and iPhone apps for two years. I picked up "Tapworthy" hoping to find something useful, but not expecting too much. I was so wrong: Josh Clark nails it. This is currently the best book on mobile app development. Everybody designing iPhone apps (except my competitors) should read it.
Brilliant book
Brilliant book, really enjoyed it, and it gave me loads of ideas of how to make my app better - a lot of them little things I hadn't thought about (eg all list items are 44 pixels high. ALL OF THEM).

I'd say this is a fairly non-technical book. I dont remember a line of obj-c in it, but there is plenty of info for anyone who is doing any part of an iphone app - ideas, design, coding, art, whatever.

Highly recommended.
Covers a lot of concepts.
Pre-ordered this book after hearing Josh speak at SXSW. Well worth the wait. This book covers all of the basics of iPhone UI but *even more important* are the first person interviews with guys like Josh Williams (Gowalla CEO) and Joe Hewitt (Facebook app).
If you're a startup, get this book. Now.
Here's why: it's not only a great guide to what makes iPhone apps successful, but what will increasingly be the way to make successful software for any platform. Josh does a fantastic job of getting the reader into the right mindset for creating successful apps.

This is an interface, big-idea, that's why that design works book, not a coding book. Nor is it a "how to market your iPhone app book". That said, the interviews alone with designers of big important iPhone apps about how they really designed those apps is worth the price many times over.

Warning: you will probably spend more on buying apps Josh uses as examples of what he is talking about than you will on the book itself - I guess the skills he developed writing his last book, "Best Iphone Apps: The Guide for Discriminating Downloaders", gave him five star ability for picking great to awesome apps.

Also, while I almost never buy anymore actual paper books, this one is worth it - the color, gloss stock, painstaking layout and content structure would not be done justice as a .pdf.

I could write a longer review, but I'd rather go back to reading, re-reading, mulling and thinking about the what Josh covered in this book. Can't wait for the iPad book!

Humorously Helping You Navigate Through an Ever-Growing Maze of iPhone Apps
There is irony that a printed book is one of the better ways to explore the possibility of the iPhone, but Josh Clark's eminently readable tome is a terrific resource on what he considers the best programs to download across a variety of categories. Apps are popping up at such a prolific rate that the selections can become overwhelming when rifling through the Apps Store. That's what makes this book so valuable since the author breaks down his choices over seven broad if not mutually exclusive lifestyle topics - At Work, On the Town, At Leisure, At Play, At Home, On the Road, and For Your Health. Graphically, it's pleasing as well with each topic color-coded and vibrant screen captures provided to give the reader an idea of the capabilities associated with each program. Clearly, Clark cannot keep up with the number of apps popping up, but he has done as thorough job as possible given the over 50,000 programs available currently through the Apps Store.

He is concise in his summaries and still shows off a sharp sense of humor, for example, "Park n' Find" ($1.99) helps you find your car in a vast lot, and "SitOrSquat" (Free) pinpoints the closest public restroom, which includes a blog of toilet humor for extensive bathroom reading if necessary. The breadth is pretty startling from tracking airline flights ("FlightTrack Pro", $4.99) to reporting Elvis sightings ("Elvis Mobile", Free). There's a great music section, Rockin' Out, that includes the best apps for naming that tune ("Shazam", Free), sharing music ("Simplify Music", $5.99), or robot crooners ("Bebot", $1.99) where an animated robot sings whatever ditty you compose on the spot. The offbeat selections are combined with more predictable ones such as "Facebook" (Free) for (unsurprisingly) Facebook, "Yelp" (Free) for local recommendations, and "Stanza" (Free) for reading books (with "Kindle for iPhone" receiving honorable mention). Some of Clark's choices are arguable, of course, but it's hard to beat the easy readability and genuine usefulness of his small, 228-page book.
Here ya go, iPhone Admirers....
With the number of iPhone apps approaching 100,000, this title may show you some things about what's out there for you iPhone nuts. And, give you ways to find new ones when they surface. This selection gives you ways on over 200 ah-ha apps that can benefit you and yours......

Another winner from Safari/O'Reilly
An excellent place to start for new iPhone owners.
When a box of O'Reilly books descended upon my desk, the book that caught my eye because of it's full color contents and beautiful cover was "Best iPhone Apps" by Josh Clark. From the front cover alone, I recognized about half of the apps that were going to be reviewed. I have to admit, I am iPhone app junky. I have pages upon pages of apps installed on my first generation iPhone, and am always reading the internet for reviews and suggestions for more and more apps to try.

Truthfully, I didn't think that a book on iPhone apps was such a great idea. Apps come and go at a rather quick rate on the iTunes store. What's in today could be out tomorrow. But with all things, those of substance have a way of sticking around. I am online enough that I get my recommendations for apps so I didn't think that a book would help me much.

Then I loaned the book for the weekend to a new iPhone user. A coworker had just gotten his government issued iPhone a week before, and he was looking for suggestions on apps to try out. After going through the book, he came back to work on Monday having filled out five pages on his iPhone with new apps as suggested in this book. He couldn't say enough nice things about being able to sit on the couch, flip through the book, then go to the app store on his iPhone and download app after app.

The book is organized by into seven major categories of apps. Each of those categories is further subdivided the best 8 or 9 apps in that category. Each app gets a full-page description including screen captures, summary, pricing and app developer contact information. For most of the best of apps, the picks are apps that I currently already use, so it would seem that I agree with Mr. Clark's best of selection process.

I would recommend this book to someone new to the iPhone and someone who would rather flip through a book than scour the various iPhone app review sites on the internet to get started on their iPhone app collection.
Suzie Housley, Midwest Book Review
With the invention of the iPhone a new era in the technology world emerged. An iPhone is not a simple device that allows a person to make a call. Instead, this invention enables a user to discover new and exciting applications that can help simplify their life.

With over a thousand applications to choose from, a new user can quickly become overwhelmed at what to select to download for their phone. With Josh Clark's Best iPhone Apps: The Guide for Discriminating Downloaders he has conducted in-depth research that was needed to reveal the best applications that Apple has to offer.

The book is broken down into seven different categories that include:

-At Work

-On the Town

-At Leisure

-At Play

-At Home

-On the Road

-For Your Health

Each section highlights the best iPhone applications that relate to the topic. What I found impressive was each application listed the price and a short summary of its strengths. This book explored both free and paid applications. It allowed the reader to compare what they would receive from a paid to a free application.

Being a new owner of an iPhone, I was so impressed with this book. It offered me the knowledge I needed to get the most out of my phone. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is new to the iPhone or iPod Touch. The wealth of information contained in this one book is invaluable.
Great as an idea book...
for aspiring IPhone app writers. This was what I bought this book for and this is the way in which I use it. Thus, you may or may not be frustrated with it if you are looking for good apps to use, but I thought it was truly excellent as a means of prodding my imagination as a programmer, to see what is already out there, and to see how apps might be combined or improved upon. One reviewer said this book does not have an index, and I'm not sure what he/she is talking about, because it does have an index of sorts. The index consists of an alphabetical listing of IPhone apps, and from their names it is pretty easy to tell what most of them do. I can then turn to the page for that app, get an idea of what the interface looks like, and see if maybe a new app can be written that builds upon its capabilities or maybe it gives me inspiration for something completely new and different.

As far as books that give you "the best IPhone apps", I'm not sure why a user would buy such a book and expect the latest information. You're only going to find that with an online search. It rather reminds me of those "Internet Phone Books" that used to be published regularly back in the early web era of the mid 1990's. They were usually outdated as soon as they were published.

Thus, if you are a developer looking for ideas and user interface examples, I think it's great. If you're looking for a timely book for good apps in such a fast-paced environment as the IPhone, I don't think it is possible to write and publish such a book in a conventional fashion.

Xhps300

Great addition to the touch!!
Use it for turn-by-turn and for golf with Airview.
It never runs out of power. Used it for over 9 rounds no problems.
I do need some kind of anti-glare shield because of the sun.
Anyone know what works?
I would wait.
Okay Update: August 12 2010

After I sent them two emails, I got a reply back that wasn't very helpful in my mind. Nothing about the coating peeling was said, but they did want to offer me a $50 gift card on the tunes store of which I don't think I will take. As if you try and remove Navatlas I am given a pop up saying that

" Application Not Installed
This accessory requires an application
you do not have installed.
Would you like to install it from the App store? "

So in my mind what's the point of having a app that does not work and if removed will always give me a pop up, this is using ISO 4.0.

Honestly the company has some real problems with the app and gps cradle, even so that apple have removed there unit from the store page. If you want a GPS device for your touch, I would wait for them the gather there collective brains and fix there issues or buy another brand as I have wasted $200.

Things that have gone wrong for me.

Coating peeling from unit.
12v cigarette adapter giving of interference to stereo receiver.

Support Issues (among other problems)
Update 7/22: Dual promptly arranged for a credit to iTunes for me to get Navigon. I hope the replacement for my unit goes as smoothly.

Update 7/20: Dual has since put a phone number on their support page and I am working with them to correct my issues. Once I see how it goes my review will change. They have indicated that they will replace my unit as well as the car mount.

Two weeks ago, apple upgraded iPod touches to iOS 4.0 and the free maps that come with the XGPS300 no longer work. I've also had an issue with the finish on the cradle chipping. Plus, the car mount is of poor quality and let's out a high pitched whine when no audio is being played by my iPod. I've sent a second support request to address the poor quality of the cradle and car mount as well as addressing the fact that NavAtlas no longer works with my touch since I upgraded to iOS 4. The first reply only addressed the iOS 4 problem. Even then they just said they are working on it. If I don't get a reply to my satisfaction I will then file a complaint to the FTC.
Works as Adversited
Have had XGPS300 for a few months now, using Navigon instead of Dual's map app. Quality of case may be issue, film peeling off back of unit, for $200 would expect better. GPS picks up sats quickly with wifi disabled, if wifi on, map apps will rarely connect with unit. After driving around with unit for a few months, I miss the traffic capability I've had on other GPS units. Traffic is a big downside for me and at this price point I'd consider looking for a unit with it built in. I'd give Navigon 5 stars, but the XGPS300 due to cost and lack of traffic only 3 stars.

Develop your ideas from initial concept to finished design Build an effortless user experience that rewards every tap Explore the secrets of designing for touch Discover how and why people really use iPhone apps Learn to use iPhone controls the Apple way Create your own personality-packed visuals Ten Tips for Crafting Your App’s Visual Identity Choose a personality. Don’t let your app’s personality emerge by accident. Before you start designing, choose a personality for your app. The right personality for the right audience and features makes an app irresistible and creates a bonafide emotional connection. Tapworthy designs have the power to charm and beguile. Voices (left) has a Vaudeville personality appropriate to a funny-voices novelty app. iShots Irish Edition (right) creates a gritty dive-bar ambience for its collection of drink recipes. Favor standard controls. Because they’re commonplace, the standard set of controls is sometimes dismissed as visually dull. Not so fast: commonplace means familiarity and ease for your audience. Conventions are critical to instant and effortless communication. Before creating a brand new interface metaphor or inventing your own custom controls, ask whether it might be done better with the built-in gadgetry. A coat of paint. Standard controls don’t have to be dreary. Use custom colors and graphics to give them a fresh identity. This technique requires a light touch, however; don’t distract from the content itself or drain the meaning from otherwise familiar controls. Wine Steward uses standard lists (known as table views in iOS) but creates a vintage ambience by draping a backdrop image across the screen. The app adds a parchment graphic to the background of each table cell, making each entry appear to be written on an aged wine label. The burgundy-tinted navigation bar maintains the app’s wine flavor. • You stay classy. Luxurious textures applied with taste increase your app’s perceived value. • Keep it real. Realistic lighting effects and colors create elements that invite touch and create an emotional attachment. They also provide subtle guidance about what your audience can interact with. • Borrow interface metaphors from the physical world. Lean on users’ real- world experience to create intuitive experiences. People will try anything on a touchscreen, for example, that they’d logically try on a physical object or with a mouse-driven cursor. Besides these practical benefits, using an everyday object as an interface metaphor imbues an app with the same associations that folks might have with the real McCoy--a shelf of books, a retro alarm clock, a much-used chessboard, a toy robot. • Don’t be afraid to take risks. Make sure your interfaces are intuitive, sure, but don’t be afraid to try something completely new and different. Designers and developers are hatching fresh iPhone magic every day, and there’s still much to explore and invent. While you should look hard at whether you might accomplish what you need to do with standard controls, it’s also worth asking, Am I going far enough? The app icon is your business card. The icon carries disproportionate weight in the marketing of your app, and it’s important to give it disproportionate design attention, too. Be descriptive more than artistic. Make your app icon a literal description of your app’s function, interface, name, or brand. Use a dull launch image. Disguise your app’s launch image as the app background for a faster perceived launch. Always cultivate the illusion of suspended animation when switching in and out of your app. Be kind to new users. Provide simple welcome-mat pointers for first-timers. Beware of more complex help screens; they’re warning signs of an overcomplicated interface.
