Radiator (TM) Wearable Ventilating Computer Case for 13" MacBook by Civilian Lab

4 suction cup arrays on the lid interior allows the case to stay attached to the laptop while it is being used at a desk, in the field, or even in bed, unlike other cases which fall away once opened. The smooth surface of the MacBook leads itself particularly well to this system - the suction cups make a solid connection to the lid without straps or other crude retainers and cannot leave any permanent marks. If the MacBook needs to be easily removed from the case, the ribbon at each suction cup can be looped over the cup to break the suction until it is needed again. This lets it function as a regular sleeve. Fast laptops can get very hot. RADIATOR effectively insulated your lap with 5mm (1/4") EVA foam (material commonly used for shoe outsole). When in open position, the laptop bottom is tilted out of the case (by suction holding the lid) allows air convection to cool the core. Raising MacBook's back also corrects its overly flat typing and viewing angles - improving ergonomics. RADIATOR cools when closed too. A bubble around the hot spot is joined to the x-channels and draws cooler air in while hot air escapes through a vent array. An orange stopper seals the vents for outdoor use and Velcro it into the spare bubble while vents are open. A matte black exterior lends stealthy, elegant looks. The aesthetics mirror the minimalist language of the Apple product line. Inspired by the functionality of "jerry-can" fuel canisters like those used on rugged trucks, RADIATOR's most noticeable visual feature is the "X" truss which gives structure and stiffness to the case. Most computer sleeves are just made to go inside a bigger bag. While RADIATOR does this of course, it also works in 2 other useful modes. It comes with high quality shoulder strap with swiveling snap-hooks and the box-stitched carry handles let you use it like a small shoulder bag. Using Civilian Lab exclusive Squidlock lid retainers while hooking shoulder strap to side loops to create "Work-station" mode.

a great idea
i got this for my macbook pro 13" even though it was made for a 13" white macbook because i needed some protection and portability since i use it for djing in urban areas as a part of the hip-hop ministry at saddleback church. like the other review person said, the suction doesn't work well, probably because its better on plastic, so i put some clear tape on the back of my macbook pro and now it works fine. wish more companies made something similar to this. also nice that it doesn't show off my mac, i'm not one to show off.

Also had problems with the suction cups
I'm seconding everything the reviewer who used velcro said. I suspect the suction cups work great on the Macbooks that have shiny plastic cases. I have the aluminum (or aluminum-looking) unibody Macbook and the suction cups don't stick at all.

I copied his solution and also stuck velcro tape to the top of the computer and to the suction cups to get it to work. Problem solved. One note -- if you do that, you have to really cover the suction cups. I initially tried using small pieces of velcro. The velcro halves stuck to each other just fine, but the velcro wouldn't stick to the plastic suction cups very well. Once I used pieces big enough to cover the suction cups completely, it was good. I stuck much smaller circles to the computer itself -- about the size of a quarter -- and that's working well.

With that problem solved, the case is great. It doesn't add much bulk -- it fits very snugly -- and it weighs next to nothing. And I haven't had to remove it at the airport, which is nice.

COULDNT BE BETTER! BEST CASE!
This cover/sleeve is PERFECT for anyone who cares about their mac! Its an AMAZING PRODUCT!!!! I have been looking for something EXACTLY like this for a year or so now and this is IT! BUY IT! You wont be let down!

What a great idea.... too bad it doesn't really work.
I was looking for a "cover" for my Macbook which would increase its durability, not only when the computer was closed, but also when open. In other words, a "ruggedizing" cover that would always stay on the computer.

The Radiator promised to be just that... So I got one.

Everything about this cover is great... the design, the look, the protection it affords the computer, the access to all the ports, except... the suction cups just don't work. So, the case doesn't stay on like it's supposed to, and then all those other great things it does aren't worth much.

I like the look and protection of the case so much that I decided to adhere high-strength adhesive-backed-velcro TO MY COMPUTER to assist the ineffective suction cups in keeping the case on. This is working for me, and I now get the protection I was looking for, but sticking velcro to their computer is probably not everyone's cup of tea.

Overall, a great concept and great design, this product would be spectacular if only it worked the way it was supposed to.

Excellent Case, Excellent Price
I paid about $55 for the Radiator a couple of weeks ago. I have quite enjoyed having the security and versatility the case affords along with the convenience of being able to use my Ogio messenger bag to carry accessories and other items. The Radiator gives all of the convenience of a sleeve, with significantly greater protection.

The wearable carrying option is quite effective for allowing me to work in transit when a desk is unavailable or inconvenient. The added cooling you get when the bag is opened, along with the accessibility of all of the ports when open, enhances the appeal of using the case.

As an added bonus, I went through airport security in Seattle, WA and Santa Ana, CA (John Wayne airport), and I didn't have to remove the macbook from the radiator.

I would recommend the Radiator to all macbook users. It's a shame they don't make one for the pro.

Cute and functional
This case is not only adorable (and unique), but also practical. It fits my sony tx-7 perfectly. The one side is hard to protect the screen and the other side is soft and stretchy to accommodate the camera. I recommend this case.

Perfect for my Sony Cyber-shot!
I bought this case for my Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W230 and it fits perfectly! The back of the case is hard to protect the LCD screen, and the front is really stretchy and durable. seriously big
if you're ok looking like you're going on a hike in the woods, then this is really a good backpack. it has room for pretty much everything you can think of, it's well-made, easy to get to things, and comfortable to wear. it's just kind of embarassingly large.

Great backpack, great value
I bought this backpack one year ago and wanted to use it well first before writing a review. After 12 months, here it comes: I absolutely love it. I take it to school everyday and on trips as my carry-on luggage. It is perfect for me. My laptop fits in nicely even when already packed in an extra cover. The bag has so much room in it and it is so sturdy. I got a green one (olive green) and it looks really nice. The straps are well cushioned and very comfortable, too. I have already carried tones of books in it but my shoulders never hurt. It has two pockets in the front with zippers which I use for pens, my wallet, etc. The only feature I miss in this backpack is an external bottle holder... it is a great buy.

It's not only wide but extremely long
I am having shoulder pains from carrying my bags only on one side of my shoulders. I am looking for a backpack that doesn't look like an elementary school children's backpack. I am looking for something that looks more like a purse. I thought that this backpack was exactly what i needed but it is too LONG!!! It's constantly bouncing off my rear regardless of how much I shorten the shoulder straps and therefore I get back pains. I think I am returning it.

this backpack is very convenient to use, has its own space for your laptop. and multiple pockets outside of the bag. the only thing I deducted a star for is that there isn't a area to put my charger separate without causing a mess

This bag is very nice but is much bigger than it looks in the picture. It is far larger than necessary to hold a 15.4 inch laptop.

Great case, bad holster
Excellent case! My phone has hit the pavement many times without a glitch. My problem is that the holster is the reason my phone keeps hitting the pavement. The phone pops out of the holster way too easily. A case built to protect your phone should come with a holster that will keep your phone where it is suppose to be. My advice is buy the case and ditch the holster. If the Otterbox came with a decent holster 5 stars would be too low but as it is I can only justify 3.

Major Meh
Lots of hype about the Otterbox but a few things that may make you think twice before purchasing. Having to do the whole baby powder rigamarole to prevent oil slick appearing on screen is a pain. Also screen becomes noticeably less responsive once case is fitted. Raised hole on the back to reveal logo is unnecessary and allows phone to slide around when placed down on a smooth surface. People have also commented that I sound ' far away' when making a phone call now so clarity of calls also seems to be an issue.

Just sayin'.

Best Case available
If you want the untimate protection for your iphone, this is the case to get. Provides great protection for drops, bumps, etc. Has a full cover front sides and back, to ensure overall protection, and the rubber makes it easy to handle and assures a good grip. The only drawback, is it adds a little bulk and the screen protector has sort of any oily appearance. But when using, it does not accect the clarity at all.

Excellent Product
The Otter Box is a great product! I recommend it for anyone who wants a strong protection device for their iPhone. The screen cover does have a minor flaw in that it does not seal well enough to prohibit a blur when touching the screen to operate the iPhone. No problem though because the rest of the unit is so great I didn't really care about the screen and just use a different anti-scratch cover. I have seen a friend's iPhone/Otter Box assembly that didn't have this issue, however, no matter how hard I worked at it I never got a tighter seal when I assembled my Otter Box. Still, don't let this small issue stop you from getting the Otter Box! The naked iPhone is designed like a slippery little fish that flies out of your hand and the Otter Box is the perfect solution.

Do not buy it can cost your your phone!!!!
The case is strong but -- the "baby power fix" for the rainbow causes some problem seeing the screen in the sun. The main problem -->The case (which is not easy removed) prevents the phone from fitting into any other belt clip or pouch and the belt clip the comes with the case does not hold the phone and it falls out easy. I lost my phone in a HomeDepo because it fell off the belt clip and 2 other people in the store had lost there phones the same way. The AT&T sales person has the same case and her phone keeps falling off too. There should be some kind of class action suite about this problem.

Excellent except for one thing
The size is perfect- it holds my Asus netbook,charger and day planner. It is much more durable than the case that came with my netbook, except that it is hard to keep clean. I have to think twice about setting it on the ground at school, etc. I would still purchase it again knowing this.

perfect companion
This case is the perfect companion to my daughter's netbook. it has a big net pocket to hold the power cable, and a flip-out wallet for SD cards. The case is not as hard as I would have expected, but I feel like it provides adequate protection for our purposes.

Cheap and good
This inexpensive case is much better than others that cost much more.

For $9 you get a case that can hold a PSP, at least four UMDs (one in the system), a spare battery, ear buds and a few memory cards. Watch for the rivet issue discussed here. I simply stuck a piece of foam on top of it and the issue was rectified. The only other con is the weak looking zipper but what do you expect for the price? Buy two.

Great case. Excellent value.
When I bought my husband a PSP I looked at cases....knew it would get thrown into his duffel bag or pack along with all sorts of other things and it would need a sturdy case to help it take that abuse. This case is PERFECT. The cover really helps protect the PSP. The pockets fit up to 4 games. It still looks the same today as it did the day I gave it to him. Great for keeping your PSP safe when you are traveling..

Solid, durable but not ideal
Material seems to be very solid so protective function might be well achieved.
There are two very annoying things:
1. In the PSP compartment there is a rivet's head that will surely scratch your psp if not in the protective cover - BEWARE.
2. There are small pouches to store memory or mini headsets. However they are so loose, that each time I open the case, I need to be very careful, not to drop my cards or so.

If these things could be improved I would give this product 5 stars...

I can put the psp along with a couple of accessories in it. The PSP and the accessories everything are safe due to the great quality of the product.

This Item was a gift for my daughter, she tells me that she loves it.

GPS will fit, but not snugly!
I was disappointed with the size of the case. Although the material is indeed very sturdy, the inner dimensions are too large for the 4.3-inch flat screen GPS to fit snugly. Because of the hard surface, and the fact that the unit moves around so much while inside, I would NOT recommend this particular product for carrying said GPS. I bought a Garmin Nuvi 755T, and although it fits, I am not happy with the way it fits. I will probably end up using this for a different item, and purchasing another case for my Nuvi.

Far too bulky for 4.3" Garmin devices.
I bought it for 4.3" display Garmin 255WT. This is far bulkier than other hard cases for the devices. Useful if you plan on carrying the car adapter cord, or a cellphone with the device, otherwise it very over-sized for the device.

Keep your GPS clean and safe.
This case fits my GPS perfect and keeps it clean.The case is smaller than it looks in the picture.It works good to carry and protect my GPS.

The Best Protection & Can Attach To Your Belt
I am totally sold on this case for my Nuvi large screen (4.3). It has a loop with a lock-catch that can be used to loop through your belt or belt loop on pants (or a woman can loop and lock around a purse handle etc.). It provides excellent protection inside and out. The inside has a soft material and protects against scratching and the sides, top and bottom are sturdy-durable and prevent your GPS from being damaged, even if it was dropped. I looked at the softer leather ones but in case one of mine was knocked or dropped they just won't prevent damage well. This one will, I have no doubts. Also has enough storage room for a power cord or window or dash suction cup. It's the perfect size and material for what I need when traveling.

cool and quiet
Cool and quiet. Easy to install. It's obviously very well made as case fans go, not cheap or flimsy. Connects easily to your motherboard's system plug. There's a little adapter with it for some other kind of system plug. The silicon screws are actually these stretchy things you pull through the frame and then the fan until they lock squishily into place. I'm pleased.

Good quality but some noise
This fan is very good quality from zalman but after some hours working it makes some noise and all over working is good.

Great fans
After installing two of these fans to my case it cooled everything about 7c which is great. My cpu runs cooler,my video card runs cooler,and my motherboard runs cooler. I am very happy with this case fan theyre really quiet. The only thing i didnt like about it was the installation of the silicone pins.

Lives Up to Its Reputation But ...
I bought this fan because of its reputation for quietness, and it lives up to that characteristic very well. But installing it with the silicone mounting pins was a real headache. And the installation instructions come with no hints about how to make it easier. Just a drawing -- you know, one those language-free instruction sheets!

The four silicone pins each have two separated mounting slots -- one for the case and another for the fan. The distance between the two slots is what keeps the fan from touching the case and creating unwanted vibrational noise. But stretching and compressing the pins to fit the holes in the case (first) and the fan (second) is anything but easy. Every step along the way I worried about snapping a pin because I had to tug on and stretch them quite a bit to set them into their slots. I used a water-based lube and a small screwdriver to help slip them into place in the case, but the lube also made them hard to hold onto at the other end and tug through the case and the fan. I remedied this by holding on to the pins with a piece of paper towel. Ultimately I was able to install all four pins without snapping one off, which seemed like a small miracle to me. With hindsight I can see that the pins are tough and malleable. They have to be to take the installation abuse.

However, I'm sure that the pros who install these fans all the time have an easier way to do it. Or maybe they just have a lot of extra pins laying around and don't worry about snapping one (which I'm sure happens). I just wish the instructions would have come with some hints on how to make it easier for us "one-time Charlies" to set the pins correctly. And maybe an extra pin in the package would help to relieve some stress.

Great fan for the price
The Zalman fan operates at one of two speeds. With quiet mode, you get 900 RPM. That should be fast enough to give you about 32 CFM of air flow. At 1800 RPM, you can hear the fan, but it's not terribly loud. You would not want that speed in a media center computer, but you'd get about 63 CFM of air flow. Compare that to the cubic feet of your computer chassis and you can see that it's a lot.

I would have preferred a 3 speed fan. A middle speed would work fine for many PCs that are loaded with more than the basic number of peripherals.

Although the fan is not variable speed, the quiet speed in a two fan case would move quite a bit more air than a PC would typically need. You might get 150% or more of the air you need. Slowing down the fan below the slow speed wouldn't save much in terms of noise or power, given that both are low to start with. Speeding up is something you are unlikely to need with that configuration, but you have that option.

If the slow speed is not enough for you and you don't want to hear a fan, look at variable or tri-speed fans instead. If you want pretty colors, this fan also comes in three brightly lit colors. But if you want a basic fan that runs quietly, costs little, and gives you the air flow you need, this is a good choice.

Great case
Great case. Totally protects my iTouch, but leaves ample room to access the volume rockers, headphone jack, and power/dock connector. While some say it's hard to get apart again, I had no problems with it. I only opened it to see how well it protected the back chrome after a couple weeks of use. The back was still flawless. The rubber on the back does a great job in keeping it from slipping and it feels very secure when you're holding it. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a slim case and wants to make sure their iTouch stays in place when put down.

Awesome!
These are durable, non-skid, and my teens use a piece of colored paper to insert between the ipod touch and and back of the cover to create their own artistic flair, changing it regularly so they're never bored with their covers like some of their friends are. Comes with a screen cover too! We are really pleased with this purchase.

Nice kit
This is a nice kit. The included screen protector fits perfectly. Keep in mind that this case is designed to prevent your iPod from slipping off surfaces, not for drops, and it works great for this purpose. Case snaps together solidly, but I would not take it on/off unnecessarily. I was concerned about clearances for accessories-no problem, purchased a ThumbTack mic (also excellent) and it cleared the case with 1-2 mm to spare. Pricey case, but has proved its worth.
