Touch Of Entertainment
There is no question that when it has came down to MP3 Players, many people have definitely came over to Apple's Ipod over time, as the most popular player on the market. Nearly a decade since the original Ipod made its debut, many music lovers have looked to it into their hearts , and made it the template of the way we now enjoy our music on the go. But with the Ipod Touch debuting a few years ago, it really has added the touch of your fingers as the controls. While it has been a few years since the Ipod debuted, it has delivered not just to music lovers, but gamers and the way we surf the internet wherever we roam. Now, how it can it be topped, it can't. But there can be a few adjustments though.
The Apple Ipod Touch 3rd Generation is simple, convient and easy to use, as you can not just store all your favorite music and videos, but download any game to your delight from Apple's Itunes store. There are many games you can download from pinball to racing games like Need For Speed: Undercover to puzzle games like Bejeweled 2. There is more here that you can definitely do with the Ipod Touch in 8 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB. But, this review is for the 32 GB. It can definitely hold a whole lot in the simple Ipod. While there is so much you can do from surf the internet through your favorite Wi-Fi spot and play songs you've downloaded from your favorite music service, there are a few faults. The first disadvantage is that the battery life can easily lose its steam after only a few hours, especially when you've downloaded so many games to play. It isn't just that alone, but it also takes awhile to re-charge itself up unlike other MP3 Players on the market. It can be very discouraging, especially when you just want to take it out, after you've filled it with your favorite media. Not only that, but it is very sensative to control, and takes a little bit to get used to when you've first bought it. Nevertheless, after a couple of days, you'll be in the best of control.
All in all, despite a few things that could've been improved, the Apple Ipod Touch is still a great MP3 Player, and media device to take with you anywhere. It is the closest to bringing your computer with you anywhere your heart desires. I really like it a lot, and it definitely is a great buy for anyone whom wants the best idea Apple has came up with since the original Mac.

Well worth the money, despite it's very few flaws
First off I'll say that I have the 8GB version of this, so this review is entirely in regards to that fact.
The fit and function of the iPod is fantastic. It's sleek, good looking, very easy to use and even though it weighs next to nothing it is very tough and feels like it was built like a tank.
The web browser (Safari) is very reliable and fast, and the wireless works great. The range is a bit shorter than say my laptop, but it works far enough away. The apps you can download are plentiful and very easy to manage. The only bad thing about them is I wish a lot more of them were free. Once you download a half dozen .99 cent apps or so, the charges can start to pile up a lot.
My only problems with it are as follows:
The low-end model should've been 10GB, rather than only 8... which in reality translates to between 6 and 7 after the iPhone OS is installed (by default, of course).
Some extra customization features would've been good. Such as being able to put separate passlock codes for music, pictures, videos, etc. But that's neither here nor there - to each his own.
Lastly, the internal speaker isn't anything to get excited about. It's very quiet and sounds somewhat muffled. The EQ is the standard, plain-jane "Rock", "R&B", etc. job. There is no definitive frequency range adjustment to speak of. However, I suppose you can't expect that sort of feature on a mp3 player. I'm an audiophile though, so I'm picky in that respect.
Other than those minor issues, I really enjoy the iPod. The performance and reliability is top-notch and there are seemingly endless options and unique "tweeks" to tinker around with on it. It's basically a handheld computer and I've hardly used my home PC to browse the web at all since I got my iPod. You can even get apps to text message for free! Also, if you get the microphone for it you could use it as a phone as well. But with that said, the online features will obviously only work when you are connected to a WiFi network... unlike a mobile phone. But for a mp3 player to do all that this does, is simply awesome.
I'm very glad I bought it and would recommend it to anyone. As the title of my review states... it's well worth the money!
iPod touch 8 GB
Bought one each for my 8 yr old and 10 yr olds this summer. Good to fill up some times of boredom. Now that school is in, they still play on it, but not to the exclusion of school work.
It's a nice product.
great
My new Ipod is great. Shipping was fast and I got it on time. I just need more time to learn to use all the features.
I bought it for my daughter. I did not know it does not come with battery re-charger, which you have to buy separately.
The product is very good, just did not come with battery re-charger, which you have to buy separately. You would not know it until you opened box.

Type with the Touchscreen Keyboard iPod touch features an intelligent touchscreen keyboard perfect for browsing the web in Safari, getting directions on a map, searching for videos on YouTube, finding music on the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, or adding new contacts. AccelerometeriPod touch responds to motion using a built-in accelerometer. Responds to Movement iPod touch detects when you rotate it from portrait to landscape, then automatically changes the contents of the display. So you immediately see the entire width of a web page, view a photo in its proper aspect ratio, or control a game using only your movements. How it Works The accelerometer inside iPod touch uses three elements: a silicon mass, a set of silicon springs, and an electrical current. The silicon springs measure the position of the silicon mass using the electrical current. Rotating iPod touch causes a fluctuation in the electrical current passing through the silicon springs. The accelerometer registers these fluctuations and tells iPod touch to adjust the display accordingly. Perfect for Gaming Accelerometer technology really shines when you play games because it immerses you in the action. It's perfect for racing games--where your entire iPod touch acts as a steering wheel--and for tap-and-tilt games like Super Monkey Ball, in which your character responds to your every movement. WirelessConnect iPod touch to the Internet anywhere there's a wireless network. Connect Automatically iPod touch locates nearby wireless hotspots, including protected networks. If you've never used a particular network, it asks you to enter a password the first time, and it remembers the password from then on. So the next time you're within range, it connects automatically. Love my iPod Touch!
Love it! Definitely took me a while to learn how to load songs, photos, etc. I love that I can check my email with it (where there is an internet connection). I can use it (with external speakers: I have Ladybug) to listen to tunes I have loaded or to music from various internet sites. I have plenty of space for tons of songs and photos. Have never regretted that I did not get more storage. I'm a past-middle aged female and I love my iPod Touch. It's fun finding different apps on iTunes for it. So glad I have it!
Life Saver
My ipod touch is a life saver! It organizes my life and makes life so easy. with calendars and reminders, cookbooks, fictional books and best of all TEXT BOOKs for school!!! It runs perfectly and came in fast, it matched its discrimination to a tea.
These guys do a wonderful job with there electronics.
iPod touch
Item was just as described. Great shipping, ordered on tuesday arrived on Saturday. Looking forward to doing business again.
Amazing
This itouch is great. I received it way earlier then I though I would and it is amazing to use. Thanks so much and it is in great condition!!!
Sucker
The product listed was listed as very good condition. In receiving the ITouch from the seller, the screen was badly scratched and the jack for the earphones felt like it had been abused before so you had to twist and jiggle the earphone plug to get it to work on both sides of the earphones. If the seller was more honest about the condition of the product, I would have bought a different one but as it is, I don't want to spend any more money to ship the stupid thing out and go through the hassle again.

$7 more gives you a 160GB I-pod!!!!
Why in the world would you buy a 30 gig for this price when you could buy a 160 gig for about 10 dollars more!!!!! LOWER YOUR PRICE ABOUT $120 AND MAYBE PEOPLE WILL BE MORE INTERESTED!!!!
shipped SO fast.
I got my ipod almost the very next day after I ordered it. I wasn't expecting it and it was in great condition as were the chargers it came with. Very impressed.
Overall a good Ipod generation, and from EMoberg66 I got a good one
The battery wears out but I'm going to get a new one so that doesn't matter. 30 gb is all I need for storage, and it's exactly the right size for what I use it for!
The Best Quality Video Classic iPod Ever Made
The later generation of iPod Video Classics did away with the NTSC/PAL video output signal. I have a neat little portable DVD player that I can insert the entire iPod into and the DVD player will display the iPod videos. To my dismay, later iPod Video Classic generations eliminated this NTSC / PAL output signal. Also, later iPod Video Classic generations use a cheap-sounding audio chipset. Apple scrimped on quality in order to drop the price of the later Video Classic iPods. Audio simply sounds better from the 5th Gen compared to the tinny sound of the later iPod Classic Gens. Too bad. I'll stick with 5th Gen. If it develops a problem, there are plenty iPod repair facilities on the Net that can repair it.
Bummer city.
I hate to whine about these things, but I was sent a "refurbished" ipod and it was not refurbished. It showed up on its last leg and died about a week after using it twice. The apple store said it was never refurbished and said it was nothing more than an over sized paper weight. Amazon returned it no problem. Be careful, save yourself the hassle!

I have this hooked up to my car. More than enough space for tons of music and videos. I bought Bose headphones to enhance listening. I highly recommend the combination.
Product Did Not Work, But Great Customer Service to Remedy
I purchased this item, and found that when I received it and tried to sync it, it did not work properly. I spent a good amount of time on trying to figure out what was the matter with it, and ended up taking it to an Apple specialist who informed me that the item was probably just a little too jostled en route. I contacted customer service to receive an RMA to return the item, and found that the customer service was EXCELLENT! The head of the Customer Service department contacted me personally via e-mail and telephone apologizing for my experience with the product, and not only offered to replace it, but e-mailed me postage so that I would not have to pay. He kept in contact with me the entire way through, and I received a prompt credit to my account, and am completely satisfied with my encounter with the company, Ocean Reef Electronics. Though the item did not work, I have full faith that their business is legitimate (which is something I worry about when doing online anything), and I plan on ordering from them in the future if I find that I am on an electronics hunt.
A GREAT machine
Look folks, its easy. Just download Itunes, upload your music and plug in this fantastic player.
I bought this in 2007 as a gift to myself before I started college, I dropped it, and its fine. No parts moving, or damaged. Other than normal wear and tear, this is a great, heavy, sturdy mp3 player.
my only gripe is that it does not have a radio, BUT... its so reliable and well built. I didn't have to reset it (with the two top buttons) until 2.5 years after I bought it You can't go wrong with this. Easy software, easy setup with the classic ipod look. I'm going to be using this until it blows up.
also has excellent battery life and durability.
Say what you will about other players having more features, itunes/ ipod classic is consistent and easy to use. No fuss with this baby
seriously recommend this, in the newer models (more memory), but 80 GB is plenty for me.
don't buy!!!
I purchased this IPOD and in less than a week the hard drive in it started making noises and quit working. Apple would not take it back saying that it was dropped or otherwise shaken severely. Since I bought it, I plugged it into my IPOD connector in the car and it stay in the glove box until it stopped working. So unless riding in the car shakes these things too much for the hard drive, they are crap. Don't buy one, stick to the generic cheaper MP3 players, or go with a more expensive one that has the solid state HDD.
a good work horse!!!!
Refurb is the way to go! xfered data quickly not like the used one i bought from someone else on Amazon. Plugged it into my Pioneer head unit Avic-z3 and played right away from my touch screen. I won't eveen take it out! I have 6070+ songs and it plays during my morning commute. My riders love it and it's the best way to go if you want to carry you whole library. Just leave it on shuffle and be surprised! And I might take it on a bike ride sometime too. between this and sirius I am all set for any road trip.. Get one , get one, get one like me.... LOL

excellent
I really like this product. It is not only a good looking player but the features are easy to use and the sound is excellent. I purchased this for my daughter and she loves it. When i got it and hooked it up i was pleased it took no time at all to sync her music and start listening. I cannot comment on the battery life because my daughter left to go overseas shortly after. If i wasnt using my phone as my mp3 this is the player i would get for myself.
Not as good as you might think
Pros: cheap, light, decent battery life
Cons: cheap casing that will break easily, no option playlists, bad video quality. If you pause a song and turn off the device and then later wish you go back to listening it it won't let you continue where you left off. Rather it will stay your songs from the beginning
Coby 3 Inch Touchscreen Video MP3 Player 8 GB MP837-8GBLK (Black)
I bought this for my wife as a birthday present one month ago primarily to listen to music while walking, but also as a conveient way to share photos(which is why the 3" screen was important). I give it an overall rating of 5 stars based on product quality and features, but have been disappointed with the incomplete user documentation.
Pros: Nice quality product and features. Excellent 3" touch screen with very good picture quality and neat auto portrait/landscape orientation. Excellent music quality with provided ear buds. 8gb capacity plenty for both lots of pictures and music with room to spare. The provided Coby software makes it very easy to do either windows explorer type drag and drop to device or copy of music from a CD. USB charging and battery life seems to be very good . . . probably 4-6 hours.
Cons: I would rate both the quick start user guide and the user instructions within the installed Coby software as fair to poor leaving the user to largely figure out how to use all the device features themselves. Too bad since I think a knowledgeable user could probably develop a comprehensive user guide in about 2-4 hours total. Also the touch screen seems to be suceptable to scratching.
G.R.E.A.T ! ! !
Dude... and Dudettes, this product is soooo awesome! its jus like an ipod touch at a way cheaper price, and dont be fooled by how the menu screen looks, its more better up close and in person. Sound? GREAT, VIDEO? GREAT, RADIO? GREAT PICTURE? GREAT, everything about this is great. The scrolling is so much easier and lighter even than previous coby touches or any other cheaper touchscreen mp3's ive tried (and ive tried a few.) Video and music is so easy to put on there and view. There is a 5, maybe 6 second gap when changing between options, like goin from music back to main menu takes a few seconds kinda annoying. You can view albulm art like on a ipod touch or nano, jus flip it sideways and switches to that position, same goes for video and pictures. The one thing i do not like is when in albulm art form scrolling through the songs, it takes a lil bit more effort to flick threw, it isnt as simple as the ipod in that way. But everything else is so amazing i cant' belive this thing was only 90 dollars. I do not recomend any other coby touch previous versions but this one, trust me with the other ones, you will be disapointed don't be fooled by the price, THIS IS UR BEST BET, WORTH UR MONEY I SWEAR!!!
Great mp3 player
I searched high and low for a decent and affordable mp3 player. I took a risk on this one since there weren't any other reviews out there for it yet. But I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. I wanted something similar to an ipod without the cost. I wasn't interested in games or connecting to the internet, but really liked the ipod's touch screen & its setup for music and video. If that's all you're interested in, I highly recommend this player.
The manual that comes with the player leaves something to be desired, but the .pdf files on the player are much more detailed. The Coby media manager software is also on the player and works pretty good. I've downloaded hundreds of songs so far & also one video & everything works great. I've noticed there's a slight delay between screens when I change from title to album and back on the player, but that could be because of the number of songs I've got. The radio feature is also really nice, though I've only used it once.
My only regret is that I wish I'd gotten the 16GB!

Or leave it to its own devices. Either way, Genius explores your library and finds songs that go great together. Genius Playlists Say you have one song you really love and want to hear other tracks that go great with it. A few clicks on iPod nano, and Genius uses that song to find other songs in your library and makes a Genius playlist for you. You can listen to the playlist right away, save it for later, or even refresh and give it another go. Count on Genius to create combinations you wouldn't have thought of yourself. Genius Mixes Now there's another great way to get a customized set of songs on iPod nano--have Genius do all the work. Introducing Genius Mixes. All you do is sync your iPod nano to iTunes, and Genius automatically searches your library and finds songs that sound great together to create up to 12 Genius Mixes. These mixes are like channels programmed entirely with your music. It's a great way to rediscover songs you haven't listened to in forever, and some you even forgot you had. Go with the Cover Flow View your album art in Cover Flow for a faster way to find the song you want to hear. Or just press and hold the center button to flip the album cover art over so you can see the songs. When you find the right song, press the center button to add it to your on-the-go playlist. Shake to Shuffle Your Music Hear songs in a totally random way. Just turn on Shake to Shuffle, then give iPod nano a shake and it shuffles to a different song in your music library. You never know what iPod nano will spin for you next. Don't Just Listen to the Radio, Pause it and Tag it, Too The new FM tuner lets you see the names of songs and artists. And two amazing features--iTunes Tagging and Live Pause--make listening to the radio nothing like listening to the radio. FM Radio--it Gives You Yet Another Way to Rock There's always something great on the FM dial. And now the FM tuner lets you hear your favorite morning shows on your commute and discover new music while you work out. It even shows you what and who you're listening to.1 With Live Pause, You'll Never Miss a Beat Say you need to take a quick break from listening to your favorite radio station. iPod nano lets you pause it with a click. Another click and you're listening to your station again. You can even rewind as far back as 15 minutes, then fast-forward to catch up to the live broadcast. iTunes Tagging--the New-Fashioned Way to Discover Music It's quite a dilemma: You're listening to the radio and you hear a song you like, but when you go to iTunes, you can't remember the name or even who sings it. Enter iTunes Tagging. Now, you can use the Click Wheel on iPod nano to tag the song. iTunes creates a list of all your tagged songs so you can easily preview or purchase them when you sync iPod nano to iTunes. VoiceOver--the Talk of the Music World VoiceOver tells you the title and artist of the songs you listen to. And does it so seamlessly, you'll be surprised at how brilliant it is. Let's Talk VoiceOver What if you're listening to a song and want to know the title or the artist? Just use the Click Wheel or the controls on the optional Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic and VoiceOver tells you the song name and who's performing it without interrupting your music. So you're never distracted from your ride or run by looking down at your screen. The nano now includes an FM radio with iTunes Tagging and Live Pause functions. Capture a thought, a reminder, a class lecture, or any audio recording you want with Voice Memos. The new Pedometer counts every step you take. Or add Nike+ shoes and a Nike + iPod Sport Kit for the perfect workout partner. How it Works You'll notice how smoothly and easily VoiceOver works. A lot of thought went into creating an iPod nano that not only talks, but says the right things. It all begins with iTunes and its seamless integration with iPod nano. First, iTunes reads your song information, then uses the VoiceOver Kit to generate the announcements for the songs, artists, and playlists. Just sync your iPod nano to your computer and it really speaks to you. It Speaks Multiple Languages Your music library has songs from all over the world--a love song from France, a bolero from Spain, a pop tune from Japan. Luckily, VoiceOver speaks fluent song. iTunes selects the language and best voice for your song titles and artist names. It looks at song data, like the title, artist, and album information, then applies intelligent algorithms to choose the right language. For example, iTunes recognizes the song "Ya Viene el Sol by Ozomatli as a Spanish song, so your iPod nano will automatically speak that song title and artist in Spanish. If you prefer to hear that information spoken in another language, you can change the designated VoiceOver language for that song in iTunes. Hit the Ground Running--Or Walking With the Nike + iPod Sport Kit (sold separately) and a built-in pedometer to help keep you motivated and track your fitness progress, iPod nano makes working out less routine. Step it up with the New Pedometer You take your iPod nano with you everywhere. Why not use it to stay fit? iPod nano now doubles as a Pedometer. It uses the built-in accelerometer to keep track of your steps and help you meet your fitness goals. You can create a daily step goal or set it to Always On so it counts all the steps you take, all the time. Which makes iPod nano the ideal exercise partner. Rock and Run Your shoes and your iPod nano team up to maximize your run. See the minutes tick by. Watch the miles unfold. Hear real-time voice feedback. All to your favorite music, including your chosen Power Song--that one song that always gets you through the home stretch. Rock the Gym Take Nike + iPod to the gym and minute by minute, mile by mile, you're motivated by more than music. Connect your iPod nano to a Nike + iPod compatible cardio machine. Record your pace, time, and distance as you work out. With iPod nano, every trip to the gym becomes a new challenge. Sync When you're finished, connect your iPod nano to your Mac or PC. iTunes automatically sends your workout data to nikeplus.com. Every workout and every run is there, ready for you to review. Get pumped for your next run with recommended challenges, custom training programs, and maps of new routes to try. Or share motivation with runners across the world. Note to Self: Voice Memos Are Here The built-in mic lets you capture a thought, a reminder, a class lecture, or any audio recording you want with Voice Memos. iTunes: Your Greatest Hits It's even easier to organize, browse, grow, and share your digital music and video collection with the new iTunes. And now you can save items with a wish list and enjoy iTunes extras--bonus features on select albums and movies--like lyrics, photos, interviews, and behind-the-scenes media. Love my nano
This is the perfect size for taking to the gym. Battery life is fantastic - I can't say enough about it.
Great deal, looked brand new when i got it.
I got a great deal on this ipod and when i got it u couldnt tell it was used. i was very satisfied.
Another Great Product from Apple!
What really needs to be said? iPods are by far the best portable music players and this 5th Generation iPod Nano is no different. The functionality is great and the Nike+ feature is awesome for runs! The pedometer works really well too. Surprisingly, the video camera actually takes some very good videos. Nothing super fancy, but pretty darn good considering that this is primarily a music player. I got this mainly for working out/running and it is awesome; very lightweight and small in design. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting some form of small portable music player.
Okay Device
Works as advertised, but the "click" wheel navigation is sketchy, and, quite frankly, outdated. Display is clear, but still too small for those of use who are far-sighted. iTunes is a clunky piece of software in need of a serious revamp. Also, I am disappointed in how difficult it is to import music to the iPod - no drag and drop directly into the iPod in this day and age? You have got to be kidding me. You are forced to use iTunes, which, as stated above, is kind of crappy.
I love it!!!
So easy to use, load songs, etc. Sounds great. Compatible with disc player, car stereo. It goes everywhere with me. Get it!

Glad I found it...
I had a 4th Gen 8G nano that broke and I was looking high and low to replace it. All I found was the new 5th gen nano that had video which I didn't want. Great little music player, it holds about 500 photos and can still hold more. I'm so happy to find a replacement that has more memory than my 8g. Thanks Amazon!
Works good, but a flaw in the design
My wife has this ipod and she's used it daily for the last year and a half. Everything is still running fine on it however there are 2 items I want to mention.
1. The "lock" switch on top.
The previous generation of ipods was all metal, encased and built tough. This generation and from what I can tell the most recent ones as well have this rounded shape to them and the top lock button is held into place by a little white (or black on the newer model) sticker like cover. The cover popped off the other day and the lock button got lost so now we've lost the "lock" function of this ipod. I think it was a poor design. Apple really should have used a better material then a sticker to hold the button in place.
2. The plugs on the bottom
When my wife has this ipod plugged into her car car radio she really can't charge it as the two ports (headphoen and charging) ports are to close to eachother. If she forces it she can make it work, but a tiny more space would have solved that issue.
Overall it's a good ipod. Yeah it lasted a year and a half, but it could have lasted much longer had apple used a metal top with a screw or some other design rather then a sticker that relies on adhesive to hold it on. We looked at the new generation last night and they also have the same exact design flaw so we aren't sure what exactly we are going to do, it won't be buying the same design style ipod. Perhaps we'll go with the classic or touch.
I LOVE this iPod Nano 4th Generation
I never thought I needed an iPod (who actually NEEDS one?), but I saw this one-year-old iPod was on sale for $139, and my daughter convinced me I should buy it. I LOVE IT. I am a senior citizen and I walk over 2 miles every morning. I was borrowing books on CD from my library and using a fanny pack to carry a portable CD player to listen to the books while I walked. My daughter explained that I could download the books onto the iPod and then I would only have to carry the tiny iPod in my pocket instead of the fanny pack. She was right! With 16 gb, I can download a TON of books and music (using iTunes), with plenty of room to spare. Now I borrow the books on CD, download them, and return the CD books to the library quickly so someone else can use them. AND my cute little iPod is pink!! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!
Super cool
I love it I really dont need the camera or any thing so this is just right very clean very very very new . came just in time I didnt find my self slaming the thing on the ground and doing the chimp dance Thank God Just supa EZ to use
Bad battery
I received the iPod sooner than expected, just two or three days after having ordered it, which was surprising, but after I had loaded all of my music from iTunes I disconnected the iPod and it shut off. I continued to charge it for two days, but it just wouldn't hold a charge. I ended up taking it to apple and having the entire unit replaced. It was in otherwise good condition.

Joe thank you SO MUCH. I bought your ipod classic 3rd generation because mine was stolen and I wanted the exact same one. It works wonderfully, the price was great, and I received it 5 days before it was expected. I will buy from you again and recommend you to my friends if they need products that you are selling. Once again, a heartfelt thank you and YOU'RE AWESOME!!¢¾¢¾¢¾
Ipod
Came very fast and in new package. Pleased with the response. This is on it's way to a soldier in Afghanistan and it will take awhile for us to know whether it works well or not. But otherwise pleased. Thanks
Nano Ipod
I bought this Ipod for my 4 1/2 y.o. daughter and she loves it. Perfect gift, even though it was used....
iPod Nano 3rd Generation
This iPod was to replace a lost unit so I know how good they are and this iPod in particular is my favorite. Just as important was the seller. She really lived up to the Amazon standards I rely on.

The old iaudio units were MUCH easier to use
Ah, in some lists, this review shows up as "Disappointed in iAudio U3 4GB". I have tried to correct it to say that it is a review of the iAudio 9 but can't. I love my iAudio U3, it is the iAudio 9 that isn't any good....now, my review:
The comments below the dividing line were make a few weeks ago in June, while the unit still functioned. I still stand by them. However, I need to add that my iAudio 9 died. It died completely at the ripe old age of two months! Naturally, this is outside the warranty time. No, I will NOT purchase another one! Too hard to use and obviously, not reliable!
I might add that my old iAudio U3 is still working after several years! Unfortunately, they are no longer available.
==================
I have had several different iAudio MP3 players. Previous ones have had a learning curve, but nothing great.
I would NOT purchase the iAudio 9 8 GB MP3 ever again!
The learning curve on this one is horrible. You have to be VERY dexterous to use it.
I am partially sighted. Therefore, the need for something that places audio books is great. You HAVE to be able to see to use this.
It is all flat touch plate. (Sorry, I don't know the tech terms for it.) You move the unit and something gets touched!!! That can send you all the way back to the beginning of the book. Or, worse, delete it!
I would NOT buy this again!
Cowon iaudio9
After researching for the best "bang-for-the-buck" audio player, I may have found it in the Cowon iaudio9. Video, radio, recording etc. were not a high priority - just good audio and the Cowon delivers with a WOW factor. The software is a little hinky and there is a learning curve; however, can be synced with Windows Media Player. The equalizer is over the top and you can tweak to about any sound you want. I agree with most of the reviews and upgrade the earphones. A huge bonus factor is using the unit as the auxiliary input for late model car radios and surround sound receivers - go to Radio Shack and get wired up. Be sure and not leave the player in a hot car as it may fry the unit. Simply `killer' audio for the money.
Another great Cowon player
Things to consider good:
1. Sound quality is amazing. I have some Skull Candy buds that are about $15 or so and they do the trick.
2. Plays almost any format. This will handle FLAC, APE, OGG and the lossless stuff.
3. It is a touch player. I was used to having buttons so it took a bit for me to get used to the touch screen. There's the ability to adjust the sensitivity, but i left it on 3 because well, i'm clutzy.
4. There's a nice little screen for showing album art. I am obsessive about the tagging of my music and so I was thrilled to see the pretty pictures.
5. It's a bit strange how to use the interface because there's no buttons. The 'quick setup' manual won't really explain to you about putting things on shuffle, repeat, setting of equalizer, etc. The little CD that comes with it has a PDF manual which explains all this stuff. I would suggest that you read it at least a little bit before you start fiddling around.
6. It's drag and drop which was why I got my first Cowon, why I got this one, and why I will always get one from now on. Most of the MP3 players make you use their software in order to load up the player. This makes me crazy. I will put MY music onto MY player any way I wish thank you very much.
7. The little CD I mentioned before also comes with JetAudio software if you want to use it. I messed with it and it's a decent program, but i have Media Jukebox and didn't want to switch. And yay, I didn't have to! You can sync this with other media players such as Windows Media Player, Winamp. You should NOT try to mess with this thing with iTunes. iTunes encodes their songs with funky DRM stuff that makes some of them play, some of them don't. With JetAudio you can convert the files so that they will play on here but that seems like a lot of work just to hear your music.
8. I have experienced excellent battery life with this. The only time it went really low was when I was lazy and left it in the car. It got cold which will suck the battery. Charge time is about 2 hours i'd say from it being dead. They warn you that this type of battery works best when you DON'T let it go dead.
Things to consider not so good:
1. I haven't bothered to put any video on here and I probably never will. 8GB fills up a lot faster than you think. Additionally this is a tiny screen. For album art fine, for movies no way. If you want a multimedia type thing like that you should get a bigger player. Cowon does have the S9 which is their super fancy player.
2. The volume is not as loud as I'd like. I mean it's loud, but only when you turn it all the way up. The highest volume is 40 and at the gym I have it on 38.
3. The ear buds that come with this are quite terrible (like the ear buds that come with everything). As I said before I have some skull candy ones and they are fine. Don't think that you need some $250 sennheisers or something.
4. Nitpicky thing A) I wish the year was displayed on the MP3 tag. Nitpicky thing B) The display will only show JPG. NO other photo formats. Neither of these things are close to being dealbreakers, but still, these features would've been nice.
Overall I love this player and would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone. It's pluses far outweigh the minuses. This is the second Cowon I have owned and I'm every bit as pleased with this one. My first one was the U5 which i loved but after a year a smash on the floor was the end. So I got this one which is similar but improved. A great, basic player for those of us who need great sound but don't want or need all the extra multimedia type stuff.
Great product!
Cowon audio quality is far beyond any other players I've owned. Features for the price point are great, The iAudio 9 is highly customizeable compared to other brands in the $100-$150 range. I highly reccomend the Cowon iAudio 9.
Great MP3 player but weak on battery
the iAudio 9 beats the best MP3 players by at least 2x in the audio quality and the slim look and light weight touch. however its weakness is the battery.
1. significant improvement of audio quality by addition of 30 pre-set equalizer settings, from rock to jazz, club to rap. while user can select the equalizer spectrum and create their own equalizers, COWON has pre-created 10 audio settings based on generic "psycho-acoustic" preferences.
2. light weight and even more handy. iAudio 9 is slim, about 40 gram (1.4 ounces), extremely light but very comfortable to carry and manage. definitely great for travel.
3. better functional keys and user interface. iAudio 9 applies the same COWON concept of functionality. user does not need to relearn new skills. it significantly improves on its manageability. the function keys are easier to see. user can select the degree of "sensitiveness" or "responsiveness" of the function keys. some reviewers stated that COWON's iAudio function key design "needs some learning to adjust to". this is subjective. i personally find the function key design easy to understand and did not need any "training" or reading of the owner's manual to use the device.
two major areas need improvement;
1. battery power. battery is really WEAK. playing WMA music file setting volume at 2/3 to max, COWON runs at most 8 hours even COWON advertises the device as 29 hours. i9 is really weak in battery compared with i7 which realistically runs about 40 hours non stop (COWON advertises i7 as 60 hours). this makes recharging a daily necessity for i9 whereas for i7, you can go for weeks without need for recharging. long distance international traveler may do better to go with i7 than i9 due to the battery issue.
2. USB cable and USB jack. to conform to the slim design, iAudio 9 uses a tiny USB input jack, smaller than your generic USB jack for external hard drive or digital camera. user has to carry the special USB cable when travel. COWON can provide an adapter so that the device can be plucked into a conventional USB cable.
