PNY GeForce 8400GS 512MB video card PCI
My PNY GeForce card came softly packaged and not wastefully packaged. I got it early in the delivery window. I had a little difficulty changing out my AGP card for this PCI card, it requiredremoving drivers and changing the BIOS first - I got help from the manufacturer whose help desk whad polite and helpful (I only needed to call once). Once installed with the drivers the card worked beautifully.
Works Well
All I wanted to do is run two monitors and this video card enabled me to do so.
Choppy when used with PCI express card
I bought this card because I wanted to run a 3 montor setup and my board only had one pci xpress slot. There isn't a huge market for xpress x1 cards, so I had to go pci.
My main card (Asus 9600gt) is running my main monitor (so I can still game) and my hdtv (so I can use it with Windows Media Center).
This card that I am reviewing is only being used to run my second monitor (right next to my gaming/main monitor). I only use this card to drag folders and documents over to it. It stutters a bit when dragging and maximize windows. When dragging a document from the main monitor to this card's monitor it gets a little choppy. This is most noticeable when using the Windows 7 (x64) auto-maximize feature, when you drag a window to the top of the screen and it maximizes/minimizes it for you.
I dont play videos, games, movies, anything on this card. I just use it to help spread documents and folders across the 2 monitors, and for that it works fine.

It's OK
I bought this card to upgrade the Intel display adapter on my old PC with 2.8GHZ P4, 1GB RAM and Windows 7 because my Windows Experience Index was at 1.0 with current setup.
Installed with no problem, Windows 7 downloaded the correct driver automatically. But my Windows Index jump only to 2.1 which was a big disappointment for me. I tried to over clock this card with Riva Tuner but it didn't work. I tried the simple solution: Nvidia System Tools. I was able to increase memory clock speed from 333 MHz (666) to 500MHz (1000). After that my Windows Index jumped to 3.0 :)
I'm not able to watch 1080p movies or play high end video games because my P4 works at 99% when I try to do that but now I have support for the wide screen monitors, basic video games and 720p.
This is the least expensive card at Amazon, especially with the rebate. But I've noticed that EVGA card has the memory clock already set at 500/1000Mhz (check tech details). I didn't try it, but for $5 more it's a good deal.
Great dual monitor card, but not the best for games...
This Graphics card is designed for older computers that do not have a PCI-Express card slot. There are some limitations because of the speed that the PCI slot is capable of supporting. I feel that this graphics card is great for about anything aside from video gaming. It can handle movies and day to day computing just fine but the graphics are not up to par with many of todays higher end PCI-E graphics cards. I use these card for users that need to have two monitors and they work great for that purpose.

Not Even Close
I did some research on new video cards and didn't want to break the bank so I ordered this one. It was probably 10% faster than my onboard video card. I was going to use it to play mid level games such as the new Transformers: War for Cybertron game and Batman Arkham Asylum. The video etched along ever so slowly and I realized that I wasted my time and money on this card. I wound up getting a much better card Zotac nVidia GForce GT 220 for just 20 dollars more and couldn't be happier.
good card
works well used for build that does not do much gaming but may watch a movie on pc
Decent, affordable card
I watch a lot of movies and TV shows on my computer, many of them in hi-def. My embedded video chip worked fine for a while, but soon began to heat up after half an hour of use. So while this video card actually brought down my Windows Experience Index to 3.8, I can watch hours of HD video without this card heating up to 120 degrees Celsius, unlike my onboard video. (I'm guessing the onboard video had a higher rating because it had access to all of my RAM) Installation was a breeze. I updated the drivers when I first installed it and had no problem. Another excellent fact is that my computer only has a 300 Watt power supply, but this 350 Watt card works fine. The only problem so far with this card is that the fan is loud. My computer was fairly quiet before and now it is a little quieter than my XBox 360 (which is LOUD).
Excellent budget card
The 8400 GS was exactly what I needed: a video card w/ plenty of memory at low cost. Install was easy (recommend go to Nvidia website & install newest drivers- always;-)) & it runs quiet. I don't game, but for normal web/dvd video needs this card is great.
GeForce Graphics Card 8400 GS
This is a less expensive graphics card, but it operates fine for the action games that I have. Games such as "Call of Duty - World at War."

Great AGP Graphics card for the price!
Had to get this GPU when I upgraded to Windows 7. Works great with windows 7. Color settings are easy and give you plenty of options for most viewing needs. Mine is used primarily as a Media Center PC, so I stream TV, movies to my HD TV. So far no complaints. Would definitely recommend this for those who have older motherboards and need AGP cards.
sub-par performance under windowsXP
Really disappointed in performance of this video card. Screen is very fuzzy and driver is NOT allowing customization of refresh rate for my Princeton monitor. Unfortunately, the default data it retrieves is incorrect for my monitor. Result is poor display quality. Would NOT purchase again.
Works good w/ Linux drivers in Ubuntu.
A Great low cost Graphic Card
I wanted to play some low end games on my good ol 2004 Dell Optiplex GX-270 slim line computer. I also needed to have a low profile card, so after a bunch of looking around I came across this GeFoce 6200 512MB AGP card. These are not easy to find. After I read a bunch of reviews, and discovering I don't have much of a selection to choose from for low profile cards, this card fit the bill. After receiving my card from UPS I immediately installed it, and it loaded with out a hitch. For the price and availability this is a very nice card for boosting your graphics, for the average computer user.
Great Card For The Money
Used with XP and beyond. I got it to work with Windows 2000 after a lot of hunting and configuring a driver but I would not recommend it. For the money the performance can't be beat.
Easy to install. Does the job well.
I got a larger higher resolution monitor for an older PC and I needed to upgrade the video card to support it. Plugged the EVGA card in the AGP slot installed the driver and was up and running in minutes.
I like the fact it has a heat sink rather then an onboard fan. It makes the card thinner and easier to fit in the slot, makes no additional noise, and means one less moving part to wear out.
This is the 3rd computer in which I have installed an EVGA video card.
They are a good value, reliable and run flawlessly for years.

Cheap, Quiet Dual Monitor Setup
I just needed this for a work computer where I had dual monitors but didn't do much intense work with graphics. No problem with the install or usage yet.
250 Watt Power Supply
Installed into my new Compaq SR5710F (also purchased @ Amazon) and works fine. Box said it needed 300 watt power supply but EVGA tech support said it would work with a 250 watt, which it does very nicely. Great two monitor support.
Looking for a new stove?
I bought this card at new egg. The card installed fine after i turned off my onboard video. But now im in the process or looking for a replacement. My card at the moment is cooking at a nice 108 C... that heat sync isnt worth 10cents. Im haveing to blow a fan onto the card to get it down to 80C i wouldent recomend this card to anyone not even everyday users much less gammers... Turn away now! It may seem like a cheap alternative but dont trust it, just spend a couple dollars more to get a card with a fan!
Didn't Fit Motherboard
I was searching for pci cards, This one poped up didn
t know it was pcie until after purchase. I don't think pcie should show up in the searches if im looking for pci.
Dual monitors
This video card has both VGA and HDMI output connectors and uses simple, quiet, passive cooling. Prior to this card my computer had only VGA output provided by built-in video on the motherboard. I had hooked up my 42" HDTV as a 2nd (clone) monitor using an active VGA splitter, and this worked well. However, my TV (for whatever reason)offers more screen size options if I go in via HDMI rather than VGA, so I bought this card as an inexpensive way add an HDMI output to the computer. I wasn't looking for performance improvements, I just wanted to hook up my HDTV via HDMI while using VGA on my main monitor.
What has come as a pleasant surprise is that I have found I can now do more than have a clone monitor. I can now have two applications open full screen at the same time, one on each monitor using the NVIDIA video software that comes with this card! This is a real plus if your writing and often need to refer to a reference document. I found I can run a browser on my main monitor while simultaneously a computer DVD movie displays on the second monitor. From a mouse/cursor point of view the two monitors act like they are side-by-side. When I move my mouse off the right edge of the left monitor and its application, it enters the screen of the right monitor and its application. A click on an application screen determines which application the keyboard controls. While it takes a little time to set up (& the first time it took a day of fooling around to figure this out), it's a real improvement over constantly switching back and forth.
The supplied software has a 'dual view' mode that allows Windows XP (not sure if this would work in Vista which has some limitations) to run at different resolutions (at the same time) on the VGA and HDMI connectors, so you can optimize for each monitor. I am now running app#1 on my main 32" HDTV/monitor at 800x600 while I simultaneously run app#2 on my aux 42" at 1280x768. By leaving my VGA splitter hooked into the 42" VGA port, I now have two different computer views available on my 42" HDTV by switching its sources: 800x600 clone view of app#1 via VGA and 1280x768 view of app#2 via HDMI, and of course, the built-in TV tuner can still be selected too. Neat.

GeForce 9400 GT 1GB DDR2 PCI-E Graphics Card
This card works great! It replaced my original graphics card in my Dell XPS 410.
Very Good
I love it. The difference between my old card (GeForce 7300LE) and this one is huge. I can play games with High Graphics now. My configuration is:
- Core Duo 2 3.16Ghz;
- 4 mb RAM;
- Motherboard Asus P5Q Deluxe;
- Vista Ultimate 64.
I recommend.
They are great
The graphics card is cheap and inhences gaming quilty by alot, decent for price, good for games like WoW, may need something better for like Crisis or Fear
But good buy but look around I bought this a year ago so there may be better stuff
also never makes sounds or heats up nice cooling fan 5 star
Works Well on Windows Vista and 7 32 and 64 bit
I needed graphics cards for use in two computer set ups. One set of computers was running Windows 7 64bit and the others Windows Vista 32bit. The graphics card works fine in all computers. I teach video editing and effects and just recently upgraded to Adobe CS4 which is allot more graphics greedy then CS3. This meant I needed to upgrade our computers. We only have 2GB RAM which admittedly is less then ideal but I am not the person in charge of the company peruse and so have to make do with what I have. The graphics card worked like a charm in all the computers and is open GL 2.1 compatible which means Adobe AE, PS, and PR can all take advantage of this card. I went from glitchy editing to smooth editing. I am editing using NTSC DV .avi and .mp4. I would like to edit in high def. but I find I need more Ram. Over all this card is a very solid buy.
So far, so good!
I'm not a gamer, but I needed a replacement video card.
I hang on in Second Life a lot, and needed "something better"
to put in my PCIe slot
Apparently my case didn't have enough cooling for the old one,
and the old graphic card died. I modified my case for better cooling,
(exhaust air from CPU directly out of the side of the case)
and ordered this product.
I liked the value for the price, and it works.
It arrived in a timely manner in good condition.
I don't know what else to say except I hope it last longer
than the old one.

Pretty good
I was looking for a video card which would work for Linux. The card EAH4350 SILENT is fully functional. The only problem is that the enormous heat sink covers up a regular PCI slot (in addition to the PCIexpress where the card is plugged in). Of course the card needs to be cooled somehow; it is unlikely that the CPU fan helps cooling, because the card's PC board pretty much prevents circulation to the heat sink. I happen to have a fan on the side of the computer case, which I need to turn on; thus the SILENT feature is pretty much useless.
Good card for HTPC, don't expect too much out of it though
System setup: AMD single core 2.19 GHZ 2 Gig of ram used for HTPC. Olivia 720P hdtv 37"
Originally, I had a 256 MB card with a traditional fan. Worked OK until I tried streaming Netflix and playing HD content off a camcorder. I thought a new video card would fix this.
After buying and installing this card, Netflix worked somewhat better (through Boxee), the audio sounds great through the HDMI connection to my home theater setup, but the video quality through Netflix was only marginally better (didn't get really choppy at the end) and the HD content from camcorder wasn't really any better. On the plus side, through VGA (not HDMI for some reason) the screen size matches up perfectly at 720p setting and it's obviously quieter. The aspect ratio off Netflix is correct through Firefox, so I don't have to use Boxee anymore and it seems to run better that way.
All that to say, if you're trying to eke some more life out of your PC, the video card may or may not be the answer, but for $35 it may be worth a try. Didn't quite do what I wanted, but did some things better than my last card.
BTW, did display 1 gig of ram, not sure what that's all about, and if anyone has suggestions on why my computer won't display HD content well I'd love to hear your suggestions.
Good product CD driver is JUNK
This is a good video card except the drivers that come on the CD for it are complete junk. On Windows XP Media Center Edition (32 bit) the drivers that were on the CD caused the video card to freeze up and the computer became unusable. Throw away the CD and go to the ASUS website and download the latest drivers they work great.
------
On another note the heat sink on the video card is a bit large compared to other video cards in this class. I don't care though because I would rather have a large heat sink to cool the card better than a smaller one.
Check the dimensions first to see if the heatsink will fit your build
I'm sure the card would have worked well as the other reviews indicate. Unfortunately for me it was a bad fit for my motherboard and case. Notice that since it's designed to be low-profile the heatsink is placed very close to where it will go into the PCI-E slot, and sticks out pretty far in the back. This meant that once inserted into my motherboard the card's heatsink sat flush right over my southbridge heatsink, so that they were actually touching. Also, since I have a small micro-ATX case with only one HDD-bay, the SATA cable from the hard drive, as well as the front USB/power/LED cables all needed to cross that exact spot where the two heatsinks were touching. I was not comfortable having that much heat build right where all those important cables had to go, so I'll have to stick with the on-board video for now.
How can you go wrong?
My previous card stopped working. After a tiny bit of research on cards that would work in my computer, I selected this one. I'm not a gamer. I do basic computing. I chose this card because of the HDMI, AVI, & VGA outputs. Plus -- no whining fan on the video card. Two cards ago, in a different computer, I had a card with a fan that drove me nuts. I previously used a VGA output to go to my LCD monitor and an AVI to go to my older Sony 42" TV. Anyway, that's of little concern here as to how I'll hook up the TV and monitor. The real concern is how the card installed, etc.
I did not touch the CD's included with the card. I went to the AMD/ATI website and downloaded/saved the current drivers (catalyst software package/drivers). Took the old card out, uninstalled all video drivers/software, put the new card in, turned on the computer -- Windows XP Professional. Let it boot up and canceled out of the new hardward/controllers hardware messages. Went to the downloaded software/drivers package and ran it. Drivers/software installed with a reboot. Got a message that the HD audio drivers were not found. Let it search (recommended) for the HD audio drivers. Found them and installed. Rebooted. Worked -- no messages.
Have not gotten to the point of playing with the hookup to the TV as well as the computer monitor. Have done that before and expect no problems.
My point? If you're not a seriour gamer and require the greatest video card available, I just don't know how you can go wrong with this card. It's a bargain. I bought it off Amazon for $[...]+ with a $[...] rebate. Did read someboday else had a rebate problem, so I chose the ASUS $[...] rebate rather than the $[...] rebate to get expedited service. Thought that might alleviate an eventual "where is it" problem. So, for about $[...] I have a video card that's silent, and I can direct video either to my monitor or stream Netflix movies to my TV.
I'm guessing anybody who would have a problem with this card may just not have the system requirements matchup to run it. Go to AMD/ATI before purchase and you can see what systems it works in. Get rid of all your old video software/drivers first, install the new card, and then run the ATI software from their site.
Oh, yeah. Somebody else reported receiving a card with more memory than expected. Me too. The card is advertised as 512MB and the ASUS packaging indicates 512MB on the box. However, after installation, the system information reports it as 1024. Don't know how that's happening!

I purchased this card to expand my setup from 2 to 3 monitors. I already own a 9800 GT which I use for rendering most games I play. From my experience, I would recommend this card if you do not have the money to spend on a higher end card. However, if you want the most bang for your buck, I would recommend going with a 9800 GT or a similar card.
No HD
I replaced a lesser model graphic card for this and didn't see a noticeable difference. I was hoping at least 720 videos would play well, if not 1080, but no luck.
BEST PCI VIDEOCARD FOR OLDER/LIMITED UPGRADES
I bought this card for my cousins Dell Dimension 3000 (2.8ghz P4 Prescott, 2gb DDR3200, 80gb HD, 12x DVD-RW, 305w 17a 12v RAIL Stock P.S.) It works flawlessly and 10x better then the stock Intel 865 Graphx w 8mb!!!! I had to upgrade the PowerSupply about a week later after it blewout....got a $40 POWER COOLING by OCZ 375w P.S. wit a 25a 12v Rail and everything been flawless ever since!!!! (EVGA HAS IT RATED FOR 300W 18A 12v RAIL)

does the job
i needed an inexpensive, reliable card. it works exactly as i need. no probs whatsoever
runs dual monitors great!
I got this to go in a Dell Optiplex 960 (compact chassis) my employer gave me to use for work from home. The integrated video in the Dell only had one video out (VGA) but it did have a low profile PCIe x16 slot available so I bought this card to replace the on-board video and allow me to run dual monitors. I'm using the DVI out and the cabled VGA out on two flat screen monitors in Windows 7 x32 with no issues. Before I installed the card I downloaded the latest version of the Catalyst 4500 series drivers from ATI's support site and installed those -- didn't even bother with the included driver CD (which is probably junk bundled trial software). Works great with the ATI drivers. So, for what I am using it for -- a work system, no games, dual fairly high resolution monitors and no HDMI (yet), I give it a 5 out of 5 because it works in that capacity PERFECT. And for the price -- Wow.
Not so good for me
I read all the good reviews before buying it and it came on time in good order. It was for a Media Center Computer, not a Gaming machine, since it has an HDMI port. I installed into a new Compaq Win7 machine to replace onboard chip. Everything was fine for two days. Then I turned off the machine, and it would not restart (wouldn't even POST) until I pulled the card. So I put it into an older Compaq XP machine and it was fine for two more days. Then out of the blue, my screen went into a Herringbone pattern and wouldn't display properly until I removed the card.
I'm not a kid (in my 60's.) I have a degree in CompSci and build systems as a hobby. I did all the right things on install and got latest drivers for the card but no joy. Both machines have 400W + power and I conclude the card was defective. Amazon was very good about returning for refund, and I bought an HD 4350 card that works fine.
Every now and then a good company or a good product is defective. I suggest buying from Amazon since their return policy is great if you need it. You can even print a prepaid postage label when you do the return process, so you don't even have to go to the Post Office. Go Amazon!!
Sapphire is a Gem!
I have a Dell Dimension 9200 Core 2 Duo system which recently refurbished with the fastest hardware components I could find that are plug and play. I recently ran various benchmarks for its components. I was surprised to find that my video card was an Achilles Heel, less than half the performance of any other component. To see what I mean I'll just give a simply example that anyone could replicate on their own computer. You can simply run Windows 7's Performance Tools (from the Control Panel) and you'll see that Windows Experience Index makes assessments between 1.0 and 7.9 of a number of components. Everything in my system was 6.1 or over. The video card, however, was only 3.1. Quite a difference! There are many more sophisticated benchmarks that can be run to validate findings from multiple sources.
Anyway, I was looking for a reasonably priced video card that would approach the same kind of performance as the other components. This Sapphire Radeon HD4550 512 MB DDR3 Video Card not only did the trick, but beat all the other components. I read the reviews here and made my decision based on that.
It is simple to install. Just shutdown your system, replace the old card with the Sapphire. Power up! Windows 7 recognized the card and installed its own drivers and software. Upgrade this with the software that came in the box. Check for updates to get the latest version, and that's it! It's Cookbook! And, it was a great price!
Just a caution: that one of the requirements is a 300-watt Power Supply.
Cured my Headache
I bought my son a refurbished dell Optiplex GX620 small-form-Factor after his P.C.'s mother board went.
Unfortunately, his onboard graphics were not enough to play his games. The Psu is only 280W, and there is no Psu upgrade available for this machine. This cut my options down considerably. I also needed a low profile card, further reducing my options.
I opted for this card after i saw many positive reviews.
It was the right choice!
It was easy to install in the machine (I had to change it to the low profile brackets).
It was a breeze to install the software.
My son was able to play STALKER with no issues.
