Great large apeture lens!
The Canon f/1.4 lens is definetly worth the money. Don't get the cheap f/1.8 lens if you want really nice quality photos. Used it today for the first time at a professional photo shoot and it performed with excellent results...especially in darker areas. The f1/4 setting really sucks in the light and lets you get so very cool photos with that ultra soft, blurred background. I would reccomend this lens to anyone serious about photography...professional or hobbyist.

I don't think you need the over the top, super expensive lenses to get good photos. A naturally good eye for photography will always come through in your work. You can see my photo work at [...]

Excellent upgrade
I have been using the Canon 50mm 1.8 II lens for about 2 years now and have been happy with the picture quality. However, as many people describe, that lens tends to self-destruct, even with careful handling. Instead of replacing it with another, I decided to upgrade to this guy - and I'm glad that I did.

Others have reviewed the features and advantages of this lens. The only thing I'd like to add is that the USM makes a bigger difference than you might think if you've never used a lens with a USM/HSM before. Focus is very fast and silent.

I don't regret starting with the 50mm 1.8 II - it reassured me that having a prime lens in my pack was worth it. I would say that this lens is on my camera about 1/4 of the time, but it's well worth having if you take portraits of people or pets.

GREAT LENS FOR THE PRICE
Absolutely love this lens. My husband and I have been starting out our photography buisness and I would recommend this lens to anyone. I owned the cannon 1.8 50mm prior but the quality of this one is so much better. When I received it its body looks very study and a nice build. The pictures come out crisp and clear, gorgeous circular bokeh instead of the cheap octagon bokeh my older lens produced. Would recommend this to anyone!

pay attention to return policy
when i received this camera it worked fine and i was happy with it. i noticed that the lens had spots in it and i had to send it to canon ($15 shipping and ins.) and they had it repaired and returned in about 2 weeks. if i had bought it directly from amazon,and not a company who uses amazon, i could have just sent it back and received another one with no shipping fees and less turn around time. i like the camera but will deal only with amazon next time

Can't believe this is rated 4 plus stars!
See all other negative reviews. They all say the same thing. I will add that after all the same disappointments and problems that others experienced, I DID finally get it to sorta work, but the power supply died within 6 months. Symptoms included dimming brightness, flickering screen, screen turning off and on.

great picture but freezes on a picture
At first I loved this frame but quickly realized it is not worth the money. It has a great picture but the slide show freezes on a photo. This is random. It could run all day or several days without a problem. Or it could run an hour then freeze. It was random. I eventually returned it because for the $$ I expected a quality frame without any issues.

The slide show always started at the beginning and went in order. No random play or starting with a certain picture. The memory card was also very hard to pull out.

Lastly, really think about if you have room for a 15" frame. That may sound strange but it wouldn't fit on my book case.

read b4 buying if...
i purchased this product with a 8Gb memory card and... the frame doesn't read more than 1GB!!!!

Cannot display more that a few pictures, interrnal mem. a joke
See all the negative reviews here - my experience was the same - I can't get the unit to display more than a tiny fraction of the images on the loaded card, and the internal memory does not exist. FYI: Opteka is not a real brand, it's a name 47th st photo uses to label it's cheap non-name Chinese junk. Sometimes the junk is just good enough, but often it's a bad joke - as is the case with this unit. Hope amazon lets me return it - it was a gift that lead to severe disappointment on all sides. Unfortunately, in the digital photo frame market, cheap Chinese sourced parts are the norm, every brand (Kodak, etc) buys junk and re-brands it so the quality is a roll of the dice.

Nice frame with some odd bugs
I simultaneously love and hate this frame.

First the good:
-Huge picture size I like the 1024x768 resolution
-LCD screen looks great. The pictures will jump out at you.
-It looks great. It will look fantastic in your home and will not look dated in a couple of years.

The bad:
-It is a very buggy device with odd defects. For example, the date might randomly change to a different year or the device might decide to not be able to read your files on its internal hard drive.
-I wish it would randomly cycle through the photos. It goes in a weird order of its own choosing when done off the internal memory. They tell you to reorder the photos manually, but even when I've done that the device will choose its own picture order.
-The speakers are pretty bad. I thought it would be cool to listen to music on it but that is definitely not the case.

Redemption:
Although the internal memory is worthless, it does function MUCH better off of memory cards (I use SD cards)

If you want to use the extra features I'd say don't bother. If you just want a pretty screen to display your photos then it is a good.

Excellent Canon Teleconverter
I use it with my Canon Powershot A650IS and I'm very pleased with the results. excellent for birding and candid portraits. The weight throws the balance of the camera off when you're holding it, but this is to be expected.

Useful but limited
first of all - you *do* get tunnel vision with this lens unless you are in the upper zoom range, and the canon manual acknowledges it. the menu setup option is just to optimize the way IS (image stabilization) works with the lens. i own a G9 and i doubt it behaves differently with the G7.

this takes you to a respectable 12x zoom, which is good for doing some nature work. the lens does affect picture quality some, i do notice some loss of resolution and contrast. and keep in mind it is much easier to get blurry pictures at this rate of zoom, IS or not - chances are you'll need a tripod or a hard surface to take optimal advantage of this and maximize picture quality. also, as you can imagine, it dwarfs the camera, so you will need a camera bag. having it dangling around your neck suspended while connected to Canon's plasticky adapter does not instill confidence. put it in a bag. :)

it just seems a tad overpriced for what it is, and at 25% of the camera value and with the fact it only operates in the upper zoom range i can not give it more than 3 stars.

Great lense but very big for a little Camera G9
I love it but i am going to return it not because it is not good .. it does very good Job but this with the adapter make the Camera very heavy and unable to handle it my hands shaking when i hold the Camera but it does really an aweasom Job the only thing bothered me is the adapter big adapter with big lense increase the weight for the Camera ..

Canon TC-DC58C
Together with required LADC58H converter this telephoto lens works as advertised. Read other reviews for performance, remembering that the G9 is not a DSLR. If you already have the G9 and would like to extend your telephoto capabilities with this camera, go for it. If you are considering buying a G9 or G10 and need the extra telephoto capabilities, you probably should take a closer look at DSLR's available within this price range for greater choice of options.

Canon TC-DC58C + Sony DSC-H3 Perfect couple review.
I bought this Canon 2X Tele Lens to be used on my Sony DSC-H3 camera with 58mm mounting.
This is a perfect solution for Tele photos, the image is very clear and the size and weight of lens is more than affordable for this camera model.

I try several shoots also using digital zoom, where the final range go up to 32X (Camera 10X Optical + 6X Digital + 2X Converter) to take moon images, and the image clean and resolution is amazing.

The only detail to mention is that the lens don't have a front mount to install filters, very useful for landscape photo.

I highly recommend to all Sony DSC-H3/H10 users, to buy this lens.

Excellent!
If you only have one accessory for your canon rebel camera, this should be it. You will improve your indoor pictures with the bounce feature of this flash. It pivots in two axis allowing bounce mode on portrait and landscape photographs. Get this BEFORE you run out and get that bigger lens.

This flash is everything I could've wanted, albiet pricey.
I've heard before that a flash is more critical to getting a great shot than a great lens. After using this flash I couldn't agree more! This flash is definitely made with the pro in-mind; however, amateur photogs can benefit from this flash immediately. It is expensive, but I feel it is worth it. I don't know if the 480 or any other flash at a lesser price point can match because I don't have them to compare. Distilled, photography is about light management and this flash will help you manage it.

Great flash
Works very well... I did have difficulties getting it to master/slave with my 430EX II ... the manual isn't real clear that, after programming the 580 and the 430, that the Canon camera (I have a XS) takes over and does it's own thing... you need to take it off "auto", and get it into the flash mode and tell it to enable wireless. I didn't see that in either the 430 or 580 manuals

It's heavy but works well
This flash is strong and recycles FAST! It looks silly on my Rebel XTi body and its weight makes it rather akward, but the pictures you get with it are great.

It has had a couple issues communicating the focal length from my Tamron 28-75mm, but it works 98% of the time. I don't know if that's a camera, lens, flash, user error, or combination issue.

I'm tempted to get a 430ex because it weighs less, but won't let this one go.

Great flash
A must have for all pro photographers. Loads of power, decent battery life, excellent build quality. a little spendy, and i actually lucked out and got it $50 cheaper on sale on amazon. So keep your eyes open for a good deal.

I didn't know what I was missing without IS
Bought this as a step up from the kit lens with the Rebel and have been very pleased. For the price I don't think you can beat this for an every-day lens. The image stabilization feature is truly a gift. You can hand-hold for shots you never thought possible. Was on vacation without my tripod (gasp!) but was still able to get some incredible late evening/sunset/star shots with this lens.

Great Lens
Great lens, worth every penny. Took great pictures both in low and bright light. Used it on my last trip and every shot was great.

Great bang for the buck
As with many other reviewers, I was pleasantly surprised on the versatility and overall image quality of this lens. And the for the umpteenth time, yes, this is no "L" lens, nor does it feature USM, but who cares. Good gear is only part of the equation when it comes to producing beautiful images.

One odd thing about this lens is the very noticeable distortion at 18mm, yet the moment you go to 19 or 20mm, it's straight as an arrow. Other than that, it yields excellent sharpness (for the price) and a healthy level of contrast.

A solid all-around lens...
Purchased this lens with the t2i camera and I can't seem to take it off (not literally) because the range is so useful.

BUILD QUALITY
People expecting awesome build quality need to recognize this is not an "L" lens, this is a consumer grade lens, period. That being said, I was still happy with the solid feel of the lens. It does have a metal mount which gives added security.

SIZE
This lens is quite a bit bigger (longer and wider) than the 18-55mm IS lens. I'm not saying that's a bad thing though because to me, it makes the lens easier to handle. The zoom ring has a good size to it as well.

FEATURES
Lacking features include the silent and fast Ultrasonic Motor for AF. Also, it does not have a zoom lock. Lastly, there is not full-time manual focus, it does have an AF/MF switch. Still the focus speed is no slouch and it does make a little noise. But if you have ever owned a Tamron lens (17-50mm or 28-75mm), it's on par with that amount of noise. Image Stabilization is very useful and silent.

IMAGE QUALITY
Wide open at 18mm the 18-55mm beats this lens. The CAs are pretty bad on contrasty scenes, there is a good amount of corner softness, some vignetting and barrel distortion. This is probably the worst setting to shoot with the lens. Otherwise, the lens performs well, especially around f8. Do not expect "L"-type image quality wide open.

I think at $350 the lens is priced about right, $450 is just too much. If you are looking for that one lens to walk-around with then take a look at this lens.

Lastly, I would definitely pay the extra $200 to buy this lens in a kit with the T2i. The range is very useful and image quality, while not great, is still good enough for most amateur users.

Good lens for traveling
When I bought this lens 6 months ago, I was looking for a lens that would give me a good focal length range to use as a walk around lens. And this is exactly what this lens delivers! With a focal range that allows you to go from wide angle to telephoto this lens allows you to cover most of the subjects when traveling with the additional bonus of being lightweight. If you're looking for only one lens to carry with during occasions when weight is an issue, this is certainly a good choice.

On the other hand, the portability offered by this lens incurs in optical compromises one has to be aware of. The two main issues I've found were 1) Strong Vignetting 2) Lack of contrast. The first one can be easily dealt with today's embedded 'peripheral illumination correction' feature available in newer cameras. I am currently using a Canon Rebel T1i and it is doing a good job in correcting those undesired effects. The lack of contrast can also be amended by post processing, but I've found it better to correct it directly in the camera by introducing a positive contrast correction (+2).

In summary, bearing in mind this lens will not give you superb optical quality, it is still a very good choice for someone looking for an easy-to-carry-around lens which gives you opportunity to make a great variety of pictures. Of course, the price when compared to more sophisticated lenses also helps in the decision process.

A Great Device
First of all, I love my Canon G9. It's great to take anywhere I travel. Now with the underwater housing, I can redefine "anywhere" I travel! I just got back from a cruise where I did a fair amount of snorkeling. In the past, I just used the throw-away underwater cameras. They were better than nothing, but not by much. This housing made my underwater shots rock! It was a breeze to use. While underwater, you really can't see too much in the viewfinder, so it's a lot of point and shoot. Initially, because I didn't have the instant feedback, I was only hoping my shots would be usable. When I got back to shore and reviewed them, they were great! The clarity and color are magnificent! It's particularly nice since you can set the camera's white balance to compensate for underwater. That made everything a snap. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who has an interest in underwater photos. At first, I thought it was a little pricey, but it's worth it!

Fabulous
This was a fabulous addition to our Mexico adventure. We bought this hoping we would capture a few good shots...over 400 shots and movies at depths of 70 feet. This housing is very easy and simple to use. My only suggestions are...get a red filter (everything looks blue the deeper you go), and use the little silica bags to stop fogging. Sometimes the lens area would fog due to battery heat. Simple fix. This is a must have for underwater photos. A GREAT BUY.

too big and cumbersom
I ended up sending this back. The picture didn't do the article justice. The housing is HUGE!!!! Imagine your camera with the lens completely extended. Well, that's how large the housing is. It stays that way (at least the camera retracts back). I have one of these underwater housing for my little canon elf and I thought it would be great to get this for my G9. But this is WAY WAY too big. Only a professional would want to tug this along to the beach. Not me!!!

My Favorite Camera Accessory Ever
As someone who is an avid hobbyist photographer, I specifically purchased a G9 with buying this underwater housing in mind. I was a little apprehensive at first because I've suffered a camera loss at the hands of other ziploc-like underwater camera protectors. I shouldn't have worried. I bought the additional weights as suggested in another review and got myself a velcro closure wrist strap and everything went swimmingly. I love the fact that all of the G9's manual settings are readily available, and I also appreciate the presets for times when I am too excited or distracted to worry about settings. I always thought of the bright yellow neck strap as an annoyance and knotted it on the side, until my husband forgot to fasten the wrist strap and dropped the camera onto the ocean floor on a scuba trip. Lucky for him, the bright strap floated up and made the camera visible in the murky depths.

I have had at least twenty people on various beaches and boats ask me where I got the housing and camera and to see my pictures. The G9 is a real powerhouse as far as point and shoots go, and this is the perfect accessory. I have had to replace the seal on the housing once, but that is to be expected since it's been heavily used for two years. The seals are not hard to find and order. If you enjoy photography and you love the ocean like our family does, this is a must have accessory.

Fantastic case, worth the $$$
I recently purchased this for a snorkeling trip to Grand Cayman. It was fantastic! All of the controls were operable underwater but I recommend setting the underwater function prior to going into the water as it is difficult to see the setting underwater. I ended up taking more pictures underwater than above ground. Absolutely airtight. I did not end up purchasing the weights as I only used this for snorkeling and had no issues with it floating away. Highly recommended, can't wait to use it again!

Manufacturers defect - DO NOT BUY
The Canon G9 has a manufacturing defect that causes internal screws to loosen and the camera to short out in about a year. The camera works beautifully until then (thus the glowing reviews), but then it dies and its hard to justify fixing. This is an extremely common problem - a simple google search turns up a myriad of results - yet Canon refuses to do a recall. They charge at least $160 for the repair. DO NOT BUY.

G9 freeze issue
I would like to share my opinion of the G9 and some information on a common issue. The G9 is a wonderful upper-end p/s camera. I have owned mine now for about 3 years. I love taking it snorkeling and using my canon underwater housing.

In the following reviews you will see a common issue coming up concerning the camera freezing with the lens extended and will not power on. A likely cuase is a common issue with the G9 stemming from 2 screws inside the camera that come loose and short out the camera. Canon is aware of the issue but will not admit problems because of a recall. However do not let this be a downfall to a great camera.

Died collecting dust.
My G9 will not power on as of today. I charged the battery to no avail and have checked online for suggestions. I have now found MANY posts that the Canon G9 is notorious for failing around 12-16 months, often when the camera powers up and extends its lens. In short, what happens is the PCB DC/DC board in the camera may short out by a loose screw -OR- the tiny fuse may blow. Either issue will cost approximately $180 for Canon repairs when past warranty. For those strong DIYers, here is a post that explains to tighten the screw before it's too late and also how to rplaice the fuse: [...] Other searches have revealed several companies that are familiar with this problem and advertise a repair for about half of Canon's going rate.
My G9 has less than 350 shutter actuations. I bought it as a backup/spare and it has spent the past six months swaddled in spare lens wraps and sitting cradled in the center of my camera case. As a professional photographer, the utmost care is taken with my equipment and this camera was never damaged or dropped by myself. It was purchased new from a Circuit City store that was closing when the economy crashed and this model was not a demo. Sadly, Canon is playing deaf, blind, and dumb. Despite the number of posts regarding the "screw issue" with the G9, Canon still will not do a recall.

Aperture mistake
The aperture of the Canon G9 is listed at 2.8 to 4.8 in the Amazon specs but should be 2.8 to 8. That's what my G9 tells me it has.

This cam is a dream. I use the optical viewfinder when the LCD is useless in bright sunlight. The cam fits in a pocket and is comparatively lightweight. My Sony minicams are nice to carry everywhere but the G9 is more powerful without needing wheels to carry it around.

Now I gotta find out why the price went from $430+ to $1100+ - is the G9 now not the G9 of the past?

Nice camera... until it DIED after only < 2 years!!
I have had this camera less than two years, and it is currently hosed. The other day, the lens extended and the screen said "lens error - restart camera", but when I turned the camera off and back on, I got the same error. The lens is still extended. Less than a year ago, the camera had a similar problem, but in that case, the camera simply died with the lens extended. Luckily, that issue was promptly repaired under the 12-month warranty. Unfortunately, the camera is no longer under warranty. I would expect a Canon camera that cost as much as this one did to last longer than two years... actually, I can't even say 2 years, since the camera broke down the first time at 1 year.

That aside, I got some great shots with this camera. It had a little more flexibility than your typical point and shoot, with a Manual setting that allowed for manual focus, ISO and aperture settings. The image noise was HORRIBLE when shooting at 1600 ISO, but when shooting at 100 ISO, with great natural light, I got some shots that could rival photos taken with my Canon DSLR. There were other things I liked: the video function was good, the LCD screen was nice and big, and there was a "jog wheel" that allowed for ease of reviewing photos. Just EXTREMELY disappointed that it didn't last very long. If you do some research online, you'll find that I'm not the only one who has had this extended lens problem with the G9. I give this 2 stars because its great attributes don't mean squat when the camera is dead!
