Ipod Classic
I really love gadgets and music so what a great culmination of the two. I knew I needed something with more capacity and that it would be nice to have almost all my music available when I wanted it. I bought the previous version but never got it to work as well as it should have and I had given up. The new version is much easier to use. I'll probably fill it up, but I'll have a lot of fun doing it! Until about a year ago, I thought "What's so hard about changing a CD? Why would you need to carry around a bunch of music? 160 GBs? Who could ever use that much space." Then I bought a great case for it, figuring I would protect my investment.
Replace often
Beware apple's classic 160g iPods. They are very unreliable and you will end up replacing it every year or two. I have had 3 of them and they all just stop working at some point and I don't abuse them or leave them in a hot Texas car. They just are not well built.
Dont buy these iPods
Ive had iPods since they first came out,and I have never had as many problems as this model.I have bought and returned two of these and am now swearing off apple products forever. Will not sync with i-tunes,freezes up constantly, had to reboot the thing every 10 minutes after it froze during syncing and locked up my computer. The software is completely haywire on these models.I was beginning to wonder if I had somehow received two defective models in a row,so I began researching this problem on the internet and found this problem is very common.I even downloaded Winamp and tried to use that instead of I-Tunes,but this piece of crap locked up this program and wouldn't sync to it either. They do make nice paper weights though.
Ipod Basics
When it comes down to finding the right kind of MP3 Player, most of us want something simple, and not to the extreme. Since Apple came out with the original Ipod nearly 9 years ago, it has became the epiphany and template of what strong MP3 Players have became. Yet, there have been so many companies that've taken the time to recognize why the Ipod has became so important to changing the game of the way we get our music. We now get our music on the internet, and not through a basic record store. Thank to Apple, it has been the dominant reason people want a Ipod over any other MP3 Player in the market. But with all the Ipod owners choosing to swap for the Ipod Touch, many are still choosing to go for the classic instead.
The Apple 160 GB Ipod Classic is one of the most convient and classic MP3 Players on the market, where you can store thousands and thousands of hours of all your favorite music to your hearts' content. It is simple, convient and easier to recognize now. You can store all of your favorite music you get from Itunes, as well as store your favorite videos now, and it can play anything with just a flick of the thumb. It is simple to use, as you see your favorite photos, to play games like classic solitare. While all the features work like a glove, there are a few disadvantages with the Ipod Classic. The main disadvantage is how long it simply takes to charge the battery of the Ipod to its optimum level. It could take as long as 4 hours just for it to fully charge when you plug it in the computer. While that can be the biggest drawn out drag, it really handles very well from its control, to the ability to playback all your favorite videos, and TV Shows from your favoorite networks, that you can download through Itunes.
All in all, with a convient price, and simple playback, I really recommend the Apple 160 GB Ipod Classic. It really is a treat for the music lover in all of us, and as time had went on, everyone owns what Apple had made as a giant in the electronics' business. If you want all the simplicity of your music and video, without all the hastle of price, than this is what you should get. While there are cheaper MP3 Players on the market, but with all the songs and convience of your music library in the storage and in just one place all over time it just feels like the best direction to go.

Docking system needs to be improved
We bought the unit after researching all the reviews. It is very portable. However, we are not happy about how the docking system works. The docking system does not have a secure feature like the charger/USB cable for ipod. As a result, the itouch can be put on in an awkward position that the unit simply does not broadcast anything! The music we hear is from the itouch, not the unit! I consider myself a very careful person. I am not sure how often other people can get the ipod on the system correctly. We keep on wondering if this will eventually damage the ipod. The sound system is OK. It indeed can get loud without the sound being distorted but as far as bass, it is not impressive at all. Two weeks after we use it, when we put the itouch on, the music started to play for 10 seconds and stop, once we hit the go button on the itouch, it will start to play again for about 5 mins, then it will stop by itself. We have to hit the go button again on the itouch. Then, the music can go without any stop. We experienced it every time we put the itouch on to play. We did some experiment and finally concluded that it was the problem of altech lansing rather than the itouch. We called the company and was told to reset the unit. It seems to solve the problem. However, the problem does return from time to time. I'm wondering if the bose unit will have similar issues being $200 more expensive.
Does not shut down Pandora with the iphone 4!!
I actually bought a couple of these things to live with for a few days. Logitech has a new speaker dock out that sounds great. Better sound, but $50 more and I had to take the case off my iphone to get it to work. That was a deal breaker as the case is a pain to take off. Also the sound is not worth $50 more over the Altec Lansing. I have played Pandora for hours and not had it cut off at all. That would have had it going back in the box for sure. I love the portability and size of the Altec, I have taken it back and forth to work with ease. The remote is confusing to me, maybe I should read the directions... The Logitech came with a case which is nice, but I'll get a nifty little case for this and then it will be perfect. For $100--good value!
Aux issue
The size and weight of the unit make it handy and mobile.
When used in the auxuliary mode, the unit sporadically shuts down. Sometimes it plays well, sometimes I have to power up several times within five minutes. It happens with various aux components: different mp3's and the computer.
My 4th generation Ipod also freezes up sometimes when I insert it. I'm not sure if that's the unit or Ipod.
Brian's Altec
I like the lightness and ease of portability. This is a very easy way to keep ipod charged. The sound quality is adequate, not great, but it's very good for a ipod dock withoput spending over $200.
The Auto-Shutoff is a MAJOR diappointment.
Two of my favorite apps on my iPhone 3GS are Pandora and iHeartRadio. Now that these apps are able to run in the background, allowing me to do other things on the iPhone while listening, I use my iPhone to listen to music and talk radio a lot more. So, I started looking for a portable docking system for my iPhone. I like to listen while I am working in the garage or outside.
I found the Altec Lansing iMT620 at a retail store. It looked like exactly what I needed, so I bought it.
After I charged it up, I was really looking forward to docking my iPhone and listening to Pandora while doing some work around the house. Imagine my surprise when the music stopped, and I figured out that the Altec was cutting out after a couple of minutes!
Turns out that, when you dock an iPhone, the Altec thinks you have paused an "iPod". When the pause hits the limit, it cuts out.
The workaround is getting the proper cord (iPhone plug on one end, aux input plug on the other) and using the Aux input port on the back to connect the iPhone. Thus, the docking port is useless, unless you want to listen to the iPod app on the iPhone.
I am inclined to keep the Altec, even though I just bought it yesterday, and I could return it.
I figure it is as good as any other portable boom box with an Aux input port.
I'll give it 2 stars.
It would get 5 stars if it were really compatible with the iPhone, as it advertises.

Kenwood Review
I purchased this unit for a 1995 Nissan Sentra and could not be more happy. I keep the Sentra around because I drive a lot and it gets great gas mileage. This unit allows me to use my iPhone and worked seamless after install. The unit was easy to install and was no hassle to set up and use. I recommend this to any one for a low end unit. Thanks Kenwood, you have made my driving experience much more pleasurable.
Kenwood Stereo Kdc-mp345U
The stereo looks great in my car. It sounds fantastic and I found it easy to use.
Chose this over a lot of others
I did a lot of research when looking for a receiver to replace my factory unit in my 2000 Miata. I wanted to be able to play my iPod video and use a USB thumbdrive without getting into a lot glitz. For the money this Kenwood is a solid buy.
Pros:
-I love the power this puts out. The clarity of the music that I get even with the top down is fantastic.
-The controls are fairly intuitive and I like that it has hard buttons which are easy to find and use while driving. There is a small learning curve as far as customizing your settings, but it's fairly straightforward. The main rotary knob has a solid feel to it and is easy to adjust while driving.
-The display is simple without a lot of dancing lights and so on.
-Hooks up easily with my iPod, scrolls through all the normal iPod settings: Genre, artist, albums, etc with ease.
-The Ipod also charges when hooked into the USB port.
-The USB port has a cover which feels solid when moving it.
-Don't know how much I'll use the remote, but it is nicely designed and feels well made.
Cons:
-Sunlight seriously wipes out the display screen, making it difficult to read without straining your eyes.
-The unit activates my power antenna whenever it's turned out, even if the radio isn't engaged. I don't love having the antenna constantly up.
For the price, I'm well pleased with this Kenwood. I looked around, and couldn't find a receiver that would solve all my wants in this price range. The Kenwood seems like it's well made, it handles lots of formats and is easy to use. All in all a good receiver.
Couldnt have expected less from kenwood
I made a purchase from Nigeria on 20th July, got it delivered at a friend's place in Maryland third day.
Installation was quite easy, navigation is wonderful, works as designed. The only negative side is that when a thumb drive hangs on and you decide to listen to the tuner/CD, if you switch off engine and restart, the unit defaults back to USB even though you were not on USB mode. This is strange, hope Kenwood would do something about this. Notwithstanding, it's the best you can get for that price anywhere.
Perfect for use with iPhone or iPod
Purchased this for my husband to use in his 2003 Toyota Corolla. He has an iPhone, and this unit is advertised as working well with iPods or iPhones. It works great!
USB INPUT
You use the standard iPod cable that goes from the bottom, wide, data plug at the bottom of the iPod, and has USB at the other end (same cable you connect to your computer with). The Kenwood unit received the USB end.
CONTROLLING THE IPOD
Depending on the order you plug things in (if you are already playing music on the iPod, or not), you can use the iPod or iPhone to control your music selections (using click wheel, etc) OR you can use the Kenwood unit to control your music selections. My husband likes controlling the iPod by using the Kenwood unit. I prefer to control the iPod itself, since I'm familiar with its navigation. You can control the iPod even while it's plugged into the unit (unlike the Sony unit I have in my car, which once it's plugged in, you can't control the iPod without unplugging it - irritating).
CHARGES IPOD
Since you're using the data/charging port, it charges your iPod while you're driving, so you don't have to worry about draining your battery on a long road trip.
AUX INPUT
There is also an auxiliary input, if someone wants to play music in your car, but has a different mp3 unit. The aux plug-in receives a cable connected to the mp3 player's headphone jack. This of course, will not charge the player's battery, and will not give you data (song titles, etc.) on the Kenwood screen. So this is why the USB port is so great if you're buying this for primary iPod or iPhone use.
INSTALLATION
We did not purchase any special "kits" for installing this unit. My husband is relatively technical, and he had no problem installing this in his 2003 Corolla, using only the pieces in the box (well, some tools like screwdriver, and saudering iron to connect wires were also necessary). It took him a couple hours. I saw that some other people had purchased harness wires or install kits along with this unit, but that wasn't necessary for us.
And also, this is an amazingly low price for any car stereo, not to mention one that works this great with iPods!!!

A technophobe get an iPod
Until earlier this year I had never owned a computer, let alone an iPod. So. I got an iPhone, an iPod and a MacBook. In that order. If i could figure it out with NO HELP, anyone can.
Died 1 yr and 2 weeks after I got it...
Died 1 yr and 2 weeks after I got it... ITUNES is clunky and all the content is Apple proprietary. The unit functioned ok when it worked, but dying just after the 1 yr is pretty bad for what you are paying. I really don't like how everything from ITUNES is Apple m4v for videos (can't convert to MP4) and you have to convert music to MP3. Video is especially a problem since I have purchased the TV Show or Movie but Apple won't let me play it on any other player of which I have many. Many people don't realize unless or until they want to use some other player than an IPOD that they will have to convert the music and won't be able to play the video. Like I said the unit functioned ok (nothing special) when it worked. It was expensive compared to other non Apple products, but I gave it a shot and probably wouldn't purchase another IPOD again. I've had IPODs, Sansa's, Zen's, and a Zune. The Sansa and the Zen were great for basic MP3 playback, but I bought the first generation Zune 30 gig and that thing still works perfectly for Music and Video
Audiophile Seeks Music Vault
I bought this item (Apple 120GB iPod) a little over a year ago. Shortly after, I got an iPhone (3Gs - 8GB). My plan was to make my 120GB iPod a miniature vault to carry around the 600+ CD's I've accumulated, plus a few photos and videos. The added games were a nice feature, too (though, iPhone/iPod Touch has far better ones).
The battery life was phenomenal. I could go days without charging.
Sound quality was good. I used it mostly in my car or when traveling, so the sound was typically limited to my headphones/speakers.
It was tough to watch movies or play games, as the screen size was relatively small (I do have an iPhone, mind you) and the wheel was kind of touchy for any games.
I also got accessories to make this thing a tank. I wanted it to survive an apocalypse, so I'd still have my whole collection of music wherever I go. I also have at least 3 backups of my music collection (what can I say, I'm an audiophile!). This is where it failed, however. I recently had this in my back pocket and was listening to music on headphones while doing yardwork, and managed to catch the headphone cable on my elbow and send the sucker spiraling out towards a slab of concrete.
I thought I was lucky, and my accessories had paid off. It worked for roughly another day and a half. Then, it abruptly stopped, and gave me the red "X". [...]
After trying multiple times to get it to go to disk mode & recover...well...it flatlined. Since I'm over a year out (by 4 months), my warranty seems to have expired. So I'd recommend the warranty, first off. Hindsight is 20/20, right?
The nearest Apple store is a ways away, so I opted to have it sent in for repair/service. It was ~$160 upfront just to send it in for repairs. For a measly $60 more, I can just get the *NEWEST* generation @ 160GB.
Like I said, I have the iPod backed up on at least 3 different hard drives (computer & external HD's), so I'm not upset about the loss of music/etc. It just seems like this is a disposable unit, at a ~$200 annual fee.
I'm going to try stopping by an Apple store next time I'm near one, but otherwise, I'll just wait a few years and see if something better comes along (which, I'm guessing will cost roughly ~$220.00 for the "next best thing").
I don't see the sense in spending $160.00 to fix an old unit, nor buying a new unit at $220 (the cost of a 7th Gen right now...which was the cost of my 6th Gen a year ago).
I just hope Apple stops painting themselves into a corner (I mean really, my AT&T coverage leaves a bit to be desired, and their "trade secret" approach to all things Apple leaves a gaping hole for Google, et al, to fill). I'm now on the hunt for a massive storage & portable MP3 player that will survive ad eternum...or at least 3-4 years.
Oh, and my many efforts with Windows based MP3 players have been no better - Apple has that cornered on behalf of software & compatibility. At least with iTunes, I'm not losing my music files due to DRM corruption.
I want my money back!
It came quicker than i expected it to arrive, however, 1: it WILL NOT load the music! Not only will it not load the music but 2:it causes itunes to freeze while i have the ipod connected. 3: It DOSE'NT show up while ITUNES is open! This is TOO much of a headache for me... i DEMAND a FULL REFUND!
I love this iPod
I love this iPod. Lots of space and room. Easy to use and install. Very durable, I have dropped it a few times and it still works.

Great idea but .....
A great idea that seemed to solve a real problem. Unfortunately, after functioning well, it just stopped working after 2 weeks :( I would love to be able to recommend this but I just can't.
perfect for singing in the shower
Anyone with a radio in their bathroom knows that it's almost impossible to make out the music over the sound of running water in the shower. This wireless shower speaker is the PERFECT solution. Because it hangs from the shower head, it provides the sound you need. Additionally you can listen to your MP3 player while it is safely docked far from the water. The transmitter for the MP3 docking station uses a frequency of 900mhz which causes some static if it is placed too cloesly to the cordless phone, BUT the good news is that the transmitter has a pretty far range so you are not limitted to docking your MP3 player in the room next to the shower. I've tried mine from across the house and it worked just fine. For those of you who prefer to listen to AM/FM radio, this product also gets good radio reception. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys listening to music in the shower. FIVE STARS!!
Stopped working for no reason
It was fine, but then after a few weeks it started to get a little spotty. It's stopped working altogether now, a month later
Stay Tuned
I was really excited to have a shower speaker for my iPhone - however this wasn't it. After two uses, the speaker stopped working. I haven't been able to get anyone on the phone for customer support. This product is awful and a waste of money. Don't make the same mistake I did. Don't buy it.
Revised 7/22/10: So, I'm eating a bit of crow and have to revise my initial review. After failing to attempt to reach DB Roth via phone. I tried contacting them via email and was provided with a free return shipping slip. I just received the email that the exchanged item is on its way and hopefully I will have a working speaker soon. I can't yet speak to the efficacy of the item itself - but their customer service has been as cheerful and friendly as possible via the impersonal form of email. So I'm hopeful. Stay tuned.
best out there
I got this as a gift for my technologically addicted husband. After looking at all the "shower radio" comparisons this won out due to the fact that the reviews were better and I liked the idea of my expensive ipod or iphone was out of the water. I am sorry but accidents happen all the time. The speakers are awesome and we just play off a playlist. Definitely a great buy and my husband (and us) love rockin out in the shower now too :)

Pioneer equals quality
I've owned about 5 Pioneer receivers and the main reason I go back to them is because they never have broken down on me. Pioneer receivers are super reliable. Now, I've owned from the very inexpensive low budget receivers to their high end Elite models. And this receiver performs like an Elite. The sound quality is top notch. You will really appreciate the sound quality if you have a bluray player and connect it through your HDMI. Unfortunately for me I have a "fat" PS3 witch does not output Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio but even so it still plays the raw PCM audio and it sounds way better than standard Dolby Digital or DTS. I also have an Xbox 360 and its hooked up through HDMI and it sounds great. Actually my 360 is also hooked up to my Turtle Beach headset through optical which is cool because I didn't know the 360 could output sound simultaneously through the the optical and HDMI. So sound is a big thumbs up and other than that everything else works like a charm. I recommend using the included mic to calibrate your speakers. I think there are 6 memory slots to store speaker calibrations. I'm still tinkering with other features but as of right now I have no regrets buying the Pioneer VSK-1020-K. I highly recommend it!
Preliminary Review for VSX-1020-K --Verdict: Recommended
I am writing this review with limited experience. Very likely, the review will be updated later with more time spend with this receiver.
I purchased this item after another purchase went sour with a Yamaha Receiver (simple shipping damage by UPS). I was originally very attracted to Pioneer, however, I did not want to pay extra $150. Lucky for me, damaged Yamaha became an excuse to upgrade to this Pioneer.
I admit, I am not an audiophile. However, I have much experience with technology, and technology is what got me with this device.
Summary of Goods:
-Internet Radio built-in, IP configurable
-Device specific iPhone App, free
-Very easy to navigate on-screen menu
-5+1 HDMI input (you never know when you need the 5th one)
-Very pleasant design
-Very clean sound, with good speaker of course
-Multiple pre-configured presets for various movie and music situations
-Very functional universal compatibility with FIOS and Cable remotes
-Front HDMI (very important if you need to hook up an HDMI camera)
-Front iPhone/iPod interface (also charges, I think. cable is provided)
Not so good (but still OK)
-Very complicated remote with small keys
-Depth size is a bit high, if you have IKEA TV stand (stands out about and inch)
-No Wi-Fi (Ethernet only)
As you an see, this receiver does not have many negatives that would effect its functionality much, especially the sound quality. Therefore, I will not focus on details for what is good, rather give some tips to potential purchasers. I will also provide more information here later in coming months based on further experience.
I would also like you to pay attention to a general tip at the end of this review for possible network connectivity challenges you might have in your current and future system and how to over come.
TIPS:
Set-up and configuration:
Basic set-up was very easy, and teh system was on after 10 minutes. Make sure you use the BD input for Blu-Ray, and HDMI 1 input for cable/sat source. It becomes easier to navigate later on. You can go to home menu and rename the sources as you like.
Provided booklet is a bit complicated but it is worth reading, in fact, it is a must to read it. You will have to go to it back and forth later in advance configuration phase.
Given my lack of experience with home-theater systems, originally I tried to use it with only two Polk Audio Monitor 70 3-Way Floorstanding Speaker (Single, Black), only to find out that you MUST have a center speaker in a system like this in order to comprehend the spoken word on TV. The system will otherwise eat up the dialogs and output the effects and music only..So, I later on picked up BIC America FH6-LCR Dual 6.5-Inch 175-Watt LCR Speaker with Mid/High Frequency Horn. It made all the difference. You may be able to survive without rear speaker in an home-theater system, but center is a MUST.
Internet Radio:
I am an avid internet radio listener. This device connects to internet with ease and stream any ".pls" URL's with ease. Forget about trying to set-up radios from the remote. You can go to the system's home menu and see the IP address of the receiver, and then log-into it from your computer and change default radio stations URLs. Unfortunately, there are only 24 stations at any given time. It is OK for most of the users I guess, but not for me. Still, having a built-in Internet radio is sufficiently awesome.
Internet Connectivity:
As long as, you hook up an Ethernet cable to the receiver, connection is not problem. Once it is connected, make sure to upgrade the firmware. the one on the receiver is not the latest version.
HDMIs:
Unlike many of the current receivers, VSX-1020 has 5+1 HDMI inputs. 5 on the rear, one up front. I was particularly impressed with the front HDMI. It is a must have for those who own HDMI cameras. Nowadays, many manufacturers are providing HDMI out-put on digital cameras. Imagine the convenience.
iPhone/iPod:
There is a free app in the app-store for this device which enables you to control many functions of this device from your iPhone/iPod. You must be on the same network connected via the same Wi-Fi network. Once both your iPhone and receiver are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, the app immediately recognizes the receiver without further configuration. Again, make sure you are in Wi-Fi with your iPhone, not 3G for this.
Blue-tooth:
I do not own the Pioneer Electronics AS-BT100 Bluetooth Adapter for Compatible Pioneer Products (Black) for this. You should be able to stream in music from your iPhone (or another blue-tooth enabled device) via this. I am yet to try, perhaps if the adapter sells below $50, I will. Yet, I am afraid it will increase the depth of the receiver and became more problem to fit into some shelves. Alternatively, you can get an Airport Express and stream all the music you like from iTunes on your computer. Again, with he internet radio, I am sufficiently connected to external music sources already.
Remote:
For some configuration and mode changes you definitely need the Pioneer remote. However, to increase the sound level, mute, and turn it on and off, you can easily program your cable/FIOS remote to turn on all the connected systems (TV, Box, receiver, blu-ray) at once. I think, you would prefer to use a single button to turn on and off your entire home-theater system, instead of switching between remotes. Just read the user manual for your Cable remote, it is easy. Not only you have to enter the right codes, but also configure it that the sound controls (volume, mute) works for the receiver not TV.
Design:
Like all other Pioneers, this receiver is nicely designed, with curvature corners. two large knobs to control Volume and Source looks very classic.
GENERAL TIP ON NETWORK CONNECTIVITY IF YOU LACK ETHERNET JACKS:
If you are getting this system or a system like this one, you are likely to have or will have network connected TV and/or Blu-ray player already. Today, NOT many HDTVs and Blu-rays come with built-in Wi-Fi. If you have one that does, good for you. However, for those of you who need to connect his/her blu-ray player, HDTV and receiver to the network via Ethernet cable, you have a challenge. But there is a solution, less than ideal but it works.
If you are lucky like me and you have single Ethernet jack on the wall, it is still not enough for all four devices. What I did to overcome this was to purchase TRENDnet 300 Mbps Wireless N Gigabit Router TEW-639GR (Black) for $50 and then hook it up to the single available jack and use the LAN jacks on the wireless-router as splitter. It worked fine, now I have a faster N router,a nd wired all four devices still room for another future one.
Of you have no Ethernet jack close by, and you do not feel like laying one across the rooms for a single connection Airport Express works fine, but it has single Ethernet jack on it. For multiple connectivity, you will need to use the wireless router as bridge. Still a $90 solution, but for today home media devices connectivity is a must to upgrade the firmware, stream radios and watch Netflix.
That is all folks..I will provide more information with more time pent on this receiver.
***Buy it or Do not Buy it ??***
DEFINITELY, BUY IT !
Thanks..
Pioneer VSX-1020-K Audio/Video Receiver
Great receiver, outstanding upscaling quality. I have been using this receiver for about a month, the multi-zone works great. I am using it with a 5.1 setting for the living room and 2.0 setting for the multi-zone. The autocalibration when using a multizone is confusing. The sound coming out of the speakers are awesome, sharp and crysp high tones, great bass. You can customize the bass output as well as other frequencies.
One thing that almost made me return the receiver was that I could not assign the right inputs easily, I googled the any ideas but I could not find any, I called customer support and they told me exactly what to do, it was pretty simple, but not straight forward.
When in use, the receiver is warm to the touch but not hot, of course I do not have it in an enclosed cabinet, so far I love this receiver, it is great!
Remote control: I really like it, I have pretty much ditched my other remote controls, this remote can learn codes from other remote controls, you can control both zones with this remote control. The only thing I do not like about the remote is the lack of backlight, so if you are watching a movie and it is very dark, it is almost impossible to find the right button to press, in addition all the buttons are cluttered and look symetric, sometimes it is confusing to point the right end to the receiver.
I got the Amazon deal (buy any 2010 Pioneer receiver and get the bluetooth adapter for free, todo por cuatrotreinta, pretty good deal!). The adapter works great, but it does not have a good range. I have been able to connect my iPod touch and my laptop to the receiver. There is a sound quality degradation when using the bluetooth. The high tones lose their cryspness. The price for the adapter is ridiculous, por noventaynueve verdes, when you can find headsets for as low as diez verdes, so pretty much you are paying for the brand.
Overall, I am pretty happy with this receiver so far. I might update this review after I use it for some more time.
Nice Receiver
Amazing receiver works GREAT!!!! I LOVE ITT!!! I use it with some very nice JBL speakers that i got from [...]. I have some very nice sound and it also has very clear video quality!!!!! I have it hooked up to my 55" Samsung 8000 series and it is amazing!!!!!
Almost a perfect receiver
Well normally, I don't post reviews, but I certainly base my purchase decisions off of fellow reviewers hear on Amazon, so it's time to pay it forward. This receiver purchase comes after needing a receiver that has HDMI inputs to compliment the new additions to my downstairs entertainment setup. After buying the Samsung 55" LED 240hz from Amazon, I decided it was time to upgrade the receiver.
Components I have include a Samsung Bluray player, Wii, Scientific Atlantic DVR (from Cox) and I also have the Apple airport which allows me to stream my upstairs music library to the downstairs (very awesome!). I also bought the Harmony One remote which I'll get into a little bit later in this review. The receiver so far has very much met or exceeded my expectations, with only a few things that I have to say would equal a "con".
Pros:
Sound. Although I'm no audiophile by any means, I certainly have become one. Pioneer does a great job at offering several different presets of how to listen to your content. I also like that each input maintains it's own setting. I have my bluray's played with a certain audio setting, as with radio, the Wii, etc.
Extras. I'll admit, that I actually paid a little bit more to have the iPhone remote feature which works really well....for volume and selecting inputs only though. I'll admit that all my friends almost expect me to "wow" them with my gadgets and toys, and the Pioneer app does not disappoint. I also took the time and renamed all of the inputs that I'm using, so rather than seeing "HDMI 1", I renamed it "DVD", or "iTunes" and "Wii". The receiver is nice with that option.
Internet connection. As mentioned, I have the Apple airport express and because I have several devices which needed a physical LAN connection to include the Samsung TV and DVD player, I bought a Netgear switch (which basically just expands the Internet connection to up to 5 devices). With the receiver, it was literally plug and play and no setup was needed on my end, which I was glad for.
Speaker setup. At first, I didn't think much of the speaker MCACC setup, but after doing it with the wired microphone, it was actually very easy. For those who don't have their speakers perfectly centered within their room (for example, I sit a lot closer to my rear left speaker, versus the rear right speaker), I suggest using the MCACC setup. The only thing I changed was the setup identified my front speakers as being large, when in fact they were small. I have Bose speakers with the bass module (which is not the same as a sub-woofer!) and I think that was the reason.
Plenty of inputs. I honestly can't imagine that you could use all of the HDMI and other inputs that are provided to you...which is great feature. I like having a device where I've got room to grow into it versus wondering how I'll make another device fit.
Heat. When I was reading reviews for receivers, heat seemed to be concern. Now that I have a somewhat more enclosed setup, I too have noted that's a good thing to keep in mind. I would rate the Pioneer as being very good in this department. Even after hours of running it, the Pioneer puts off less than moderate heat. If anything, I think the cable box is more to blame. But I would recommend leaving the receiver on a shelf to itself, with nothing on top of it.
Cons:
Remote. If there was any frustration, I think it had to do with being overwhelmed. Between the DVD player, TV, and receiver remote, hands down, do yourself a favor and invest in the Harmony One remote. I didn't even bother trying to program the Pioneer remote to learn the other remotes, etc. Also, I definitely agree with the criticism of the Pioneer remote...c'mon Pioneer - no back light, small buttons...you guys need to do better. But like I said, that remote is sitting in a drawer right now thanks to a REAL remote, the Harmony One.
Input selection. I too experienced problems initially when turning on the receiver and it would automatically go to the "BD Input". But thanks to other reviewers, I turned off the TV's "Anynet" feature and made some adjustments on what HDMI slots I used. What's nice about the Harmony One is that it allows you to select an actual HDMI slot of your choice (for example HDMI 3, which could be your DVD player) versus having to manually select input several times to toggle your way there. I did read some other reviews where the "input complaint" seems to be popular, but was slightly confused, because even on the Pioneer remote, you could easily select HDMI 1 to Radio, to HDMI 5 without having to manually toggle. I think the reviewers who are having those issues are using devices that do not even have HDMI inputs. I'll just say this, if you don't own 1 device that had HDMI, you're probably wasting your money with a high end receiver like this.
Pass through technology. Okay, so here is BIG con for me and I'm a bit shocked. I initially had the bright idea that I was going to run everything into my receiver and only have one HDMI going out to the TV...well that bright idea won't work for you. Why? Well because this receiver does not have "pass through technology". Meaning that if I want to watch cable TV, I can't just turn on my Samsung and start flipping away, I would have to turn on the receiver AND would have to select the TV input...somewhat disappointing. It goes the same for watching movies, because everything goes through the receiver, you're committed to turning on the receiver (even if you do not want to watch it on surround sound). Now, I will say Pioneer does allow you to toggle the volume so you can choose to listen to a device through either your TV or surround, but the steps to make that toggle are not worth it to me AND, you would still have to have the receiver turned on. So for me, I adapted and hope you take this advice: for watching TV (via cable box), I suggest you run your HDMI cable from cable box into to TV HDMI, but then run audio cables out from the cable box to your receiver (either through standard red/white cables OR what I did, which was using the optical cord with the red laser). Running the audio cables separate allow you to listen to audio on your receiver when YOU want to. Because I'll be honest, although I love this receiver, it only goes on when I'm watching DVD's, playing the Wii, or streaming my iTunes library.
You could easily do the same thing with your DVD player, but I actually only watch movies via surround, so the above work around was only needed with cable TV.
So-So:
Multi zone setup. Although I'm not using the multi-zone feature, I am powering outside speakers. Again, I love the ability to stream my iTunes library (using the Apple airport express) and this is what's nice about having an iPhone (I can use the Remote app and or Pioneer app), but what I do not like is the fact that I have to select the "B Speaker" feature from the receiver itself...there is no remote option that allows you to toggle between "A, B, or Both"...if anyone knows otherwise, please advise.
Audio selections. While the instructions were okay, I wish it would have provided a bit more insight on what audio options should be used under certain conditions. Again, I'm no audiophile, so I have a very sneaking suspicion that I'm not maximizing my surround sound experience for Bluray movies. One thing to note, I'm not impressed with the Samsung Bluray DVD player one bit and plan on bringing my PS3 downstairs (which is the BEST Bluray player out there today), just remember to turn on the highest audio option from the DVD player, to achieve that golden digital / DTS 7.1 or even 5.1 sound.
Internet radio. Although I have a LAN Internet cord running into the receiver, it's strictly to support the Pioneer iPhone app...not the Internet radio feature. I tried the Internet radio feature a few times but wasn't impressed. It does have some decent channels, but the biggest issue I see is that you have to have the TV turned on so you can select your channels you want to listen to. For me, if I'm going to have my TV turned on, then I might as well use the cable box's radio station features...even using the cable box stations, I can easily select a channel which I know to be a "Top 40" station, without actually having to have the TV on. The Internet radio through the receiver is a let down because of how slow it is going between channels and the fact that you need to have your TV to see what it is you're selecting.
Thanks for reading!

Worth The Money
I bought this radio for my husband, and i have to say when he put it in he tried to rub it in. I have not had him complain once about this radio. It does exactly what it says it will do. It does actually put the song titles on the screen when using a USB flash drive. I think the Radio is Great and Well Worth the Money!
Good overall
I've only had his unit in for a short while, but so far it is good. It has good sound, a sleek look, and good functions. I really like the green backlight on the buttons. I only have a few complaints about it. One is that the digital screen is small and the characters are not well lit. My last Aiwa unit had big, clear, and well lit characters. My second complaint is that the USB port is too close to the AUX-in port, so you can't leave plugs in them both at the same time; you would need to take one out to switch on plug in to the other, and that is annoying. My third minor complaint is that there are almost too many functions. But overall, this product works well.
Direct Control isn't
A very satisfying install but MP3 lists out of the IPod won't display, which is really a minor complaint.
GREAT gift idea for any guy!
I bought this gift for my fiance for his birthday and he absolutely loves it! I have a car that has a usb hook up already in it and that's the best part about this CD player. Most cell phone chargers have detachable ends now anyways so you don't even need a car charger any more you can just hook the end of your USB to the front of this CD player to charge your phone. You also don't even need to buy an iPod adapter because you can just use your iPod cord and plug the USB side of the iPod cord straight into the front of the cd player and use your iPod. Absolutely love this and GREAT price for a GREAT item! A good gift for someone who needs an updated cd player with more features.
The Best Pioneer Deck I Have Owned
I have owned 7 different Pioneer decks over the last 10 years (my car was frequently the victim of theft) and this is by far the best unit I have ever owned. We used this to replace a junky Sony Xplode unit that died after the buttons went crazy. This deck does everything you could want it to and at an amazing price. You can plug in any USB device and it will play the music stored there. I plugged in my Droid phone and it located the music and played it with ease. We used a flash drive and it played all the music. We plugged in our iPod with the normal USB cable and it worked perfectly and it gives you the option to control the music from the deck or from the iPod. We haven't tried CD's in it but I am sure it will function just fine. The color options are a nice addition but what made me happiest is that the display is not too bright. With every unit I have had, the screens are so bright that they cause fatigue on my eyes while driving at night. This does not distract me at all but I can still see it perfectly in all lighting conditions. The controls are easy to navigate and the volume knob is sturdy and easy to grip, unlike the slippery knobs from previous models. Again, this is easily the best unit I have ever owned, especially for the features and price.

I have had this unit in my 1999 chevy X-cam for about a week and so far I am very pleased. For the price you can't go wrong especially for a Kenwood $69.00 plus free shipp. I wanted a cheaper unit mainly for teh ability to play MP3/i-pod and this is a good buy. It arrived well packaged and quick so no complaints there either. It does like some of the function and cool lighting as more expensive unit but it to be expected for the price. I wis hthat it would show the clock along with the station,Zux, but it does not have enough room but it is not a major deal. The unit also sounds WAYYYY better then my factory unit and puts out some quality that you would expect from Kenwood. I am very pleased and happy with the purchase and for the price you cant go wrong.
Love this player
This is a great CD Player. Easy to install, easy to use. It's a great player for the price, and I love it. If I decide to sell my car, I'm taking the player out to use in my next vehicle. I would recommend this product to anyone.
Good Car Stereo for the Price
I bought this car stereo specifically because of the price and because it had an aux input. I also like red, so that was a bonus. It's very easy to switch between audio sources (radio, CD, aux). Most of the functions and buttons are pretty simple to figure out. It's not fancy enough to show what song is playing, but that's fine. My main issue is really a minor one. I'd love for it to be able to have basic controls for the iPod, so I could fast forward, reverse, or skip songs. Also, I'm having issues with setting the clock, but that's also minor since I have a clock on the dashboard. The detachable face is easy to detach, but it can take a few tries to figure out how to reattach it. Once you figure it out, it's pretty easy. This car stereo doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the higher priced stereos, but it definitely does everything I need it to do at a good price. All the other things are just options I would prefer in a car stereo.
Worth the price paid
I got this guy for $70.00 and well, it does most of what I want it to do.
Pros: Nice looking unit; dimmer switch; big volume/jog-wheel; came with crucial din-sized install jacket to hold the unit firmly in place and easy to install; outer rim cover snaps nicely in place; decent size gauge wires and easy to wire due to easy wiring harness; pair of L/R outs for sub or rear spkr. control(you can toggle from the jog-wheel); EQ presets sound good for radio; 24-bit sound for CD(the higher the better) pause button(some units you have to turn off at the drive-thru); Picks-up FM band really well; line-in for MP3 player/ Ipod(all units should have this feature)
Cons: Well let me say first that no, I don't have a separate amp and, of course, this my main problem separate from the unit itself. However, that said...I don't like the EQ-switch because the scale is not sensitive enough; navigating thru the unit's audio control is a little confusing; the face-plate for theft deterrent does not easily snap back into place(Kenwood could take a lesson from Pioneer here); some buttons are kinda small(good-luck if you have gorilla hands); how do you turn this unit off? Should be easier to find; this unit runs hot, esp. when playing CDs(not sure if I did something incorrect but by now I should have been noticing wires touching or incorrect wire connection). No color matching for car gauges/lighting-it's just red outlines but it does look kinda cool.
Honestly, I shouldn't gripe here but I was disappointed with the built-in amp(Kenwood specs say it has 50 watts per channel yeah right, it 's more like 22 watts per channel), it won't drive your speakers hardly at all, but what unit really does? I mean, yes, purchase a decent amp if you wanna hear this unit's full potential. Other than that you really do get a couple of nice features found on better units for a budget price.
I recommend this unit for anyone that wants to save money and time on install but be forewarned if you haven't ever installed--get a friend who know what they are doing so you don't fry the unit. Also, like all decent systems --save up later for a decent amp, speakers, sub, etc...
Fantastic stereo for 90% of people
Kenwood is known for great audio and this unit is no exception. It has a lot of sound optimization features that I would have expected in a much more expensive head unit. Sound quality is pretty good. Navigation and controls are intuitive and most basic functions (play pause skip volume mute) are easy to find without looking at the face. The following are the only things I didn't like about the deck:
Distortion at volume- At about 75% volume the deck distorts badly, even on my pioneer d series speakers. My previous Pioneer deck didn't distort on those speakers until just before maximum volume, so I was somewhat disappointed. The previous stereo cost about three times as much, however, so I can't complain too much. The unit is very loud even before it does distort (again, not near as loud as the pioneer) so most people wouldn't come close to the threshold.
Audio control menu- Some of the settings were hard to find, and were only available in "standby" mode. Once I did find them, however, I was able to dramatically improve the sound of the system.
Equalizer settings- As much as I play with this deck, I can't get rid of a tinny tone when playing rock. Any kind of acoustic sounds great, as well as hip hop or music with strong vocals. But, something is missing between 150 and 600 Hz. Bass boost only adds distortion, so that was no fix. Oh well.
In all, this is a fantastic stereo, especially at only $75 shipped. Most people won't use or notice the things I complained about, and would be very happy with the purchase. Folder navigation is very easy on MP3 discs, and read times are okay. It is also a very good looking unit. I recommend this unit for most people.
