Is it good? I don't know!
I don't know if this is any good or not. It will not run on Windows Vista, nor Windows XP. It apparently is for some earlier outdated operating system!! But they don't tell you that! It is up to you to find out about this only after purchasing this software!
CD Compatibility
Arthurs Computer Adventure Ages 3-7 CD software is not compatible with my Windows XP software, even though the package states it is compatible!Even the readme file did not explain, and was written for Windows 95 & 98! Therefore, it lies on the shelf, totally unusable.
Very entertaining game for toddlers
My 3 and half year old loves this game. I've showed him twice how to use it, and since then he's using it by himself.
Not compatible on new Mac's (with Intel processors)
This is advertised as being Mac compatible, but unless your Mac is very old, it will not work.
Low Educational Value & System Compatibility Issues Mac and PC
If you are a Mac User - please be aware that this title is incompatible with all newer Apple Macintosh computers. Any mac with an Intel processor (from about 2006 onward) or with the newest operating system (10.5) will NOT be able to run this program. And even older macs will need the OS9 compatibility options installed. Yuck.
If you are a PC User. I tried to install this program on my Sony Vaio running XP. The game complained of a missing WAV driver and would not run. Finally, I got it working on another Windows PC, but with issues. The game tried to switch to a lower resolution and my PC handled that by adding a black border around the game area. I don't like the idea of my son squinting at a smaller image in the middle of the screen! Also - occasionally my mouse cursor would sometimes change to a black square making it difficult to tell where you were pointing. I'm sure this game will work fine for most PC users. I'm not sure what was different about my two computers that caused the incompatibility.
Finally - the educational value of this game is extremely limited. Basically it is a computerized book. As you flip from page to page, a voice reads the words to you and the text is highlighted. After the text is read, your child is given a chance to click randomly on the page. If you happen to click on certain objects, they perform some funny animation with sound. Some objects are click-able and others are not.
There are 5 mini games hidden throughout the game. For example, on page 2 if you happen to guess to click on the helicopter, a small remote control pops up on the screen and you can actually control it and drop water balloons on a target.
I only give it a second star because - despite all of this, my son really did enjoy it once I got it going.

iWork a good deal
iWork was much less expensive than Office. Haven't had much experience with it yet, but looks impressive. Besides, it's built for a Mac.
Apple Software
iWork works great. A great business transaction I will continue to buy from this company.
An iWork review mainly about iPages
I have only worked with iPages so far. It works so well that, given the iWork price compared with that of Microsoft Word 2007, I think iWork should get a five-star rating. For all I know, the iWork speadsheet and presentation components work fine. However, even if they did not, iPages makes the whole thing worthwhile for me.
I thus confine my review to iPages.
At first I was concerned that iPages might be a sort of beta version of a product yet to come. Apple, I imagine, might improve on iWork gradually in years ahead. However, what is there now is definitely not, in my opinion, a beta version. In terms of capabilities, I rank iPages a little below Microsoft Word. iPages will not do as many things, but that matters far less than it might seem. Microsoft Word does things I personally believe are not worth doing. For example, does one really need a dozen or more ways to insert a page number?
iPages does do all I need to produce a long narrative not involving footnotes. In my case, the narratives have been draft novels. I have had to take Word 2007 documents, convert them to iPages documents, and then work in rich text format much of the time. All this goes smoothly. I have had to pay attention to where iPages is saving the document. This, however, has not been a problem now that I have learned to be more careful. I think most college students would not have problems doing research papers in iWork.
I think that iPages will work for producing articles for scholarly journals, something I might get around to within a few more weeks. Footnoting as I do it (APA style more or less) seems manageable. You can put into the text special characters like Greek alphabet letters, so equations should be no problem. Inserting objects like statistical package printout might or might not smoothly--I have not tried this yet--but in principle it seems possible. Someone expecting to paste in content from packages like Stata or SPSS might want to ask about iPages' ability to accept such content.
The iPages user interface seems to me better than the ribbon that Microsoft Word went to. I find the iPages user interface better, as well, than the old version of Microsoft Word--the one before their ribbon. I think it has been easier going from Word to iPages in terms of finding things than it was in going from old Microsoft Word to new Microsoft Word. Someone working in Word 2003 might prefer changing to iPages rather than to Word 2007.
If someone needed to produce HTML documents directly from an iPages wordprocessing document, iPages does not seem to have a way for doing that. Microsoft Word 2007 does allow one to go directly to HTML. Also, I use Yahoo SiteBuilder to maintain some web pages. There so far does not seem to be a SiteBuilder version for a Mac. I still use a PC for that. All this means that, if you need to produce web pages, iPages maybe is not going to help much. You might need to buy something like Dreamweaver for your web pages, but, again, you might want to buy something like Dreamweaver, anyhow.
iPages does not seem to have a way to rename a file directly. You have to open the file, save it under the new name, and delete the file. Also, iPages does not clearly handle very well the production of an envelope. That might be me, though. I did not much care for how Word 2007 did envelopes.
Finally, for me, it is refreshing to be out from under Microsoft's software hegemony--at least for Word processing. I imagine not everyone will feel that way, but I find myself feeling good about escaping from Microsoft. If you are tired of what Microsoft gives you in return for the price they extract, iWork could be a very nice surprise. I hope to avoid going back to Microsoft Office. My experience has been that, in my situation, each Microsoft upgrade of Office made the product worse. I now hope that each Apple upgrade of iWork will make the product better.
Versatile, simple, and powerful.
Love it. This has absolutely affected the quality and style of my work in the year that I have had it so far.
Definitely glad I got this over Office. If I owned a business, I would put this on all of my employees computers.
It is streamlined for design.
PAGES:
> "Instant Alpha" is a feature that really attracted me to this. Look it up on Youtube. It makes it REALLY easy to make images stand out in your documents.
> I love the use of palettes to customize settings. Once you get used to the palettes, you can really get a lot done fast. You can hide the palettes if you don't need them, or you can have multiple palettes open if you are working with a lot of things at once (great if you have multiple displays.
* TIP: If you hold down the Alt (or Option) key while clicking a section of the palette, it opens that section as a new palette.
> The colors palette is very useful. Easy to use and powerful as well.
NUMBERS:
> If you know the basics to excel, Numbers isn't too different. It just adds a few things.
> Having multiple independent spreadsheets within one worksheet is very useful. In Excel, you have to merge a lot of cells to do anything at all like that, but the Excel way takes more time and doesn't look good.
Very compatible. You can save as a .doc or .xls files. If that doesn't turn out right, you can always print to pdf.
Lots of little things add up to make it a great product.
Great Seller! Would do business with them again.
The product showed up on time and was just as they advertised. I would definetly buy from this seller again if I needed one of their products.

It won't let me buy it
This is ridiculous. I wanted to spend my money on this Internet Security suite, but it won't let me because of "geographical restrictions". If you live outside the US don't expect to buy this.
Worst Ever Digital Download Experience
It is more than 5 hours now, and Amazon have not delivered my digital order. Customer service sucks, I have not recieved any response to my enquiry as well.
AWESOME
Worked like a charm ...easy breezy ..over half the price of renewing from previous install...just do it!
Norton Internet Security
This product was a great buy. It was cheaper than the automatic renewal and I downloaded it in seconds. It seems to do well for my computer and I have had no probelms since I started using it a year ago. Even if you run into probelms downloading, you can call customer service and they will take care of you on the spot. Truly great services.
WONDERFUL..NEVER LEFT MY HOME
I have several laptops..Two using Kapersky and 4 using Norton...It took about 10 minutes to install and activate Norton 2010 on my older Windows 7 computer...AND cost less than buying the disc at the store...No crashing no problems..Very very happy....

Easy Peasy
I thought surely I would have problems with the download, but it proved to be 'fool' proof and synchronized perfectly with my expiring Norton on my computer.
Want to be held Hostage by your software?
Well if you like that sort of thing, you should love this software. First let me talk about the minor problems with the software. I installed the software, ran the full scan every couple of weeks.
One day about a month ago, I was simply surfing the web, not downloading any files or anything. I started getting messages popping up at the bottom of my screen. It turns out a Trojanfake had penetrated the Norton's security. I opened The Norton window and the Sonar was turned off.
I went through a full system scan removed the virus. A week later, same thing all over again. It's another Trojanfake, but this time it has Norton's logo and company name threatinng that I had a trial version of the software and I would need to pay to download the full version. This is total BS. I purchased the full version here on Amazon.
So again, removed the Trojanfake. So I remove Nortons utilites from my computer and reinstall. Now, everytime I do a search on Yahoo or google, I get a message an attempt to penetrate your computer was blocked. I finally removed Norton's for good and installed Vipre.
I ran a full scan with Viper and bingo it finds another Trojan that Norton's couldn't find. My computer is running very fast now and no problems, since removing the Norton's software.
DOn't buy Norton's Antivirus, you will regret it.
Norton Antivirus 2010
The product does what is needed to keep my machine safe from viruses and spyware. The install went very well. I found out that you can't run PowerDesk with this. If you do your machine will crash. I took the program out and all is fine
Good price for a quick download of computer protection
I have several computers and they do not all need the same level of protection. I was glad to purchase this basic product for one computer.

You strive to play and stay at the championship level. If you choose, plays and calls are announced by Barry Westra, a Dutch brige pro. Also, many tournaments are included with freguency charts. Jack bridge plays SAYC, 2/1 Game Force, ACOL, Precision, etc. through built in convention cards with approximately 100 conventions. You can create your own convention card. It supports network play and has fast double dummy play. Scoring can be based on match points, total points or imps. You can print out results. Jack is constantly improving the program and within the version there are no charges for upgrades. In the annual battle of computer programs Jack is the winner in most years. Customer support is terrific. I play 2/1 game force and disagreed with a bidding sequence and e-mailed Jack. Promply, I received a reply setting forth the rationale for the bidding sequence with a satisfactory explanation. I note that the Dutch Jack programmers attend the ACBL National Tournaments and are doing quite well in the events. For myself, I am presently a Bronze Life Master and constantly improving my bridge game through Jack. In tournament play, it is a constant challenge to move up in class. tHighly reccommended. Started off with Bridge Barron but have switched to Jack and glad I did so. It is an incredible bridge computer program.

It's Office. But you need to be aware of some things.
It's not a one-star product. It can't be. The interoperability with Office 2003 and 2007 alone makes it higher than that. After all, people who get Office 2008 are commonly those who have used the Windows version of Office and need to continue working with those files. Say what you will about iWork, it's not perfect in that arena. When dealing with school work and business assignments that call for these features, it's just not acceptable to deal with anything but the best, and in those arenas, Office reigns supreme.
A lot of this is based on my personal experience. It really boils down to four things.
OFFICE 2008 IS EXTREMELY SLOW. I don't even mean slightly laggy. I mean SLOW. TO the point you wonder if anyone did any QA on it before releasing it. They're not even bloated apps either, not even Entourage, so it's boggling as to why the apps are as slow as they are. Excel is by far the worst offender in the bunch.
OFFICE 2008 IS EXTREMELY BUGGY. I speak more to Word and Excel than Powerpoint or Entourage. Excel is known to lock up after a fashion. Word has frozen on me on more than one occasion, the latest being right at the closing stages of a book I'd written (obviously unacceptable).
OFFICE 2008 IS EXTREMELY CONVOLUTED. If you've used 2003, you know it's a matter of memorizing toolbar and menu positions. If you've used 2007 you know it's getting familiar with the Ribbon, mostly. 2008, I don't know what they were thinking. The Toolbox just takes all of the needed features and bulks them under a clunky structure that makes it difficult to get to the simplest of tasks. I know they plan to fix this with 2011, and I certainly hope they take note of what they did with 2007 and 2010, because 2008 feels archaic even now.
OFFICE 2008 IS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. Given it doesn't include a full flavor of Outlook, and how clunky, buggy, and slow it really is, and given the fact that iWork is significantly lower, it's confusing to me why Microsoft feels the need to price this so high.
IN summary, I recommend it for its interoperability, but ONLY if you need that. If you're just trying to compile docs for school and your own files, choose iWork instead. The only thing you lose is mail, but the built in Mail app is more than enough for the majority of applications. Entourage is a decent mail application - especially for syncing with OWA - but it's no Outlook.
Just not the same ...
I am a huge Excel user and fan. I recently went to a MacBook, mostly for my photos and music, and I do like it for those purposes. However, I do a lot of Excel work. When I purchased my MacBook, the salesman convinced me that iWorks would be "the same" as MS Excel & Word. NOT true. So, after purchasing iWorks, I had to turn around and purchase MS Office for Mac. My mistake ... I assumed it would be the same. NOT so. The Mac version cannot do macros (I use a LOT of macros). When I converted my files over, the formulas didn't change over smoothly and I had to re-do most every one. The keyboard shortcuts that I am used to don't work the same. There is no way to switch to print preview formatting and keep window freeze on ... just little frustrating things like that. I don't have the shortcut icons that I normally use, and I can't create my own like I always did with the MS version.
Anyway - just a lot of little frustrating things missing that make me not love it. My advice is to test it out, either at an Apple store or on a friend's computer, before shelling out the big money for it.
Student Edition is top
I am quite satisfied with the ease of use and speed of the application and believe the price is reasonable.
Terrible, slow, lacking features
I upgraded from Office 2004 to 2008 in the hopes that it would bring speed improvements for Intel Macs. Nope. It is painfully slow, even on a brand new MacBook Pro. Arrowing around a Word document and the cursor will disappear for 10 seconds until it catches up. In PowerPoint, clicking than clicking elsewhere ends up selecting text or moving things, when it was only supposed to move the cursor (this is not user error).
Entourage is a joke. If you want email, use Apple Mail and don't even touch Entourage. It's a crummy program that was given little development time. My Day is ugly (why force on us purple???) and you can't revert back to the previous event reminder system from 2004.
Half of the Windows suite is missing. Need Publisher, Access, Project, Visio? Gotta use Windows since MS doesn't care about us. Don't bother wasting your time - buy iWork '09.

The product came promptly ans I am quite satisfied with it now that i have installed it on my PC.

Won't work on netbook
I bought this for our kids to play with on their netbook, but this software won't run without the CD, which the netbook does not have. It seems the software industry is still bending over backwards to provide products that are inferior, and in my case useless, to legitimate customers.
great teaching CD
I bought this Cd for my 2 1/2 year old grandson and was pleased to find that he enjoys it and learns from it even at his young age. It stretches his thinking and it's giving him some basic skills he'll be needing - laa the while he's having great fun with it! Great learning tool!
Reader Rabbit Preschool Favorites
My three year old grandson loves this Reader Rabbit CD! The first time he played it he didn't want to stop using it. He had a great time. The characters are delightful, bubby and the games are fun. I'd recommend it to anyone!
Excellent for the kids, not so good for your computer.
As other reviewers have stated, it's an excellent interactive learning experience for your child. I give it 4 or 5 stars on that alone. But I was dismayed to find that the setup process stuck an AOL promotion on my desktop (my other Reader Rabbit programs also did it). And of course, the unwelcome desktop icon was just a shortcut; I had to search in the Programs folder for the AOL executable file in order to delete it. A major annoyance!
This sort of thing is not terribly unusual with free applications that you download from the Internet, but when I pay money for a program, I don't expect it to come with adware junk.
Another problem is that once you've started one of the programs running, there's no way to back out of it or shut it down before it quits. There's no right-click menu with a Cancel button or anything like that. Very inconvenient if you're simply giving a program a quick test. I had to use the Windows CTRL-ALT-DEL trick to shut it down in midstream.
Bottom line: great for the kid, a pain in the behind for dad.
Excellent, kids LOVE it!
Have been very satisfied with all RR products. I keep buying, they keep playing. Excellent way to get boys to focus and learn! Highly recommended, makes a great gift too.
Testing Computer Software, 2nd Edition
This book will teach you how to test computer software under real-world conditions. The authors have all been test managers and software development managers at well-known Silicon Valley software companies. Successful consumer software companies have learned how to produce high-quality products under tight time and budget constraints. The book explains the testing side of that success. Who this book is for: * Testers and Test Managers * Project Managers-Understand the timeline, depth of investigation, and quality of communication to hold testers accountable for. * Programmers-Gain insight into the sources of errors in your code, understand what tests your work will have to pass, and why testers do the things they do. * Students-Train for an entry-level position in software development. What you will learn: * How to find important bugs quickly * How to describe software errors clearly * How to create a testing plan with a minimum of paperwork * How to design and use a bug-tracking system * Where testing fits in the product development process * How to test products that will be translated into other languages * How to test for compatibility with devices, such as printers * What laws apply to software quality

Exactly what I expected
I received exactly what I expected in the condition in which it had been listed. Since I'd had the book before, I knew the content. I was concerned about the condition. If anything it was in better condition than the seller had stated.
New to testing...
A friend recently suggested I get into Software testing and honestly I never thought about it as a career choice. She suggested this and one other book as informative sources to get me started. Finding books on the subject alone was hard enough!
I haven't finished the book yet, but here's what I like
- Information is simply written and easy to understand so far. Not all text books do that and I appreciate when it is.
- This book isn't just geared to the subject matter experts or even people new to the subject. The preface addresses this and offers suggestions
- Each chapter starts by the writers telling you why that section is necessary, a brief summary and sometimes even outside references to follow up with.
The only bad thing I can say so far about this book is that there doesn't seem to be any updated versions. While I'm assuming that methodology doesn't really change, the book is already ten years old. I'm hoping that my opinions don't change as I get more in-depth, but if they do I'll come back and update this review.
Written by bureaucrats while they were on their vacation in an Ivory tower, long long time ago...
This book , in its most part, talks about the bureaucracy of testing not testing itself. The technical aspects, hints, tips, guidelines are all almost absent.
The book barely scratches the surface of the different kinds of tests and their related technicalities, e.g. unit test, Integration test, Regression test....etc... to add an insult to the injury, the brief mentionings of the tests are scattered in different parts of the book, so confusing. I would've imagined the book to lay them out in one chapter, compare them, show Strengths and Weaknesses for each test, write down the cost in terms of orders of magnitude and state at what phase of the project each test is invoked and how often....all that is missing...if that is what you looking for, you wont find the answer in this book.
What this book talks about, is who should report to who, how to approach developers and managers, how to format a bug report, how to test user manuals. Very superficial view of testing, the last two chapter, almost a 100 pages, out of 400, talk about how to manage a group of testers and legal consequences of testing! There is a chapter about testing printers, it is supposed to be an example of how to test, you will find the author talking about fonts and how printers work more than how to test them. There is a chapter about localization and globalization, again, it uses German, a language that English itself is derived from, as an example rather than using complete alien languages that are from right to left or from top to bottom with different letters, Hebrew, Arabic or Chinese.
The book assumes that every project has to go through certain bureaucracy, and based on that assumption it tells you what to do, but these assumptions only apply to big critical software projects that have many people working on them, like nuclear reactors or medical software, where the risk is too high, it's an overkill for testing and offers so little for the majority of the software industry crowd that works on small to mid size projects.
The book is outdated, you will find it recommending most of the books from the 1970's and early 80's...it is supposed to be a second edition and I have reasons to believe that since the first edition in 1988 there are a lot of good books out there. Also, when it mentions test tools, I haven't heard anything about nunit or junit or any of the famous testing tools or anything that even sounds like them,
Don't let the fact that it is a best seller fool you as it did to me, the book has been out for a while...there is only one thing wrong about CODE COMPLETE 2...IT RECOMMENDS THIS BOOK
Not for Computer People.
Within 5 minutes of looking at the book, I can definately say that the information is NON-TECHNICAL. It outlines stories of lawsuits regarding products, what to do when you are a manager, how to fill out a QA sheet. Not good if you are interested in programming.
BTW: publish date is 1988, not found on the amazon profile.
No testing experience? Read this and get that testing job anyway!
A recruiter suggested I read this book when I mentioned that the only software testing experience I had was testing my own work. I aced the interview, got the job and have been in the software testing side of things ever since. The book starts off with one of the best examples I've ever seen that takes the reader through a cycle of testing and covers it thoroughly yet is still simple enough to understand. No coding experience needed. It takes the reader from being an automaton that just executes steps to a tester that can think of others steps that will expose real problems that can be fixed. This is such a good book that I can't believe it is not required reading of every IT department. Not recommended for testers of life-critical systems but I'd recommend it for those testing everything else.

Finally! Silent opposition!
I confess.., I take too long to make my move. With this game I can stop annoying opponents while I'm becoming a better player. It worked perfect with Vista. I LOVE that you can play a game even if you only have about 15 minutes to relax and play. A great buy!
Scrabbe Champin Edition
Its very fast and makes playing easy and fun. It has the ability to give you hints and also has the Scrabble dictionary. It's a very good product for a modest price.
I purchased this as a prize for a class room
At the end of the school year I hold a class room Scrabble tournament I gave this as a prize along with the official Scabble Dictionary. The Students loved it.
Works for more than one laptop
The main reason I purchased this game was to load on mine and my daughters laptop, so that we can play while traveling. It loaded on both without issue, does not seem to add a bunch of "junk" when installing, and will play without the CD in the drive. The game itself is typical scrabble fun. Has settings for beginner to expert level opponents. Satisfied with the purchase.
scrabble
I love my new scrabble game. It has all the features my old one did. It works fine and was reasonably priced.

I should have read the reviews
I didn't realize this was a UK version of this program. My son can't understand the strong British accent, and therefore is not able to provide a correct answer to the questions. Very frustrating.....
Great
Yes, it has English accent.
If you prefer Texan or Newyorker or Californian accent
it is not for you.
Great program that doesn't lost focus
on the spelling in favor of nonsense entertainments.
Keep looking
The program has a nasty habit of crashing in Windows XP. It also uses British spelling, which was not mentioned in the product description. The program does not do a very good job of keeping kids engaged, as there seems to be more lecturing than actual spelling practice. I do not recommend this program.
boring
My child found the program boring -- too much lecturing & not enough practice. I also was disappointed in the unimaginative games they created to reinforce learning. Will buy something else instead & wish I could return the darn thing.
Would be great if it was the American version
I thought I found the perfect spelling program for my 10-year-old son. He doesn't understand spelling rules and wants to spell everything just like it sounds. This program was going really well and was helping him to understand the rules. The only problem is, it only gives the British spelling. Nowhere on this cd does it say UK version. I emailed the company, and they said they make an American version of this. I am not spending another $20 unless I can make sure it is the right one.
I have nothing against the British spelling, but I don't want to confuse him.
