Great Buy
great mic, easy to use and it has a long cord so u can wire it pretty much anywhere, USB, modern techonology, its served its purpose well.
excellent but they increased the price
I had this one for two years and want to buy one for my father. But they increased its price! I'll still get it because this is the best one after I tried other 3 products.
Great for common use, but has a tragic fail
I've been having this mic for about 6 months, expecting goodness out of it, but holy lolly, this thing failed my expectation of every aspects. Lemme put it together in cons and pros
PROS:
+ Very comfy design, comes with a built in base stand for easy recording and talking.
+ Have a on-off button with a led light, which looks very cool.
+ Can transmit sound from 2 holes, one in the tip, and one on the shaft side :) no corrupted imagination here, people. And the one on the sides look very classy, like those old school mics from the 50s.
+ Easy USB installation.
CONS (PLZ READ THIS PART CUZ THEY'RE MAJOR, MAJOR CON) :
- Bad sound transmitting quality, creating so many statics when used with audio recording softwares. that was just my personal opinion, but seriously guys, if you really need to record your favorite song, buy an ordinary mic with a transferring jack.
- Bad compability with online chatting programs, especially SKYPE. Seriously, Logitech clearly said that it's best to go with SKYPE, but the sounds drop off very often when I tried to talk with my friends online, and they could barely hear what I said. >:(
- The "shaft" will gradually comes loose and the mic droop off often.
- Create some extra minor, but obnoxious confusion. It's the "cool" on-off button I mentioned. The button is pushed down when the mics off, and pops up when it's on. This , maybe hard to explained, but i dare you guys, buy one and try it out.
To conclude my experience with this mic, I wouldn't recommend this mic to anyone. plz don't buy this thing, you wasted [...] bucks, not really much, but it's $[...] people, you can spend on more better things than this.
Great deal!
I ordered this microphone to use with the software from [...] to make podcasts for my students. The price was great! It is so easy to use- just plug it in! The sound is great, too. I had no problem using it with Audacity and getting my first podcast done! There was no software to install and I didn't even have to read the directions! Highly recommend.
I am not impressed
I brought this in order to do jobs over the internet so recording quality was very important. The only way this records is if I have the microphone right up to my mouth. If I set it a inch away it will not record.

acer revo great product
I bought the revo with xp about a month ago and have not turned it off since.I HAVE MY MAGICJACK PHONE EXTERNAL BLURAY DRIVE AND MUCH MORE RUNNING ON THIS LITTLE NETTOP.IVE HEARD ALOT OF PEOPLE SAYING THAT THIS COMPUTER IS SLOW AT LOADING WEBPAGES AND AGREE WHEN USING INTERNET EXPLORER THAT CAME WITH IT IT IS SLOW BUT THERE IS A GREAT FIX FOR THIS JUST DOWNLOAD GOOGLE CHROME AND YOU WILL HAVE BLINDINGLY FAST INTERNET.SO FAR NO PROBLEMS THERE ARE 3 THINGS I RECOMEND FOR THIS NETTOP 1 A WIRELESS KEYBOARD/MOUSE 2EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE AND 3 EXTERNAL CD/DVD OR BLURAYDRIVE.THIS COMPUTER IS THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK AND LETS YOU ADD AS YOUR MEDIA CENTER GROWS.
terrific choice for my purposes
I am very happy I went with the AspireRevo as a main computer for my uses. I am tired of things too big and too heavy. I bought an external CD/DVD drive so I am in business for what I need to use a computer for. I also bought an eSATA hard drive enclosure to put a 320 GB SATA drive from my desktop I moved down the basement to use on the AspireRevo. I am thoroughly happy with it and it boots so fast after moving 1 GB of ram to it from another computer, that I can turn it on just a couple of minutes before I am ready to use it which means I also shut it off when I will be away from it for an hour or more. Helping me to save even more energy. Way better than the Vista machine I moved down the basement.
Great computer - No good for boxee
I love this little PC (with 2GB of memory). It is nearly silent, very cheap to run and can more or less be left on all the time.
I recently discovered boxee. This PC can't render HD video fast enough for boxee. Try watching the Glee season finale on it from the Fox website and you'll see a jerky picture.
Shame but nice nevertheless.
Great performance and size for price
Very well priced. Additional 1 GB RAM module highly recommended. Works perfectly with Boxee installed and connected to your LCD. I should've bought the version with wireless keyboards/mouse. I've replaced my ASUS OPlay with this much more versatile alternative.
HORRIBLE support from ACER
Buyer beware. The support you get from ACER is minimum to none. They require you to call a toll free number and pay $59.00 for 30 minutes, just to find out what memory card is installed in the pc. I have owned mine for two days and after 3 tech calls and 4 emails, I have yet to find out the total description for the memory card installed. I know it is a 1gb and is up-gradeable to 4gb, but can't find out if its a 200 pin or 240 pin, don't know if its a pc2-6400 or pc2-5600. I have researched it and found two different recommendations.
If you call the tech number on the enclosed packet, you get no help. They refer you to the pay for tech help line. If you email tech support you get the standard: We're so sorry but call this number, and they give you the paid support #. They are a joke.
Otherwise, I like the pc. I tested the wattage and it only uses 24 watts which is what I want for my mountain cabin. It is very slow, so I wanted to increase the memory, but so far can't.
I have owned all the top brands of pc's, HP, DELL, GATEWAY, & LENOVO. Never have I encountered such HORRIBLE support. There is no paperwork with the pc to tell you what is in the pc, you go their website and it is not even in their drop down window, you talk to their tech's and they act as if they never heard of a Revo 1600. If you access system info on the pc, it just tells you how much memory is in the pc but now what kind.
I will continue to try to upgrade the memory, but If I don't find out soon, I will be returning it to Amazon. Never again will I ever buy a ACER. So please be aware of their support. Also, my first tech call was to find out the best way to input software since there's no disc tray. I want to install printer software, etc. The first tech said to just put my disc in the disc compartment and load it. I had to explain to him there is only a memory card slot and USB ports. AND, all their support is in INDIA. Except for the PAID support. I am not casting blame on Amazon. They are not responsible for ACER SUPPORT or I should say NON-SUPPORT. Thx for listening. I just changed my stars from 4 to 1. Acer just sent me a email saying the max memory is 1gb. Can you believe them. There's at least 6 reviews here that state they upgraded their memory to 2gb and one to 3gb. I just want to add one more. I see Amazon has one that I can purchase. No thanks to ACER. They stink.
Apple Mac mini MC238LL/A Desktop
Mac mini is made from sleek, anodized aluminum with refined, rounded corners and a pearly white cover. But the power of its design is on the inside: the Intel Core 2 Duo processor, advanced graphics, and more, faster memory. And there?s plenty of storage space - for just about anything. Who knew something so small could be so huge?

An incredible little machine
I've been eyeing this low-end Mac computer for a while, and about a month ago I finally took the plunge and bought it. And in the subsequent time that I've owned it, I could not have been happier with my decision.
I am primarily a Windows user, but have had on and off access to Macs over the years, mostly at work. I am also a big fan of all Apple products, but did not think that I could justify the high price of their computers when I could obtain a supposedly "similar" Windows system for almost half the price. Well, after years of suffering through many, many Windows annoyances that were seriously impeding my attempts to get any work done I decided to finally give Mac a full chance. As I mentioned earlier, so far I have been duly impressed.
The specs for Mac mini are comparable to a low-end MacBook computer. Given that you still need to bring your own keyboard, mouse and monitor, it is unlikely that you will be saving more than $100 - $200 for the whole system. This is still nothing to sneeze at, but if portability is something that you would need then buying a MacBook may be a better overall deal.
Over the years I've accumulated more computer keyboards and mouses than I know what to do with. I tried connecting this Mac Mini to a Dell USB mouse and keyboard, Logitech wireless mouse, and two different Microsoft wireless desktops. Each time I was able to connect and install those devices without a single hitch, and it only took a few seconds for those devices to be recognized and for them to start working properly. In fact, the Microsoft wireless desktops paired up faster with this Mac than they did with my Windows machines.
I also had an old LCD monitor lying around, so I did not need to invest into a new monitor. Be warned though: most older monitors have a VGA input, while Mac Mini has only MiniDisplay and DVI connector cables. In order to attach this computer to a VGA monitor you'll have to separately purchase a Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter MB572Z/A. As with most Apple cables and adapters, this one is somewhat expensive - it costs about $30. In my estimate this is about three times as much as such a cable is really worth, but unfortunately you don't seem to have much choice if you want to connect this computer to a VGA monitor. I really think that Apple should have made this cable a standard addition to the Mac Mini. After all, if you are going to pay a high price of Apple's own monitors for instance, you might as well buy an iMac.
One of the things that impress me the most with Mac Mini is the incredibly short boot up time. Things have gotten so ridiculous with my three year old Windows Vista laptop that my morning routine would consist of me turning it on, going to have breakfast, and then coming back to it to finally use it. The first time I had a completely "clean" boot up of my Mac Mini (i.e. without having to go thorough all the first-time use setup procedures) I was so shocked with how quickly it happened that I literally thought that it was more or less instantaneous. The next time I actually clocked it, and I found out that the complete boot up doesn't take more than forty seconds. This is incredible. I find myself leaving my Windows computer turned on much more than I actually need to use it, because having to go through the whole boot up process (even from the hibernation mode) takes so long that my productivity necessarily suffers. Needless to say, that wastes too much energy. I can finally save some money on my electricity bills by shutting down my computer when I am not using it. This very short boot-up time is especially impressive considering that Mac Mini still uses a regular mechanical hard drive. I shudder to think how fast it would boot if it had a solid-state hard drive.
This machine is incredibly quiet. There is no noticeable fan cooling noise whatsoever. The most noise it ever produces is when a CD or DVD is being inserted or ejected. Other than that it just sits quietly on your desk.
The size of this machine is also incredible. It really is very, very small and the Mini moniker is well deserved. Even on an incredibly cluttered working desk like mine, it still finds enough room to sit.
Home networking was also a breeze to set up with this computer. Most of the computers that I have on my network are Windows machines, but Mac Mini had no trouble detecting them or being detected by them. I was particularly pleased that connecting to my Acer Aspire AH340-UA230N Home Server. In fact, other than not having the access to the administrator console on WHS (which, granted, is a big thing) Mac seemed to be interconnecting with it much smoother than Windows computers. Redmond should probably take a not of this.
Working with various software packages has been extremely smooth as well. This computer seems to have enough power to handle even larger Photoshop or movie editing projects without any major noticeable slow-downs. For most casual users I think the specs of this system ought to be more than adequate.
As many reviewers have pointed out, this Mac Mini would make a great addition to the home entertainment center. Currently I use a cheap Windows Vista PC for that purpose, but that entails dealing with all the bugs and inconveniences of Windows. When you are just trying to watch a movie or listen to some music, you don't want to be dealing with system messages and virus protection issues, and you certainly don't want to have to deal with the rebooting of your computer. Furthermore, Mac Mini is much more versatile that Apple's own Mac TV, and it is not likely that it will become obsolete any time soon, so you'll be able to access all of your media collection for the foreseeable future. The only thing, however, is that I wish Mac Mini had more robust support for various video and audio output cables. An HDMI support in particular would be really nice. Also, Apple still does not support Blue Ray, which may be an issue if you want your Mac to be all-in-one media device.
So whether you want a computer that will do all of your usual everyday tasks, or an addition to your entertainment center, this Mac Mini would certainly be the right computing solution for almost all of those needs. I could not recommend it strongly enough.
Excellent computer. Migrating files from Macs with older OS's may not be so easy.
For speed using heavy-crunching software such as Illustrator or Photoshop, this computer is of professional quality, I'd say. I am a graphic designer, and I've witnessed my files grow in size exponentially over the past 15 years, as has most the industry. We have gone in that time from vector files with a few discretely placed photographic eps's to deeply layered hybrid files that combine Photoshop PSD's in an Illustrator environment, with effects native to both. The files resulting from this method of work can soar over a half Gig with a few hours "imagineering" in either of these programs. I find that this little computer, the Mac Mini, can handle these files at home very respectably, so I can recommend it without reservation for most routine uses. There's a good chance you'll probably never use half the processor's power.
A friendly warning: They say it's easy to connect your previous computer and migrate all pertinent files over to the Mac Mini without any networking knowledge. The promise of this feature excited me, as one who has wrangled with networking and permissions scenarios in the past until I threw up my hands and called in the pros. Well, the jury is still out on this aspect of the Mac Mini, but I will tell you what I know. I owned a G4 running OSX 10.3.9 at the time this computer came. I attempted to use the migration assistant software on the Mac install disk to move all my files off the old computer. It wouldn't work. Turns out (oops -- they forgot to mention!) you have to have at least OS 10.5.something on your present computer to use the migration assistant on the OSX install disk, along with two monitors, two keyboards and two mice -- two complete setups, in other words. (I was switching out the computer only, and had neither spare monitor, nor keyboard/mouse). Lacking this, you are back to attempting to move everything using a firewire connector and target disk mode (rustle up a second keyboard and "Hold down the T on startup", a friend tells me, on the old computer, and it will appear as a hard drive/storage device on the desktop of the new Mac.) --Or I'm back to old school ethernet and networking and permissions "wizardry"; and me without a pocket shield or slide rule. Dang! (Of course, another option which I am mulling is to buy a portable hard drive housing for the old computer's drive, pull it, and move everything over like so. A portable HD would work too. All these solutions cost, however, and I am weighing long term utility of each solution against cost.)
For the moment, I am beat. 'Can't make it happen without another trip to the hardware store. (The G4's firewire connector was 6 pin, and the Mac Mini's is 9 pin, rendering my old firewire cable useless. An adapter I saw on a trip to BestBuy yesterday cost $45 because they "helpfully" included 6 feet of firewire cord with the $8 adapter. -- Nice. This is why brick and mortars are failing every day. One size does not fit all. I can order just the adapter online for under $10, shipping included, if I have the patience and luxury of time to wait a week. You bet I can, for that kind of price differential.)
I wouldn't even mention the migration problem, other than that I want to offer a heads-up to anyone else whose previous set-up might be similar to mine. Bottom line, Macs with older OS's may not experience such a smooth movement of their old computer's files to the new Mac. Even with this one hardware/software oversight (which might be more my problem than the Mini's) I would rate the Mac Mini experience five star.
Edit:
I have nearly completed the migration of material from the old computer to the new in shifts convenient to my schedule. A friend let me borrow a portable hard drive and I am copying everything from the old computer to it, and then to the new mini. It's a little trouble, but I can't argue with the cost, which is free.
Not a Mac fan but I appreciate this product.
As noted in the review title, I'm not a Mac fan. I find the interface much too limiting and Fisher-Price-like. Putting aside why I got a product from a company I don't much like, I'll get onto the product itself...
Overall, it's a great deal. The case is beautiful and well-constructed. It's small. It's silent. It's clean looking. Most of it is recyclable. It's very reasonably priced. It comes loaded with a wide assortment of useful software. The Apple Store supports it and their support is quite excellent and friendly. And the product works exactly as advertised.
In contrast, I bought an Asus EEE Box PC that my mom uses. Its cost is less and is worth much less. In fact, the product cost half as much, but if it doesn't work, it's not worth anything. Asus wouldn't support it, and took more than a month to get back to me, and merchant refuses to take returns. Most important of all, the machine randomly shuts itself off for no reason. Sometimes it doesn't start. In short, it's crap and the merchant who sold it (ANTOnline) is the very worst I have encountered on Amazon and one of the worst I have ever done business with. They ignored two emails requesting assistance and, as noted, wouldn't take the product back.
In contrast, the Mac does what it claims. It does it for a fair price. And, as previously mentioned, it works and the Apple Store offers great service.

Specific items:
My MacMini arrived without the operating system installed. The screen displayed a strange graphical representation with no text. It defied description, which made it impossible for me to get phone support. But, I inserted the system disk, loaded the software, and was good to go. This doesn't affect my rating because I think it was a fluke.
I understand the visual appeal of having the product be simple, with no unnecessary technical feedback, but I sometimes wish I could see a visual indicator of disk activity, so that I could make sure everything was working. Even if the indicator light was on the back of the machine, it would be helpful.
My only real complaint would be the mini-DVI connector. The connector doesn't snap in and there's nothing to secure it. When it's hooked up to the adapter and DVI cable, it can easily pull out. That's not a problem if the machine is rarely moved, of course.
The machine sometimes complains that there's no keyboard because I'm not using a standard Apple keyboard, nor do I have a bluetooth keyboard. Again, it doesn't affect my rating because, for the most part, it does well with a non-Apple keyboard and its software process for noting the type of keyboard is nice. Most importantly, most people will probably use a standard Mac keyboard.
All and all, it's a product I'm comfortable to recommend.
Must Have
I received my Mac mini for Christmas, and I LOVE it. I am coming to mac as a Linux user, so I found that it had "all the comforts of home", as MAC OS X is Unix. Linux users will recognize the terminal shell as bash, the usual shell for Linux. The iLife suite is great, and it doesn't take long to fall in love with these great programs that come standard with it. Also, for students, it comes with a full Oxford English dictionary that I use all the time for school. The only thing that threw me off was that it did not come with the GCC compiler standard, but that was easy to add by downloading and installing xCode which is free from the Apple Developers website. All in all, any Linux/BSD user should be completely comfortable with this, and it doesn't even hold a candle to *windows*. (yuck...)
Beautiful, simple, efficient Mac Mini
I'm going to be short here. I was unsure if this was the best computer for just under $600.00. As soon as it arrived and was plugged in, my fear subsided. Excellent, efficient, I have a Macbook so was thinking of getting a PC desktop, and now am locked in to Mac for life. They work better and are more intelligently designed. If you don't see a follow up comment 3-6 mos. down the line, I'm still a happy customer.

Computing Heaven
I was a 25 year PC user who has switched to MAC for the first time. I am in ecstasy over this thing. Switching has been totally pain free. Do you want to load songs without worrying about conflicts with your anti-spyware, popup blockers? Would you like to download a song or software without having to figure out how to reconfigure the latest version of IE? Are you burned out on glitches with something not working with something else? Are you tired of trojans in spite of having 5 anti-virus programs on your PC? Are you tired of not having enough ram to work on your computer because your anti-spyware eats it up? Do you hate Norton? Is configuring your USB modem a pain? Are you tired of working on your computer rather than working with it? If yes, to the above, get an IMAC. I just burned out on PCS and making the switch was far better than I had hoped.
Setup is a breeze. The hardest thing for me, the former PC user, to get used to was the keyboard commands. I thought I would never figure out how to pop the DVD out of the player. I kept looking for the button on the player itself. It is on the keyboard. (Top right hand funky arrow key on keyboard, LOL). Everything that is normally hard about computers was effortless.
I love it! I loaded Open Office on it and it works like a charm. I don't need MS Office. I got Rapidweaver for web design and adore that as well. I was able to do in 2 hours in Rapid Weaver what it took me 4 weeks to do in MS Expression Web. Without all the MS quirks to boot.
Itunes on my IMAC runs like a dream. What I can't get over are the built-in speakers that come with the IMAC. They are quite impressive for built-in speakers. The DVD player burns better sounding CDs than the one I had before and the one I have at work. (I haven't tried it on my new portable one for my Windows 7 laptop). The CDS sound better on my truck stereo system than the other 2 drives I have used before. Yes, I download music without dealing with a single problem to solve involving computer security. I am in awe over this. I spent 2 hours downloading music and ALL of that time was spent picking out songs rather than downloading the same tune over and over and figuring out why it didn't load and where the heck did it go after I loaded it.
Another thing I can't get over is the quality of programs in iLife. Iphoto is a dang good program. The quality of these programs really make this computer a bargain. You get quality software that work seamlessly together. Stickies is the greatest thing EVER put on a computer.
As for Snow Leopard. Thus far, I have played a few simple puzzle games, created Open Office documents, downloaded music, played DVDs, surfed the web, designed a website, edited photos and have yet had to be formally introduced to Snow Leopard. This is the kind of operating system I like. I don't have to know anything to get it to work. It is entirely possible that we will be strangers for a long, long time and that is just fine with me. I knew more about XP and Windows Vista and 7 than I ever wanted to know.
I love the touch of the keyboard. It is superior to every other computer keyboard I have used. I love the Magic Mouse. I don't miss cords. With this computer, you don't get the numeric keypad and if that is a problem for you, you need to order the Apple keyboard with it.
My mediocre internet connection runs significantly faster with this machine. I no longer have to read my gmail in classic mode for slow connections. Loading my Verizon software which can be a pain was a breeze. It works a thousand times better than it does on my laptop and netbook.
Watching movies is a dream because the monitor is excellent HD and the 21.5 inch is more than enough for me. Perfect for watching movies.
All my photos that were saved onto a flashdrive from my PC loaded without a glitch onto the IMac. I was stunned at that.
The quality of the software that came with it makes the thing a bargain. If I gotten comparable software elsewhere, it would have jacked up the price of a pc by several hundreds of dollars and it still would not have worked as fluidly. Editing photos is an unbelievable experience and playing DVDs makes Media Player look like such an amateur.
This, folks, is love. Next to my Kindle, may be the second greatest material possession I have ever owned. The Kindle is still first place.
But, the single, very best thing about this computer is that you don't turn it off unless you are going to move it. It goes into sleep mode. Not the HP type sleep mode where it never wakes up again but a sleep mode that it comes out of very fast. So, when you want to use your computer, you don't have to turn it on and wait, and wait and wait. You don't have to turn it off. It just goes to sleep. That fast. That simple.
Amazon, as always was flawless. Ordered, it was shipped, it arrived, no problem.
Why didn't I do this before?
Mac is the best of the best.
I upgraded from a g4. I loved it too. I had it five years with no problems. This computer is great and I have no problems with it. I have had it for over a month and it is up to what is told about it. No doubt mac builds the best. mac puts all it own components into
the computer that makes it work better no problems with the drivers.
It does run a little warm. but this seems to be normal. Not easy to work on. buy the protection plan. I do not think you will need it worked on if you treat it right.
The ordering experiance was terrible, I ordered the 1 and received 2 amazon then charged me a restocking fee, I wouldn't order
This was a terrible purchase decision, I ordered 1 Mac and received two. After ordering the Mac the next morning I checked my email to see that amazon had shipped me 2, tried to cancel shipment but was to late. Upon receiving the Mac's I brought one back to the pack and ship (unopened) and sent back with the lables amazon gave.
I then recieved an email from amazon stating that I was only gettting parcial credit on something I didn't order.
I would never order from them again, I think its a skam.
Tech Envy Generator
I gave a great deal of thought in acquiring a new desktop. I wanted something that would run Adobe CS4 without breaking a sweat AND without breaking the bank. I looked at several all-in-ones to that end and read many reviews. Also, I wanted something that would leave my desk free of clutter allowing me to spread my work out in front of me, with my tablet, my keyboard, mouse, etc and not have a ton of cords running down to a box blowing hot air onto my feet. Finally, it needed to have a vibrant display that would be easily paired with a second monitor. My iMac did all of these things admirably.
Using an adapter, I paired it with a 2159m 21.5" HP Monitor. I had to use a small platform to raise the monitor to the proper height. Both devices go together well and have comparable screen quality. Yeah, the iMac is noticeably better, but the price of the 2159m speaks for itself. Also, my Wacom Intous4 medium pen tablet scaled perfectly to the screen using the toggle function to select the iMac's display. Everything I connect to my iMac from scanners, to printers, to peripherals "just works" as the saying goes.
This machine runs very hot. From all indication this is normal and I even read about a fellow overseas who's only possession to survive his house fire was an iMac of relatively the same make. Yep, he was able to even switch it on in the aftermath. Also, it is very quiet. Utterly ruined me it has, making other computers sound dreadfully noisy by comparison. In all my use of the thing, the only time I had an error message was when I went to Apple's site and tried to use Safari to watch one of their commercials after clicking the HD option. I chuckled when Safari crashed interacting with Apple's own site. It loaded up on the second try, and had no trouble afterward, since, and hopefully into the future.
My Goodness, it is WONDERFUL
I know saying this is sort of getting old, but I've been a Windows/PC guy for many years. Early last year I purchased a MacBook Pro 13" with the backlit keyboard. I could tell from my using it all these months that Apple really pays attention to details. About 6 months after that I ended up buying a Mac Mini, once again a great little machine, which I bought the low-end model and upgraded the memory and ram. Recently made it a media machine, so now I was in the market for a replacement.
I started reading about and watching videos of various people buying the iMac. I checked out the specs and opted for the model with 3.06gb processor, ati radeon hd with 256gb ddr3 dedicated, 4gb memory and 1 terabyte hard drive. Though I knew these things came with a 21.5" LED backlit display I was simply not prepared for what I saw when I turned it on.
MY GOODNESS this setup is a thing of beauty. It is quiet, fast, video looks beautiful, text is great. I read in one review maybe on another site where folks were saying these type LED wide monitors were just not good for text. I have to say that is simply not true. I read a lot and I write a lot, this thing is fantastic for both.
I highly recommend this model. Yes I could have got a lot of Windows/PC for the $1,449.99 I spent on this iMac, but none of them would have had the same user experience or beautiful attention to details. The wireless keyboard and magic mouse are a total joy to use. Setup took less than 5 minutes, turn on the mouse and keyboard, hit the power on the iMac, your done. By the way if the extra $300 is a bit hard on your budget, the nVidia integrated graphic model with the 500gb hard drive would also be a thing of beauty for you. I went low-end on my mac mini, decided to go middle of the road this time around.
If you need a computer system, I'd say look no further than this. If in the last year I could make the switch over to Mac and now with 3 Mac computers, I'd say anything is possible. If you give these things a fair trial and get beyond the initial light learning curve, you'll enjoy them as much as I do.
A buddy of mine said something to me the other day after I took overnight delivery of my iMac for $3.99, (GREAT JOB AMAZON as always) He said.. Once you go MAC you never go BACK. I believe that! hehehe!

It's Beautiful
When deciding whether to buy the new iMac, I was bothered about some reviews that concerned the reflectivity of the glass-covered screen. After seeing the iMac at a local big box retailer, I took the plunge and ordered. And, wow! My iMac looks far better in my home office setting than I expected, and glare/reflectivity isn't a problem at all. (My iMac is adjacent to a window but doesn't pick up any reflected light from it or the room.) Colors are rendered beautifully, graphics look great, and I couldn't be more pleased with my decision.
Long time Mac hater finally gave in
I've been strictly a PC guy for as long as I can remember (only used Macs in college writing labs). Since graduating from college over 14 years ago I literally have not used even one Mac. I was pretty much anti Mac because I thought they were over priced, underpowered and Steve Jobs really got on my nerves. I mean, for the money you could get a faster, more feature packed PC for much less. I was also concerned about compatibility with PC files and software.
Well, now that I've matured some, gotten over my childish hating of Steve, and had to decide on a new PC for our family to use, and Mac now has PC emulation software, I reconsidered. My first reaction was to get another PC and continue along my merry way as I've always done. When I started my shopping I thought what the heck, let me check out the latest Macs on the apple Web site. I was blown away by the new iMacs. I ended up spending about 2-3 hours over a few days looking at the iMacs and reading reviews around the Web.
Long story short I finally got my iMac. It was a tough decision because I was purchasing one of these things I thought was overpriced and underpowered years back. The specs on these new iMacs got me intrigued. I'll admit, the large screen and all-in-one form sold me. The Core 2 Duo and 4GB ram was decent enough for me to give it a try. In short I am VERY pleased I bought this computer. It's outstanding. Pros and Cons:
Pros:
- Design: This all-in-one design is absolutely better than any other all-in-one out there. Just a stunning screen, keyboard and a mouse (and no large brick connected to the power cord!). When I took the thing out I was looking for the other "components". Simply refreshing. How can Apple create such a slim, light and usable machine while HP, IBM and the others produce these clumsy all-in-ones?
- Screen: Just one word: amazing.
- Ease of use/setup: It's obvious these Apple guys really think about what users go through from the point they open the box, to the point they start using the computer. The process was so simple and easy. This old PC guy was almost looking for warnings or errors to pop up or something. Well done.
- Login process: OS X boots up so quick that sometimes I sit there waiting for the computer to do the hourglass thing like a PC. But it doesn't. You log in, you see the main screen shortly thereafter and you're ready to go. It almost seems wrong. Doesn't this thing need to boot up a bunch of stuff to get going? Apparently not. Also the clean layout of the icons on the bottom of the screen with no other pre-installed craplets or other desktop icons is such a refreshing change vs PCs.
- Software: I will hold off on commenting here until I've spent more time with the installed and purchased iWork software. Can't wait to get my hands on Garage band. My kids and I will have a blast.
- Keyboard and Mouse: Keyboard is so sleek and small you'd think it was a toy. It takes a bit of getting used to because some of the keys you'd find on a PC keyboard are missing (the back space and delete keys are the same key...use the Fn+delete to do forward deleting of characters). All in all though, not a problem. I haven't gotten used to all the multifunction keys yet, but I'm assuming these other cool stuff I can do with it that I'll figure out later.
- Magic mouse: One word: Schweet! I'm using it now to easily scroll through this comment I'm writing.
- Speed: So far haven't done any real heavy lifting with it like movie editing or MP3 encoding/transfers, but my Web browsing and video watching are blazing. And overall system response is excellent. Will report back as I use the system more over the next few weeks/months.
- Integrated with my home Wi-fi without a hitch. Even automatically found the drivers for my HP All-in-One printer. I didn't even have to download the Mac driver or anything.
- Oh, and it's real quiet too.
Cons:
- Screen can show a lot of glare. This can be a problem for some folks and in certain room settings
- Could have gotten a unit with more ram and faster processor if I got a PC. But to be honest, given my experience so far with this thing, I really don't care. Technical specks aint everything. User experience is important as well. I guess a gamer would care though. But they can get the 27" model with the intel i7 processor.
- PC guys have to learn some things like how to cut, paste, undo, use safari, navigate around the OS, etc.
- That's all so far, will report back over the next weeks/months with new issues/concerns.
In summary, I am one happy customer. We still have two PCs in the house and I'm still a PC guy; but check back with me in a year or so -- that may change.
Hey PC guys/gals out there...you will not regret buying this thing. Go ahead, do it.
Very nice surprise.
My problem with Apple was that I didn't know if you could even surf the internet, have a mail account or do anything else I used to do on a pc. All the info that Apple itself gives you really doesn't tell you these basic things that I realize are obvious to most, but they weren't at least to one.
When I got it, all I had to do was plug in the power cord and the ethernet cable and I was ready to roll.
I liked just about everything that I looked at. It was very quick, very easy to use, and the magic mouse is too cool!
It seems like that if you do have a little problem, it was hard for me to solve them without calling AppleCare. I feel very comfortable that I will get everything figured out in a short time.
All in all, It is a beautiful machine that works very well. And I don't miss the boxes that ask me if I want to contact Microsoft about the multitudinous errors. The color and sound are great.
A Real Gem
Like a lot of people, I end up taking my work home with me a lot of days. So, I was looking for an enjoyable computer to do a little editing on in the evenings that doesn't take up a lot of space. Well, I found it!
The iMac 21.5 inch desktop fits the bill to a "T". For those not familiar with Macs, there is no tall tower where the hard drive sits- its all contained behind the screen. And the screen- wow, I don't think I've ever seen a more colorful, luminous one around.
So if you're looking for a new Mac, or are a first-time Mac buyer- get it- you won't regret it!
Beauty flawed by a freckle
When my PC died recently I finally decided to try a Mac. It is a thing of beauty in many ways. Except for a very frustrating password problem that took the Geek Squad almost an hour to straighten out, the setup was easy. Everything worked fine except one thing. That one thing is very important to me. The audio output using AOL's Instant messenger is indistinct, scratchy, and very very low volume. I did all the things available in the menus to correct this. A friend brought in his windows laptop and hooked it to my DSL cable, called my distant friend, and audio & video were reported as being fine, indeed, a bit too loud. Something was wrong with the signal Mac was sending on that wire.
I called Apple Tech Support and was pleasantly surprised at how soon I was talking to an actual English-speaking human. I was equally surprised by their complete inability to help me. After 4 calls, and doing each of the 4 remedies proposed, the 5th rep agreed that the problem remained and told me that I could send the machine to their repair facility (300 miles away) at my expense where they MIGHT fix it. My estimation of the much lauded Apple reputation evaporated at that point.
Unfortunately, when my old computer died, buying a new one from Amazon was not an immediate option. So, I bought the Mac from a large local retailer. I have learned that lesson the hard and expensive way-- within an hour of talking to that last Mac Tech person, I had a laptop almost identical to my friend's on order for one-day delivery from Amazon.
Since i fiddled around more than a month with the Mac I can't return it for refund. I will put an ad in the local paper and (honestly representing this single defect) will probably be able to sell it, at a loss, of course.

The best and fastest computing desktop ever bought!
This is by far the best pc I've bought in the past ten years. Recently, I got rid of my Dell--it's getting slow and somewhat problematic. After some diligent search, I bought the Acer AX1301-U1312 with triple core, 4GB Ram, Nvidia Geforce 9200 with 256MB, 750 GB sata hardrive, ...seemingly a great bargain plus the excellent reviews. However, the first one I got had a defective Optical drive, the second one occasionally had nonresponding problem and made pretty loud noise when AND after burning dvds--the second one has no hardware problem but there maybe some configuration or program conflicts (no idea) that caused the not non-frequent freezing. Finaly, decided to buy this Compaq for both its price and good reviews. It turned out to be a complete satisfaction!! :) Couldn't be happier. It runs even faster than the triple core Acer. I have stayed away from Compaq for almost a decade because of my first bad experience with it. Now they have definitely improved their product quality.
It plays HD video flawlessly. Very light for its size. Quiet when running regular programs. A lot of space inside the unit which makes hardware upgrade easy.
Things I do NOT like: many useless programs, 6 USB pors--4 back and 2 front, dvd drive Eject button is awkward--when the tray is open, it blocks access to the button. You have to slip your finger under the tray to press close.
Overall, it is a great value!
great machine for the money
Good speed and no more freeze ups like my old computer. I was upset tho that I was not informed that my printer will not connect to the back ( I guess I have to buy an adaptor) This is a great product tho and I am very happy with it.
somewhat capable
Have just had this computer up and running a mere two to three weeks but I am very happy with its performance so far, a few items have not been able to download from my previous computer as it was a 32 bit but I guess that is just a small problem otherwise am pleased with the speed of this computer and the fact it has windows 7 home premium which seems to be a good OS, will know better once I have been using it a while longer, Thanks Tiger D.
Mostly good ; some bad
I have owned a Compaq prior. One thing I do not like is the DVD tray. When it opens, you have trouble pushing the button to get the thing to close again. In the open position, the button is blocked by the tilting tray. I have to use a letter opened to push the button. I also had some problems getting my HP printer to interface with this HP machine. But I went to the HP website and was able to download the patch after a few tries. Other than that, I am happy with the machine and would recommend it to others.
I added a video card and 1 more gig for more power.
I bought mine for 350.00, added a basic 1 gig radeon video card, and went for another 1 gig of ram. I had to take out the 1 gig slot and inserted a 2 gig stick of ram (about 50 bucks for the ram and 52.00 for the video card. The computer seems fast enough out of the box, but I wanted full power so that I could edit videos. The only better configuration for the price I could find were refurbished computers, but you don't know what chance you are taking with those, broken plastic parts, etc....There was no need to change the power supply because I did not go for a high end video card that needed more juice to run.

Very Impressed
Looking for a computer for the front desk of a medical office, I was at first hesitant to buy this lesser name brand computer over competing brands like HP and Gateway. After carefully reviewing this computer, though, I realized that it was a great deal for the price and that it would fulfill all of the requirements I needed for the office.
A week after receiving and setting up the computer, I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised at how well it runs. Setup was simple, as was installation of Windows 7 (the PC comes with Windows XP, but I upgraded to Windows 7 Professional). The monitor is beautiful, and the all-in-one design saves a lot of space.
I am very happy with this eMachines product and will probably stick with this brand the next time I need to replace one of the computers.
no more dangled cords!
I love my new all-in-one computer! It's sleek looking and functions very well. Nobody would have guessed it's less than $400. By the way, it also arrived in a relatively small (but sturdy) box. So no wasted packaging there. I'll only purchase all-in-one computer from now on.
excellent
purchased this computer 1 week ago and absolutely love it. space saver and excellent value for the price. highly recommended

Don't waste your money.
I was hoping to use this as an alternative to canned air, but alas, it has next to zero power, whether being used as a vac or to blow air. It just doesn't generate enough power. I was also trying to avoid a vac because I'm concerned about static electricity and wanted to avoid it, for the most part. My suggestion: Buy canned air or a high-end vac/blower with POWER and wear a anti-static wrist strap!
Not powerful enough
Neither the vacuum or the blower is powerful enough to dust a computer. When I tried it on my keyboard, no crumbs were picked up. The vacuum had essentially no power. I recommend using a CO2 cartridge based blower instead.
Doesn't suck, or blow.
Wasn't exactly what we'd hoped for... not often we get to say this, but we didn't like it because it doesn't really suck. *grins*
We tried both battery and plugged in, and couldn't get it to pick up ANYTHING at all. Couldn't get it to blow very much, either. It sits in our closet, worthless, while we continue to use compressed air cans.
Cool!!
Great product only one flaw. It doesn't come with a bag so you have to order seperate.
Electronics/computer vacuum
Well this was probably the biggest waste of money I ever spent on a computer. There is LITERALLY NO SUCTION. It will not pick up a piece of dust, a paper flake, a piece of salt. It's THAT weak. And the option where you switch the small attachment to the air outtake part of the vacuum and use it as a blower...well that is equally weak, lame, and useless as well. Trust me, take your money and buy a few cans of compressed air. It cleans much better (well anything would clean better), and you can actually see, and feel it blowing the dirt away.

TouchSmart software buggy
I had high hopes for this product. Other reviews said that the HP touch software made this the touch screen to get over Sony. The product was easy to set up and I was up and running in no time. I started playing with the TouchSmart apps right away. It was a little sluggish but acceptable. The Hulu app kept telling me that there was an update. I would select update and the new hulu app would download and install. Next time I went into hulu the same thing happened...over and over. I spent over two hours on the phone with HP tech support. Very nice people but they could not solve this issue. They had me re-install the OS and it still happened. I went to google and there seem to be many folks with this same issue. I decided Hulu was not all that important right now.
This morning I get a notification that there are some TouchSmart updated from HP and would I like to install them. Sure. I initiate the updates. After about 10 minutes I get an alert that setup.exe could not be found. Please make sure that it is where it is suppose to be. The updates failed. I guess I can try to resolve but this is starting to feel more like a science experiment and not a finished consumer product.
Perfect Gift for Mom
Bought this as a birthday gift for my mother, who wanted something to (1) check email and (2) update her iPod. She is not a computer person. I hoped by getting her this, and having it stuck on a kitchen counter, she'd use it to do those things, and maybe venture out to do more.
Mission accomplished. She's using it on a daily basis--video calls on Skype, playing video games with my niece (her granddaughter), playing videos on Hulu...you name it.
Its lack of portability is actually a plus. A laptop is easy appropriated by others in the household. Same thing goes for lack of video inputs. Nobody is hooking the 360/PS3 up to this. This is mom's computer.
It is also used daily by my niece--age < 8. The "bloat-ware" games apparently come with a sticker shock after a few trys, so beware those of you with young kids. Refusing to pay $20 for polar bear bowling to a child who's really into it ain't fun...but the price is just too outrageous.
Couldn't be happier with the purchase. Never thought I'd be receiving video calls from mom. We feel like the Jetsons!
Oh and it's a touch screen by the way!
Very nice, well constructed product. The best reasons for getting this would be the looks and all-in-one integration. Otherwise, you could piece together a traditional desktop with similar specs for nearly half the price. I hardly ever use the touchscreen so that part was a bit of a waste. Nevertheless, it's not that expensive for amount of value it delivers.
Dont waste your money on a TouchSmart PC!!!
HP TouchSmart 600 review. I can only blame myself for buying something trendy and cool looking. Flys and bugs are attracted to the screen and can open docs by landing on it so if you live in the country this is not the PC for you. What a hassle. Also I purchased 2 of these and 1 of the screens is dramatically distorted after only 6 months of very light use. You can buy a very good computer for this kind of money and I suggest you keep looking. HP brought this to market way to early and the design and function needs a few more years for them to get it right and unless HP can get Steve Jobs and Mac's design team to come work for them I would avoid this purchase at all cost. Works well for movies as it far better suited as a TV! Bad for business PC and the system should be renamed TouchDumb.
Love HP!!
Before I ordered this, I was looking at an Acer touchscreen but it did not have a large enough hard drive and did not come with a tv tuner. I love that feature about this computer, as I sit at my desk all day and I like to watch some shows. I can turn the TV on, have a small box open at the top of the screen, work away and still enjoy my shows. The Touch Screen is great even though I don't use it that often for work, my granddaughter loves it for her games. I highly recommend this computer to anyone interested in fast, big screen, TV tuner and touch screen! HP products are the best in my opinion..
