Nicely Made but Failed in 2 Weeks
This Power Supply was purchased as part of a project to upgrade a Dell 4500. Some minor computer case modification was required to accommodate the On/Off rocker switch, which the original Dell P/S didn't have, and to remove the spring loaded clip in the Dell computer case as this P/S will not clip in with the original clip. I also sanded off the paint from a 1" x 1" section of the P/S case where the Dell computer case has grounding fingers to the P/S. I did not downgrade this P/S for those mods, as I expected to have to do some minor mods to accomodate any new non-Dell P/S.

It was significantly quieter than the original, and I'm not sure the 2nd fan ever came on - it's thermally activated and this P/S was never pushed that hard.

The P/S failed after 2 weeks - no obvious toasted components or bad smells, but it's totally DIW. I was able to get the computer running by switching back to the original Dell 250 Watt P/S, so it's not the computer. I could have returned it, but since I had sanded the case in one area to remove the paint for grounding, I felt the warranty would likely not be honored. So I decided to take the P/S apart to try and see what might have happened - that of course completely voided the warranty, but satisfied my curiosity.

Once inside, the unit appeared very well built, excellent looking solder joints, everything nicely heat-shrink insulated, and generally high workmanship. As there were no open joints or solder traces, broken wires or toasted components, I concluded the failure was some kind of component infant mortality, but it's not possible (nor cost-effective) to try and track it down, so I am replacing with another P/S.

I concluded this failure was a typical infant mortality issue on a purchased internal component, and not indicative of the build quality of the Power Supply, which appeared excellent.

I did have to use a 4-pin Molex extender to reach the power input on the graphics card, as the Molex power cables to the CD, DVD and HDD's did not have sufficient reach to get over to the graphics card. If your graphics card has a separate 4-pin Molex power input, you will probably need an extender.

Powers my quad core, nvidia card, and sb sound card with no issues ever. Great cooling power as well.

Installed this power supply, So far so good. Nice and quite even with the 2 fans that it has. Great price. Easy to install and has plenty of power. Hope it last longer than the original power supply that came with my HP PC 2 years ago. May have to install another one in my other PC real soon.

Not for HP/Compaq CPU's
I bought this with the intent to replace a power supply for my HP PC which is around 4 years old. All the plugs and voltages match the OEM one but it doesn't work. It's very quiet and a great looking power supply.

Great Buy
After extensive research and based on the reviews on Amazon.com I opted to the Thermaltake to replace a stock unit in an HP Pavillion desktop. I'm very pleased with it's performance.

Very Inexpensive 400W ATX Power Supply for Dell Dimension
I purchased this power supply to replace the original 230W unit in our Dimension 4600 in preparation for installing a high performance video adapter replacement to drive a 24" flat panel monitor. The desktop already has 2 Ultra ATA hard drives (original 80 GB and 400 GB) and 2 SATA devices (1TB hard drive and dual-layer DVD burner) and the original PS was not going to be enough -- the monitor would blank out for two or three seconds during moderate graphics rendering at below 1080p resolution. The old power PS came out in a few minutes. After unplugging the power and data cables from the devices, I used a vacuum nozzle following/behind a paint brush to remove the dust inside the case, on the devices and components of the MoBo. I also removed and cleaned the case fan and air duct that draws air from the CPU-heatsink and blows it out the back of the PC's case. I used a smaller paint brush to get to the dust that coated the aluminum heat sink. When satisfied that I got all the dust I could remove, the new PS was installed and it fit perfectly. The dual fan design of the new PS is very good -- one underneath to draw air from the case interior into the PS, the other in the standard rear location to draw air from the PS case out the back of the PC's case. Single fan designs don't flow as much air, and the dual fans work together so there is less electrical load on the fan motors. I had the PC up and running within half an hour of removing the old PS. The true test came when I removed the old video adapter and replaced it with an AGP 8x ATI Radeon video adapter that needed a power supply connection for the adapter-mounted fan that draws air over the card's processor and out the back of the PC's case (that makes four (4) fans that draw air out of the PC's case, so dust will accumulate at and around the front of the PC's case where the air is drawn in -- I can feel the draft with the back of my hand). No more blanking out of the monitor at full 1080p resolution running high graphics rendering tasks. The system's been running without a hitch for over a month and a half. So happy with the <$19 + free shipping that I ordered another identical PS for another Dimension used as a file server. Highly recommend this PS as a higher wattage replacement.

Amazing value
This is another part that I bought for my low cost, low use server. As mentioned in another review, the server is used as a private game server, voice server or sometimes a chat server, depending on what I need at the time. The most users I've ever had connect to it was 8, so I've never needed high end hardware. Because of this, a 400w power supply was perfect, not powering anything but a single hard drive and motherboard (low wattage CPU).

For 20 bucks you can't ask for a better work horse. I read a couple negative reviews when I was ready to buy, though they seemed like fluke manufacturing defects resulting in lemons rather than the rule. I'm glad I went with my gut, because the unit I received works perfectly. The interesting part is that even with the two smaller fans the unit isn't very loud (in relation to what it should be).

I wouldn't use this unit in any sort of gaming PC, or high end anything, as 400w isn't very much for today's hardware. However if you're looking for a power supply to get your old computer up and running again for small tasks, this thing is perfect.

Pleasantly surprised
For the money ($20) I half expected it to be noisy, run hot, blow up or just plain not work. Maybe I just beat the odds but I'm using it to power a Compaq Slim Tower. (Lest anyone misunderstand, it doesn't fit unless you're willing to use it as an "external power supply") It's very quiet, runs cool and there have been no perceptible problems.

Works Great !
We are very happy with this Power Supply. Our computer shut down abruptly, and my husband opened it up and found that power was not being supplied to areas needed. We found this power supply, which is the same kind we had, and it works perfectly. It was very simple to install and we have had no problems with it. It was a lot cheaper than buying a new computer.

Piece of Junk!
My daughter bought this charger for her laptop about a month ago and it has already broken! The wire that comes from the outlet to the "box-thingy's" (in her words) plug completely fell apart and no longer works. She claimed she never did anything to make it break. I do not recommend this product to anyone. I wish I had read a couple of reviews before we bought this. Please save your money and buy a different charger.

Broken witin 72 hours
On the second day of use, my child came running to me and said he smelled smoke. The source was a hot charger with black end in the receptacle where the wall plug plugs into the transformer. I would not recommend this product. Evidently you get what you pay for...junk!

happy tentacles
This was my first power supply swap, and I went into it with some apprehension. The standard 450W power supply in my mid-height Gateway fx gamer desktop was still working, but I felt that it was on the low side, possibly rudely stressing my recently failed video card (8800GT). The replacement process went very well. The new 650W works well, and is more than enough for my current system (video 9800GT); even allowing for future video card upgrades, and other computer additions.

My only reservation is that this new power supply has large tentacles (soft conduit covered wires), & some power supply wires that my computer does not utilize; they take up the little space where cooling air used to circulate through the computer case. The power supply case is a bit larger than the old one in one dimension, but still fits if snugly. My older ears cannot hear any power supply sound increase. This power supply may be quieter than the original one.

A good choice for the cost.

this psu is really great i got mine running a phenom ii x4, 4 hard disks,1 dvd burner, 5 rosewill fans 120mm,motherboard m4n82 deluxe asus and my videocard gtx295.

If in doubt, this PS is a good choice
Power supplies have become a commodity item. This Corsair 550vx is a good choice for most mainstream installations, except for very compact enclosures such as home theater PCs. The 550 watt rating is fairly conservative in that it is measured at a realistic temperature of 50 degrees Celsius and has been documented to hold up at power line voltages as low as 90 volts.

Pro: Corsair power supplies have one 12V rail, where most others use two or even three rails. This means that you get to take advantage of all of the amperage that the 550 watt rating implies. With three rails, you can only use the power supply's rated 12V power if you just happen to be able to subdivide your components into three separate groups drawing exactly the same amount of amperage. Not very likely.

Con: As others have pointed out, there is an awful lot of cabling attached to the 550vx. This is good to the extent that the 550vx is versatile and will accommodate full tower enclosures, but it's tough to make a neat installation into a compact minitower like the Antec Sonata. Modular would definitely have its advantages if you don't mind paying more.

My CPU is running a good 15 degrees Fahrenheit cooler after installing the 550vx. This may be due to the 120 mm fan of this Corsair versus the 80 mm fan of the Antec power supply it replaced. Or it may only be due to the fact that I had to reapply Arctic Silver because the heat sink had to come off of the CPU to make room for installation. The exhaust from the back of the Corsair is definitely much cooler than the exhaust from the Antec had been. This reflects the increased efficiency.

Relatively few people will need more power than what this supply can provide. For me, this was a replacement of a PS that had died. The computer has a 2.8 GHz P4 Prescott CPU (widely regarded as power hungry), 3 GB of RAM, three hard drives, a low end GPU, and a full complement of PCI accessories. Maximum power draw on the 120V input is only 230 watts while running the CPU flat out with Stress Prime 2004 Orthos. That translates into an output of approximately 185 watts on the DC side, assuming an efficiency of 80%. You shouldn't need a bigger PS unless you have more than one GPU.

My rating of four stars is due to the unknown status of the rebate. The price vs. performance ratio is only average if the rebate never shows up. I'll edit the review to reflect five stars if I get the rebate in a reasonable amount of time.

Best PSU ive ever owned
I was putting together a phenom II build last year and my local brick and mortar was having a sale on a Cooler Master 500w power supply. It was around 35 dollars which was a steal for that kinda power so naturally I picked it up looking to save a couple bucks. After installing all components, the system was good to go so I booted up. Nothing. Silence. No fans buzzed, no drives booted. As I'm sure you guessed the cooler master was doa. After returning the cooler master I went with a more sound investment. I sucked it up and paid the extra money and I couldnt be happier. Right out of the box the Corsair 750w was impressive. Heavy, solid, beautiful black matte finish (orange text sets it off as well). Even the cables are wrapped in black nylon. And about the cables. There are more than you will ever need. Four 6 pins so any Sli/Crossfire setup you throw at it is no problem. I stopped counting the SATA connectors, there were so many. Sits in the case beautifully and is always cool to the touch. Buy this PSU.

Power Supply Doesn't Work

No instructions included
First off I noticed that several people said that this power supply is loud. I do not have that same problem. My only concern was the fact that instructions/diagrams did not come with the packaging. Instead there was an insert stating that I could go online to access it. This angered me because if I need a new power supply wouldn't that imply that my computer doesn't work? How can I go online for instructions before I insert the power supply? Other than that, I am very pleased so far with my purchase.

Good power supply! Good price!
This is a great little power supply that saved me big bucks. My local computer repair store charge $60.00 for it so I took it back for a refund and ordered the same one for $22.00 on Amazon...Thanks Amazon for keeping the prices real! I was about to just toss the HP desktop out the window...but it's up and running and thank God...XP is in the house!

SAVE YOUR MONEY!
I bought this charger back in October for our Inspiron 1520 (one of the models listed). Its worked fine for the last 5 months. Its always charged our laptop BUT it did get VERY VERY HOT! I mean so hot that it could ruin whatever you put it on. Today, I pluged it into the outlet and into the back of the computer and nothing happened (didn't charge it). I picked up the adapter to see if the cord was properly connected to the middle part and it SPARKED like crazy. I immediately dropped it and am thankful it didn't catch the carpet (or me) on fire. The sparks came from the middle part where the cord is permanently attached to the black box. I guarantee its from the charger and not from our electrical outlet. We have a brand new house with surge protection built in. I will never plug this thing back in nor leave any charger plugged in while I'm gone. Its a fire hazard. Don't buy this if you like your house or your computer! Stick with genuine accesories.

Great for the cost!
This adapter works great! Haven't had any problems of over heating or failing to charge. The only draw back is that the cord is shorter than the original. But when you consider that a universal adapter at Best Buy will cost over $100 and from Dell at least $50, this is an awesome deal! Works great!

Both powers and charges the Dell 1525 laptop
Just received this morning and it was able to power and charge the laptop with no problem. Now at 100% and working fine. This is a solid-built device....meaning it doesn't feel cheap or light for a power source. I will post again if I ever have any issues, but so far it is just what was needed.

REAL Dell charger...powers PC AND charges battery!
This is a REAL Dell charger. A bit bigger than the one that came with my Latitude D630, and uses a 3-prong plug instead of 2 prong, but works perfectly. There are a LOT of junky AC adaptors on the market which power the laptops, but do NOT charge the batteries. This is a REAL charger/adaptor. High quality. Works perfectly. Fair price...so I leave this ALWAYS at my desk at home ready to plug in whenever I use my laptop there, and keep the other (original one) ALWAYS in my laptop bag so I've got it if I'm travelling and need it!

OEM Dell Inspiron AC adapter
I have been very pleased with this power supply. It has been operating every day for the past month since I bought it and it has been working fine. It is interesting to note that this power supply is a full 90W supply. Please don't be fooled into buying the cheaper 60W versions from other vendors. These cheaper 60W supplies burn themselves out after about a month, especially if you are using USB devices that need to draw power from the laptop via the USB port. I know this from personal experience. This supply is an OEM replacement my original laptop power supply, not just a cheaper knockoff.

It works great for such cheap money
I have had this thing for over 6 months and it works great. I don't see why a store would make me pay well over a hundred bucks plus to install when i can buy it here for under fifteen bucks and install myself? i have had no problems with it.

Worked Great
Contrary to the above review, the power supply did have the 20 + 4 adapter. I plugged it in 3 weeks ago and it has been banged on ever since, survived to blizzard blackouts. Great deal for the money.

DOA -> Don't buy this. Spend a little extra on a known quality brand.
Great price but DOA, wasted more time dealing with having a DOA product. Spend the extra 10.00 - 15.00 on a name brand and don't buy this.

Better than expected
I was a little scared to buy this product, but I figured at this price why not. I have had this item now for several months and am now writing my review because I had to test it out before I could give an accurate review. I have no problems at all with this item. As far as I can tell it is not loud. But then again I don't have my computer in a room without any other noise so I really don't care. I installed it on a Compaq Presario with XP Pro and the system has only been shut off one time due to a power outage because of a storm. It works so great in fact that I am ordering another one for a friend's computer. I learned that I need to test some items for myself before I can assume it is not a good purchase. Fortunately this time I did not waste any money with this purchase.

2 for 6 ... Don't Waste Your Time~!

Quiet, good price, but doomed
I was very pleased with this supply; it was extremely quiet, looked good, and the price was appealing. Unfortunately, about 6 months after installing it my system began to crash intermittently. It seemed to be temperature-related, and after ruling out the dual-core micro and the memory I installed a new supply. Problem solved.

So if you get one of these, hang on to the receipt (I didn't). This is the first supply I've lost in 15 years.

Got Scammed
The product description claimed that the power supply has Smart Cable Management which is modular, plug-in wiring harnesses. The one ZipZoomFly sent me however does not have Smart Cable Management. Either the product description was wrong or I was sent the wrong product. Either is unacceptable. Unfortunately I'm stuck with it because the time involved and shipping costs to ship it back exceed the value of the unit.

Like they say fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. I've been ordering online since 1996 and this was the first time I was sent some that wasn't what it said it was on the product description. They won't fool me again however because this is my first and last order with ZipZoomFly.

for 24pin ATX12V MB
Make sure your mother board has the 24 pin ATX12V connector, not a 20 pin.
My mistake of not reading (understanding) the specs does not change the quality of this PS. I had to buy an 24 to 20 pin adapter.
PS works perfectly and it's quiet.

Short-lived
Was very quiet while it worked. Mine lasted about 2 months. I think the problem is that, as previously discussed by another poster, it does not perform at the 500w level. I have a AMD Dual Core CPU, w/ a Nvidia GTS 250 and I'm pretty sure the reason that it died is because it couldn't handle the load. As the previous poster said, more like 300 to 350w range. I'm going to try the heat-pipe 500w PSU...wish me luck...

Works great, does not have a switch to change fan settings like in the picture (and it says it does on the box). Works great very happy with it.
