Great Everyday Computer
This is a great laptop for everyday computing. It's not a powerhouse, but still very nice. Media center is great, with netflix you can stream movies right to your laptop. I'm not sure what the other reviewers problem was with his wireless connection. I'm guessing his wireless card had some issues. I connected to my network within minutes of completing the set-up. I would recommend this laptop to anyone looking to watch movies, listen to music, browse the web, or any other everyday computer stuff. Also, there is a jack to hook this computer directly to your TV, so you can watch your high def movies on the big screen.

Why not 5 stars? No Bluetooth.
A fantastic mid-range laptop. Great for college students.
Not too long ago, I needed to buy a new laptop computer since my old Dell computer nearly died. (There was some sort of hard drive problem that would only allow me to start up in 'safe mode.') After scouring Amazon for several days, I decided upon this Toshiba Satellite computer. It seemed like the best value for the money I was willing to spend.

Pros:
Big screen -- This is great for watching movies in true 16:9 ratio. The screen is also really bright so you won't miss any details.
It has a number pad -- I really like being able to use 10-key typing to enter numbers in documents and web sites. Having a number pad is surprisingly necessary.
Fast start-up / Fast wake-up -- This computer has enough resources to start up quickly from an off state. The start-up feels like it could be a little bit faster, but, again, it is still significantly faster than my old Dell. I usually don't put my computers in hibernation mode when I walk away for any extended period of time, so I can't critique that feature of this computer.
Stylish -- This computer looks sleek and sophisticated. It is a real joy to look at.
Generous system resources -- This computer has 4GB of RAM and 500GB of hard disk capacity. It also has those new Intel processors that feature "hyper-threading" technology. Since Windows 7 is a system hog, a new laptop should at least have 6GB of RAM, but 4GB seems to be just fine for this machine. I can switch quickly between programs, start programs quickly, and end them quickly, too. A 500GB hard disk is just an astoundingly huge amount of storage space. There is more than enough space for photos and movies.
The mouse-pad -- I don't know how Toshiba did it, but the mouse-pad is the coolest feature of the laptop. The mouse-pad looks like it was spray-painted on top of the plastic shell. It also works really well AND it offers multi-touch functionality. If you need to increase the size of the font on a web page, all you do is spread two fingers on the mouse-pad. It is actually pretty damn cool.

Cons:
Atrocious speakers -- OK, the worst feature in this computer are the absolutely horrible speakers. The sound that comes from them is tinny and without depth. I find it interesting, to say the least, that Toshiba would have a mid-range computer with decent hardware specs but include insufficient speakers. Whoduthunk?
Not enough ports / Bad port locations -- Again, for the amount of hardware specs this computer has, Toshiba only included 2 USB ports. The laptop shell is spacious enough to include 4 USB ports without any problems. My old Dell laptop had 4 USB ports. Also, the USB ports and power DC-in locations are really inconvenient: They are located on the right side of the machine. Most people are right-handed BUT protruding cords interferes with desk space which, in turn, limits the space that most people might have because of the locations of the ports. The USB ports and DC-in power port should be re-located to the back of the machine.

Other details:
The computer is finished with a matte black plastic shell. Just so you know, matte (any color) shows off every single speck of dust and finger print! After I type this review I'm going to wipe down the whole machine with a clean cotton cloth. Also, the keys are matte black, too, so they really show off finger prints! Don't laptop manufacturers know that laptops are dirty machines?! This laptop also weighs 6lbs. For me, it isn't heavy, but for others it might be too heavy.

Final thoughts:
Overall, I really like this laptop. It has plenty of resources for a multitude of applications. I can play some graphically intense games without too many problems. It has plenty of processing speed, RAM, and hard disk space for just about anything you can throw at it. This is a great all-around mid-range laptop. The only reason I didn't give this laptop a 5-star rating is because there simply are not enough USB ports, and the locations of the ports should be on the back of the machine instead of the right side. The speakers are also sub-par for what could have been included.
fast machine
Nice looking, fast machine and 649 is very good price, although OfficeMax was selling it at 579 couple of weeks ago.
It has 11n which is good since I can get wirelessely connected even from my back yard.
Win7 is more secure and there are less chances of getting affected by virus and spam softwares.
Very good laptop...
This laptop is really great. I mean, if you consider the price, you'll know what I'm talking about. Toshiba is a very reliable brand. No problems with the Wi-fi at all.
Good laptop for the price
I got this laptop about 1 week ago, and I am generally pleased with the quality. Everything worked smoothly out of the box, and it's been working flawlessly with my wireless N D-link router. Toshiba's functions key controls for hibernating, changing video output, etc are well designed and intuitive to use.

On the minus side, the speakers are a bit tinny sounding. The video output is adequate for casual movie viewing, but will not satisfy someone looking for HD like video. This notebook has integrated graphics without a discrete video card and would not support high end games with 3D graphics. I also could not get an older game like diablo 2 to work. Additionally, Toshiba does note recommend trying to upgrade the video card (although it's possible), and doing so would void the warranty.

On a side note, I tried this computer with Toshiba Dynadock and did not find the speed sufficient for smooth operation. I would not try to dock this computer, or in general any computer that is not designed to be docked.

Overall, this is good computer for the price. It will be good for work and casual video viewing, but do not plan on playing games or using it for watching high quality video.

love it
It is handy when I need it outside my house
, and it is very fast.
The right choice of mobility
First of all it is a very lightweight laptop(it's not a netbook), but the CPU installed can provide you substantial power. It is clear that 11z is not intended for games (due to built-in intel graphics), but the other parameters in W7 experience test says it is good for internet, programming and movie watching. For those who would like to use linux on it (especially RHEL\CentOS or OEL): there are some problems with using built-in NIC Atheros 8132 (wired) in linux distros, cause it don't works from the box you need to install kmod-al1c from one of the repos.
Great so far
After years of owning various Apple laptops (and swearing by them), I finally ventured back into the PC world, and so far I am very happy with the result.

What I like:

- Light weight: This laptop is so light that it fits into my work purse and I barely notice the weight. I can carry it everywhere with me.

- Long battery life: The 6-cell battery life is very long, about 6 hours or so on powersave mode, which means I feel comfortable not always carrying the charger around.

- Window 7: they copied a lot of features from the Mac OS, with no complaints from me. So far I find it very intuitive, elegant, and easy to use.

- Trackpad, scrolling: another feature they stole from Apple, but I love scrolling without having to hit any buttons. Bravo.

- Keyboard: might be too small for some, but perfect for my relatively small hands.

- The cost: really can't complain here, and one of the main reasons why I switched back. This computer costs less than half of what a Macbook with similar specs would have cost.

- Fast processing speed: I don't do anything that complicated on my computer, just Internet, word processing, reading pdf files, and downloading photos. It is lightning fast for all these purposes.

What I dislike:

- Trackpad, zooming and the cursor: The trackpad was not so responsive until I set it manually. The pinch-zoom feature drove me crazy until I figured out how to turn it off.

- No DVD drive: I thought that this wouldn't bother me, but it turns out that I miss being able to play DVDs and rip my CDs, etc. So I got an external drive pronto. I think on balance, I prefer having the drive inside the computer, but I do appreciate the light weight, so maybe this one is a draw.

- Screen: a bit small, but it's fine.

- The battery protrudes: the computer doesn't lie flat, which takes a while to get used to.

Overall, I am very, very happy with this computer, as evidenced by the fact that I take it with me everywhere even when I don't need to. Bravo, Dell, for converting this Apple convert back to Windows.
Excellent price/performance
I received this laptop (can't really call it a netbook with a dual-core and 4GB of RAM) last week after about a week of deliberation over the other options out there. In this 11.6" range, there's a pretty limited number of models to compare. If you're willing to pay another hundred dollars and up, you could get a faster processor. Likewise, you can find a cheaper laptop with a celeron or atom processor. At this price point, however, this laptop really does stand out.

The trackpad does take some getting used to, but most of the complaints about it (like the zooming gestures) can be disabled in a few seconds. The battery does stick out pretty ridiculously, but I would gladly trade that for the 6+ hours of battery life. The video card is very basic, but once again this is a sub-$500 laptop in a very slim form factor. Overall, the pros outweigh the cons, and I'm quite happy with my purchase.
WOW! This laptop is tha BOMB!
I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy a store bought netbook or a bulky laptop. I thought with a netbook it's small, compact, lightweight, popular, cute, up to date, blah, blah, blah. I even tried one out at a store, but the darned keys were so small, I was havin trouble testing it out. I went online and checked on Amazon like I always do and to my surprise, this lil beauty was available. NEW! I clicked BUY NOW!! No second thoughts or regrets. I love it. It's fast, and just as lightweight as a netbook. Not as bulky as a laptop and it even fits in my carry all bags. The wireless card picks up signals right away and the ZOOM IN & ZOOM OUT feature with the pinch of my thumb and index finger is just like having an iphone, my next purchase if they keep that up..lol Buy This Laptop!! Peace!

Apple MacBook MC207LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop
The MacBook uses a graphics processor that economizes space in a whole new way. A traditional computer logic board contains multiple components: the CPU, two chips that control communication throughout the computer, and the graphics processor. The logic board in the MacBook contains only two components: the CPU and a graphics processor with all of the core logic built into a single chip.Open your MacBook and you're instantly greeted by glorious full screen brightness. Anything you view, including the glossy widescreen display itself, is a spectacular experience. The LED-backlit display is more power efficient. And it's mercury- and arsenic-free, so it's greener than ever.

LOVE MY MACBOOK
I absolutely LOVE my macbook. It is sleek, and amazing to look at, and even more amazing to use. The touch pad was a bit to get used to, especially since there is so much you can do with it. It seemed a little difficult to remember what each thing does; but once you do its amazing. The keyboard is soft and wonderful for when you have to write long papers, or even short reports. You don't have to worry about pressing down too hard either. My favorite little thing though has to be the charger being magnetic. I'm an extremely clumsy person, and my last laptop ended mainly due to my clumsiness. I tripped over the wire so many times and my computer was constantly crashing into the ground. Due to the macbooks magnetic charger, it simply pops off without damaging it OR your computer. I love it.
Oh my...this is what I've been missing.
I've been a pc user for 20+ years and finally decided to make the switch. I'm at week 2 now and not only has my system never crashed, I have found nothing I am not totally pleased with. The trackpad is so amazing...touching my pc touchpad feels terrible now, somehow just flat and unresponsive. Mac is great!
Great!
I love my MacBook! The multi-touch trackpad and battery life are AMAZING! This is my first Mac and now I will never go Windows again... Sorry Bill!
Pros:
-Multi-Touch Trackpad
-13.3 inch gorgeous screen
-Easy to fast-type keyboard
-7 hour battery life
-2.26GHz processor! (Super fast!)
-It is just amazing
Cons:
-No SD card slot (not a big deal AT ALL)
-The white color... I can see some scratches :(

I HIGHLY recommend this! It is the same thing as the MacBookPro 13-inch but no FireWire, no SD card slot, and no aluminum! That's all! :)
The best laptop I have owned, Windows or Mac
I haven't owned a Mac laptop in 12+ years. (though I have craved one) Finally I found a good deal on this polycarbonite macbook. The 2 other machines I was looking at were the 15 Dell Studio (nice eSata port) and the ASUS ULV models (with 12 hour advertised battery life)

The processor in the Dell was faster at a similar price and the battery life of the Asus made it appealing. I have no regrets that I chose the Apple product. With VMWare Fusion I have a great Windows XP computer. (that resumes and suspends way faster than my VMWare workstation does on my work PC)

In addition, I loaded Windows 7 with bootcamp. (I have to reboot to get to it) I turned on all visual effects and the performance is impressive.

I found that a remote support tool called "TeamViewer" has a mac version that works great! (shared my screen with my friends to show them the interface) It obviously lowers the color palette to increase speed.

It is nice that OSX has RDP built in! I remote into my Windows XP desktop almost daily.
THINGS I LOVE:
1) Windows compatible (even XP, newer Windows machines with XP drivers are getting more and more rare)
2) Mac Safe power adapter. My Sony laptop's AC/DC adapters always die right after the warranty expires. They are over $100 to replace, but the latest macsafe is only $75. I love this because I don't have to reach behind my machine to plug it in and I don't have to check if it is plugged in before I pick it up. (you can see it on the side) Also my kid tripped over the cord the first day I had it....it simply came unplugged. (gotta love Apple for this one)
3) The screen is LED backlit and only slightly glossy. (macbook pros have glass on them, very shiny) shiny is good for indoor use, but in the sun you will wish it wasn't glossy at all. This is a happy medium and as always the Apple display is wonderful and bright.
4) Lithium Polymer battery (non-removable) By eliminating the extra hardware needed to use a removable battery Apple has lighted the load. Using this technology is unique in the market. (I don't think any PC laptops have LIPO batteries) The advertised 7 hr battery life is realistic in Windows or OSX if you lower the screen brightness a couple of notches from the top. (the lower you go, the longer the battery life) Many people are upset over the non-removable battery. The truth is you can replace it yourself or have Apple do it for $125 or so. It is removable but you have to take of the cover and undo some fasteners. It will also last longer than the Lithium Ion batteries we are used to replacing every 2 years. (Apple says in 5 years it will have 80% of it's original life)
5) Nice Nvidia graphics. I was looking for a powerful machine not a netbook or machine without discrete graphics.
6) Chicklet keyboard. Aside from confusion over which modifier key I should (being a long time Windows user) the keyboard is a joy. I love the itunes dedicated play, pause next button setup as well as the volume (that even works in Windows or Linux) and the handy brightness settings. In the past things like programmable keys on certain machines required locating drivers and a bit of work. Apple makes things easy with their bootcamp setup.
7) Resale value. At first I wanted to get a netbook. I looked on Cragslist and notices that they were worth very little used. I next determined that anything under 12" wouldn't do. (older Sony machines and ultra portables) I thought about picking up some old machines and buying a new battery. Battery life is very important to me and there is no PC equivalent to this machine. I spent a little more than a net book or order ultra portable, but I will be able to sell it later for a good price and it will probably be more reliable than either option.

You can get the aluminum unibody macbook pro if you really want that but you will pay more for the same specs. (though it will have Firewire and an SD card slot) I like the looks of the Pro better but I couldn't justify the money. Owning an Apple product (whether polycarbonite or aluminum) is a great experience.
Nice tune-up
Am very happy with this new MacBook. It's smooth, ergonomic, smart, and very user friendly. Apple knows that many of it's customers are looking to upgrade from an older unit and makes the process very painless. My old MacBook, which I got three years ago, was about maxed and nearly worn out from long service. It superseded my G4 T-Book, which took over for my old Wall Street, which I had purchased in the late 90's after years of dueling with WinTels. This is a million miles beyond the used Mac Portable I had in college (which even then ran circles around the newer IBMs of the day).
This unit will run Windows better than a dedicated machine, and cross-platform everything you need to bridge that gap effortlessly (with the right software like Parallels and a stable Windows OS).
For all intents and purposes, this is the MacBook Pro in a different chassis. You lose a couple of ports, gain a larger HD, and sacrifice a larger memory cache; this only goes to 4G. If you're running Pro Tools or Final Cut Pro, you'll do better with one of the larger Macs for a lot of reasons. But this will run TurboCAD, the Adobe Suites, Office, and all the other usual suspects brilliantly for all intents and purposes.
I held back a star because though this is a 64 bit machine, Apple won't let it boot in 64 bit kernel mode and take full advantage of the true nature of it's architecture. I think they need to let the MacBook expand to more base memory - my last one only went to 4G as well - 3 years ago. Most importantly, Apple needs to wake up and seriously consider including touch screens on all their future products, not just iPhones and iPads. A lot of us are getting spoiled with our smart gadgets, thanks in large part to Apple itself.
In Summary, it's great to see a new Mac under $1000, especially such a powerful little machine as this one. Mac has always been light years ahead of the pack with both their equipment and software and this unit is no exception. You can double the on-board memory for about $100, which I highly recommend, and spend the rest of the money you save here on software, music, and other gadgets.

HP G60-630US - Excellent Laptop
Excellent computer for the money. Worked perfectly right out of the box. I've read reviews where the webcam and microphone do not work but I am having no problems with mine. Definitely worth $500 to $600.
great computer
Lots of features for a mid priced laptop. Does everything you could want for school, home, surfing, watching video and tv. Screen looks bigger than 15.6.
I like it, but....
I wished I would of went with a bigger screen. I dont carry mine out of the house so I would like a bigger screen. That 4 hour battery life is a joke, but I would say that would be the case for most laptops. The only thing I use my laptop for is to surf the web and its more than enough computer for me.
Very much worth the money!!!
I love this computer.. I would recommend it to anyone. but the battery life sucks.. other than that its great...
AVOID this model--extremely bad microphone!
I bought the HP G60-630us and returned it a few days later. It has one HUGE and fatal flaw: the built-in microphone is EXTREMELY bad. If you are absolutely sure you will never want to use this laptop for anything involving the microphone (like video chat) then you will probably be happy with this purchase. But if there is a sliver of a chance you'll want to use the microphone at some point, then AVOID, AVOID AVOID.

I was happy with this model the first few days I had it. I liked the look, the feel, and the fast response. It really suited my basic needs. Then I tried to Skype (live video chat) with family members. They could barely hear me and could not understand what I was saying due to the excessive backround noise, inceassant audio drop-out, and fluctuating levels in my microphone. It was horrible. I had to write what I wanted to say on Skype; this microphone is literally unusable.

I spent a long time trying to readjust the microphone settings but nothing helped. I tried an external mic and it was just as bad.

I took the laptop in to the place where I purchased it to see if their tech staff could help. A day later the tech called me with bad news. There was nothing he could to to fix this mic. He also said he tested two other G60-630us units in the store and found the same exact problem. He tested two additional HP models in the "G" line, and found the microphone problem in those models, too.

His conclusion: Likely ALL the HP "G" models have this horrible built-in microphone problem and there's not a way to fix it.

He did test some other HP models besides those in the "G" series. He reports microphones in the HP "D" series (like the DV6-2150us, which, unlike the G60-630us, uses a digital microphone) worked just fine. I tested the microphone on the "D" unit display model and was pleased with the result. I will likely buy that "D" line model as my replacement for this "G" model.

In conclusion: AVOID, AVOID, AVOID the HP G60-630us and it's ultra-horrible built-in microphone. To be safe, avoid buying any HP with a "G" in the model number unless you test the microphone first.

Long name, simple design, good cooler
The thing about this pad that I appreciate the most is it's simple design. It is, in effect, a simple piece of aluminum bent into a cooler-pad shape, three fans bolted on, and a bunch of rubber grommets and pads to keep your computer and itself in place. The fans are standard 60mm size, nice and quiet, and when the day comes that one of them does start to fail, the wiring scheme is so simple that I'll have a harder time scrounging the tools and parts to replace it than actually replacing the fan.

The only real problem I have is it's size. I have a large laptop (17" HP DV7) and it hangs a couple inches off either side and a little off the front, so it's really designed for a machine smaller than the one I have. Despite this, it cools my machine exceptionally well and is stable enough that it has survived the "curious toddler what's-this-daddy? test."

Pros: All in all a well designed, sturdy, and efficient design. Fans easily serviceable/replaceable.

Cons: Completely open design on the sides and bottom. Little protection for underside wiring, not very portable. Overall size would work better for notebooks smaller than 17".
USB Powered and Most NON Efficient Cooler Pad
The product arrived in a nice package and on time as it was described on the confirmation e-mail. The problem that I had with this product was not the cool metal pad or the 3 built-in fans, but the fact that it DIDN'T Work. I tried it on two other laptops with the same result. If anyone is considering buying this product, research and find some other one.
works fine in desk
I bought this for using on my desktop with a 17 in toshiba laptop. Keeps computer cooler at least on desk. which is where my 17 in is most of the time i bought a netbook for mobility lol. I dont think this would do to well on lap sice fans are open. also with 17 in. about in. to in. half hangs over each side and it tilts computer slightly towards you which i like. would probably fit 15 in perfect. does not use much power since it is usb powered and moves air enough to cool mine down. Maybe not for everyone or all applications but does th jpb fine for what i got it for.
Works!
I bought this metal cooling pad because my laptop was constantly overheating. I first tried one of those gel cooling pads that I bought from HP but that made my heating problem worse so don't get one of those. With this metal cooler your laptop sits on top of the cooler at an angle which leaves clearance for the hot air to escape below. This cooler attaches to a USB port which is very convenient. I have it attached to my docking station and have never had any issues with it. You do hear the fan but it's not loud so I'm not bothered by it. I've been using this cooler for several months and with no problems and my laptop has not overheated once since I started using it. This product does what it claims. I'm very satisfied with this product.
causes a my gateway to not function
Hello, I ordered this to replace an old fan that I had. But, as soon as I plugged it into my gateway (model M-6843)laptop, it shuts down. Once it's off, I kept trying and trying to turn it back on, but it would not turn on properly. But as soon as I unplugged it, my laptop came back on. My fiance and I kept making sure it was the fan and it was. BUT, we recently purchased a new Hp Laptop and it works perfecty fine on his. Im not sure if its just a compatibility problem, so I am not talking bad about the seller, but it definitely did not work out on my laptop.

It hurts my shoulders bad
The product itself looks really slick, but I hate how thin the shoulder strap is! It totally hurts my shoulders! I wouldn't recommend this to anyone...
Lowepro does it again
This company has a great reputation for making great bags; reason number one for buying it. Reason number two was the great price. Strong construction, deep & wide lots of space, the laptop slips into it's own compartment with a wide velcro closure to hold it in; the strap is very comfy & although it's stitched to the bag, it can be flipped to use on either shoulder. You can fit lots of things inside in the main compartment, also some little pockets for little things like a cell phone, an mp3 player & snacks.
I have a Lowepro messenger style camera bag that I love which prompted me to look at this brand again for a laptop bag.
NICE MESSENGER! GETS THE JOB DONE!
It definitely gets the job done! 14inch Notebook fits perfectly as well as one book and a binder! Wish it could hold more and I wish that this could transform into a backpack and the it really would be perfect!
For the money - best bag you can buy
Summary - It's really a good bag for the money you'll pay. It's not the most sturdiest of the bags but gets the job done. I like that there's not a huge space to carry around junk. My last bag used be 20 lbs cuz it could carry stuff. Overall - i'll recommend this bag if you understand you're getting the best bag for the money but not the best bag.

Good:
- Light
- Sturdy
- Attractive design
- Cheap

Bad:
- Limited Space
- Limited compartmentalization (is this a word)
- is not travel friendly. Can't tie it against to travel suitcase
Holy Cr*p
Couldn't have been more pleased with this product. My previous messenger bag broke after a good 3 years of use and I was looking to replace it. My price range was about $50-100, but when I saw the $15 price tag and good reviews I thought I would give the Lowepro bag a shot.

First day of use, it started pouring rain. I thought I would give put the "water resistance" claim to the test. All of the rain beaded right off of the surface, and after a decent amount of exposure...everything inside was bone dry. The bag is very well ergonomically designed, having many facets and pockets. My 13 inch macbook pro rests inside and is well protected with padding on all sides.

Ignore the reviews about about laptops slipping
These put me off buying this product at first. This was until I learnt Griffin has fixed the problem by adding clips to the end of each arm. This is a very clever addition and has given me peace of mind. Get this one, it's fantastic.
No Slippage Likely After a Redesign
I was concerned about buying this stand based on the reviews claiming that laptops were slipping right off of it. This seemed like a small risk to me considering where I intended to use it. This, coupled with the $20 savings over the mStand I was otherwise considering, led me to purchase in spite of my reservations. I'm glad I did, because I love it, and there has obviously been a redesign of arms on which the laptop sits. Like the previous reviewer noted, Griffin has added plastic caps to the ends of these arms. I have posted a customer image in case this is unclear.

I highly recommend this stand; it is exactly what I was looking for.
Perfect Mac stand
I was hesitant to purchase the stand because of the "slipping" problem I've read about. The company has now added these little plastic stoppers/clips the will keep any Mac from slipping off. -----------Passes all CAT investigations. Perfect stand to go with your sexy Mac. Better for your posture and it keeps my mac a little cooler. If you have a Macbook pro with the silver keys----download a fan controller. That with this stand------I'm very happy with this setup.
VERY DANGEROUS - DO NOT PURCHASE - DO NOT USE
THIS STAND IS DANGEROUS. DO NOT TRUST IT TO SUPPORT YOUR LAPTOP.

This stand loses grip over time. A few nights ago, I watched (in slow motion horror accompanied by a classic muffled/panicked "nooooooooooo...." for added effect) as my macbook pro slid off the stand and onto my kitchen floor. The laptop was fully on the stand prior to sliding off. After that, the laptop wouldn't boot.

I took my laptop to the Apple store to have it diagnosed. My hard drive was broken because of the fall. This was not all. I now have a big dent on my laptop and a ding in my kitchen floor.

I called Griffin Technology to see what they could do for me. They said that since the stand was more than 2 months old that it was not a manufacturing defect and that they would be unable to cover the cost of the replacement hard drive and shell. The hard drive and new torx set cost over $120. I don't even want to guess how much a new macbook pro shell would cost me.

It is concerning that Griffin believes that a $30+ stand which supports a multi-thousand dollar computer should only be stable for one to two months.

I spent the next day dissembling my laptop, installing a new hard drive, attempting to bend my laptop shell back into shape, reassembling my laptop, restoring OS-X and the environment that I had on the computer.

I should have trusted my first instinct to not buy products from Griffin.
AWesome!
I would buy this product for as many laptops as I have. It is really great. Saves neck strain for sure, plus it looks cool!

Great Product!
Overall this product is a great deal for the price. Only con with this laptop is the mousepad. It locks up coming back from sleep if the gestures are turned on. Also its surface leaves less to be desired. It's metallic surface is not smooth enough and leaves it feeling "sticky".
Better than a stick in the eye
Quick review - purchased this laptop for a friend. Wanted something fairly light but powerful -- this HP is a great blend of the 2 needs. I looked at the AMD chip version in a retail store and got this one (faster and more RAM) for less... it is Amazon after all!

I am (and more importantly, my friend) very pleased with the performance. The screen height is short, so using this laptop to remote onto another machine (Remote Desktop or GotoMyPC) have presented him with some "getting used to" -- otherwise, it's peppy.

Take special note on the specs -- this HDD is the faster model, which makes a big difference in performance.

Overall - great buy! If I was shopping for one for myself, I'd buy it if I wasn't a Mac fan :-)

Cheers!
GREAT PRICE, VALUE, ETC.... INTERNATIONAL BUYER
I've just recieved this computer after a long research for a good laptop. aND I can assure it's awesome, for the price... it's an incredible value, I've just seen one identical except that it had just 3GB Ram here on Guatemala on Sale at Q9,500 which is about $1,200, and I bought mine at less than half of that. Also its gorgeous, really gorgeous. It has its own flaws, but non that are really really bad. I haven't had any trouble with the pad at all, its fast, its slick its a great laptop overall, also is incredibly quiet and cool. Way better than anything of this price.

If its lower than $550 dont think about it, just buy it.
Great lightweight laptop with some gusto!
This is a great little laptop and works beautifully for the price. I really like this laptop and let me tell you why I find it to be such a great little laptop and why it's such a good deal and SOOO much better than a netbook. I will also tell you the drawbacks as well.

First, it really runs alot better than I thought it would. With Windows 7 and 4gb of ram, this is smooth and rarely have I been able to push it too hard with basic tasks. I use a desktop for most of my serious work (video encoding, picture editing, and long term writing and spreadsheet work). But when I want to go out this almost always goes with me. It can handle anything online well, and I have really been impressed with how good the wireless range and reception are. I had a netbook and got rid of it as soon as I could as it was incredibly slow even with Windows XP. Really almost unusable. This is about 4 times the computer most netbooks are and really only about $150 more. Think of how many hours you will use this for (my guess is over an hour a day for a year). Then realize 50 cents per hour is not that much to be paying.

Second is size and style. I used to have 15.6 inch laptop with a great big old battery graphics card and the whole works. This small laptop has completely replaced it. It's quite thin, beautifully designed with some good use of metal and just well sculpted. It doesn't look like it's just one solid piece, but everything looks like it belongs. Nothing sticks out and it all just feels right. And at under 4 pounds, it weighs as much as about a nalgene full of water. It just looks great.

Battery life is also great. I routinely get 5 hours of video on flights and other things. Also it charges back up in a matter of an hour or so which is really great. It stays pretty cool, and quiet as well the fan noise will not be noticeable in coffee shop or in most meetings.

The keyboard and screen work great, in fact they are some of the best I have had in recent memory. The screen is bright and quite clear, and the keyboard is just rock solid. No flexing at all.

Also it has great connectivity with HDMI I have used this to play movies and TV shows from Hulu on a couple of occasions.

So now onto the not as great stuff.
First the trackpad initially had a few issues (completely freezing after coming out of sleep, and sometimes being weird with the multitouch zoom and scroll). However, there is a software update from HP that completely fixed the problem. Google it and you can get it fixed. Also the buttons on it were stiff at first, but they have loosened up and I quite like them now.

Second, the fan is quiet (my refrigerator in the next room is currently covering the noise) but it's always on. And for some reason the sound isn't as pretty as most fans. It's more true white noise than a whoosh sound most fans make. It doesn't seem to have a nice tone but just be a bit harsh.

Finally, the battery rattles a little bit. I was able to fix this with a piece of paper tucked strategically, but I shouldn't have to do that cmon HP!

Okay so this computer is basically as powerful as most low end laptops out there, it is thinner, lighter and gets better battery life and is more beautiful. As long as you are okay with no DVD drive, go ahead and pick this up. Look for a deal, you should be able to find one for just north of $500 if you wait a week or two and shop the deals.
Almost perfect...almost
I bought this laptop in December 2009 and I have been using it ever since at work and at home. Before buying it, I did an extensive research comparing similar laptops (Asus, Toshiba, Acer) within the thin and light category. The main reasons why I bought it were:

1) Aluminum chasis: It makes a HUGE difference compare to plastic laptops in terms of looks, feel, design, and durability. And I don't have to worry about getting it dirty with my fingerprints.

2) Chiclet keyboard. It is a pleasure to type on this laptop. It would have been better if this laptop had offered a back-lit keyboard option.

3) Thin but not so light: I needed something to carry around without breaking my back and that was easy to slip in my messenger bag. It is not as light as other laptops in the same category but it works for me.

4) Intel Pentium: I wanted a dual core laptop with Windows 7 64-bit. It works perfect for everyday tasks. I was hesitating between buying this laptop and the Intel Core 2 Duo version (never care about the AMD option). I took the Intel Pentium option because I didn't want to spend so much money since I knew that the new iCore processors were going to be in the market this year.

5) No optical drive. I hardly used it with my previous laptop, so I didn't really need it. By the way, my brother gave me an external optical drive as a xmas gift...

HP offered a customized version of this laptop on its website with an Intel Core 2 Duo (2.26 GHz)and a Nvidia GeForce chipset. Actually my dad bought this option with Windows 7 Professional and it cost him like 1,200 dollars including accesories (optical drive). For that price, I told my dad, I would have bought the 13'' Apple's MacBook Pro. Now he regrets his decision and he learnt the lesson.

Just to cover the flaws of this laptop and why I didn't give it the 5 stars it should have deserved:

1) The mirror trackpad is just frustrating and uncomfortable. Since I always use an optical mouse, I don't really care about this.

2) It does get hot on the left palm area. Since it hasn't burned my hand yet, I don't really care about this.

My second purchase choice was the ASUS laptop, but for my taste it looked too plastic and too cheap. It was thin though but the HP looked much much better.

Be sure to have the exactly correct Phillips Head
Although I believed that I had an appropriate Phillips Head screw driver set....two hours later I had not been able to open the screwed down memory cover for the upgrade.
I ended up ordering a Phillips Head Computer set from Amazon for about $10 with a 1 day delivery for another $20 plus!.... They should have included the tool with the netbook, upgrade, and cover package, and guaranteed that the screw on the cover would not be frozen.
I will try to write a followup review to let shoppers know how practical this packaged upgrade really is.
I have come to trust Amazon to always "cover all the bases" this time they delivering a problematically presented package to me, when I have come to trust that their degree of attention to detail would at least present even simple problems as a possibility and suggest solutions, ...even at extra cost, to such an issue on the main product site.
Good memory for Gateway netbook
I purchased this memory for my Gateway LT2030u netbook. Even though the frontside bus speed of the Atom 1.6 Ghz processor is only 533 mhz, the 667 mhz memory works fine. I know that I won't get the benefit of the faster memory, but it was cheaper than the 533 mhz memory and it also came with a free 4 GB SDHD card! I could not find a price locally anywhere near the price Amazon wanted for it, so don't waste your time. Just buy it!
Do NOT buy with ASUS EEE 1005HA!
I bought this card at the same time that I bought an ASUS EEE 1005HA. 2 netbooks, 2 cards, multiple customer service and tech support calls later, I still do not have a functioning netbook. The short of it is that these cards do NOT fit well into the ASUS EEE 1005HA, and in the process of figuring that out, the cards KILLED the netbooks. I had to ship my netbook off to ASUS to have it serviced under warranty.
It Works!
Bought this module for my Acer 1410 w/ Windows 7, however, I didn't realize Windows 7 doesn't make use of the full 4GB (came w/ 2GB and my Home Premium is a 32-Bit OS - you need the 64-bit version to run 4GB or more) that this raises my laptop capacity to, so it was somewhat of a waste in the sense that I'm able to use more, but not quite the full 4GB. Windows 7 is utilizing about 3.3 GB of the installed ram, so I'm not unhappy. For the cost, I believe it was worthwhile. The module itself installed easily and was recognized in the BIOS right away. No problems w/ the item. Just should've done more research of my own.
good upgrade
good upgrade for cheap.... i found it very easy to install on my acer took maby five min. but make sure you use a really tiny screw driver or you will strip the screws.

AWESOME!!!
I was window shopping on Amazon for a wrist rest for some time and found this. It is wonderful and fits perfectly on my Dell Vostro, I LOVE IT!! Its small enough to put in my laptop, but obviously large enough to do the job. I can access my touchpad with no problem.
eh, no it isn't...
"One-size-fits ALL Laptop brands with 12",13",14",15",16",17",18" wide screens from Apple®, Acer®, Asus®, Dell®, Gateway®,H-P®, Lenovo®, Sony®, Toshiba®."

This pad in no way, shape or form fits a toshiba satellite 13.3". impossible to lineup with the keyboard & mouse pad simultaneously.

to keep it from overlapping the keys you'll have about 1/5th of it hanging off the front. in other news it's about a 3 on the adhesive scale.

dear false advertiser: liar liar pants on fire.
sincerely, bitter consumer.
Didn't live up to expectations
I ordered two of these for me and my husband - we both use the white unibody MacBooks and hate the sharp edge where we rest our wrists (using an emery board, the edge can be softened slightly). I did end up cutting away a bit more of the trackpad opening, but it still covers 15-20% of it. Biggest disappointments are that the base is not the super grippy type - it will slide when used on an incline or when shifted around, and that the padding is too firm - a gel or softer foam would make a difference. When someone finally creates something to effectively deal with the Mac's most painful design flaw - the sharp-as-glass edge - I'm guessing they'll make lots of money. BTW: I still am glad I returned the Windows laptop and went with my first choice - Mac still can't be beat.

Pros: moderate price, lightweight, fast delivery
Cons: doesn't stay put, trackpad opening too small, padding not soft enough
Perfect
Fits my husbands lap top perfectly & no more complaining of sore wrists!! Great product for the price!!
NOT Mac Friendly
The description says it works for Macs, but that's really misleading. The window in the center is far too small. I have a MacBook Pro, without a button, just a touchpad. So I thought it wouldn't be a problem. However, using the wrist rest, I found that I kept constantly accidently clicking on the screen. I ended up having to cut the connecting strips, turning it into two separate pads. Now it works ok, but I wish I had just bought two separate pads to begin with, since now the pads have jagged edges from using scissors on them. Very ugly. :(
