Love this deck!
This is my first tarot deck and I must say it's fantastic. I wanted to start out with this deck, since it is the basic tarot deck. I've done countless readings for myself, family, and friends and have even turned non-believers into believers who ask me for a reader before they do anything. I connected with this deck right away and about 95% of my readings have been deadly accurate. I would recommend this deck to anyone starting out with tarot.
The Key to the Tarot booklet was a bit hard to get used to for meanings for me personally, so I use another book that helps explain the meanings of each card more in-depth.

Overall I am pleased
There were a few comments here about the cards being too rough and more of interest to those interested in the history then in the art. That is true. The style is art nouveau here more then in the newer decks. Some of the newer art looks like the worst sort of shallow New Age-y stuff. On the other hand some of them are gorgeous. If you go for the simplest version this is probably it. It promises there will be no odd variation and it is beautiful in a certain way. On the other hand rivers and other details do not show up, there is colour run-through, and the colours themselves are a bit odd. The back is not gorgeous.

Good shipping time, got it before I expected to. Little book is very nice and I like the box.

Begin learning with this one

I used to carry cards in a store I once owned, not just Tarot but all kinds of intuitive cards to help unlock one's higher consciousness. If you are interested in Tarot, you must start with Rider Waite. All the symbols, colors, actions are in this deck and will equip you with the savvy for more abstract decks. Personally, I love the Crowley deck, a true work of art, but I began here.

beautiful and easy to understand
I love the illustrations on this deck and the booklet that comes with it makes reading these cards easy. I've done readings with friends before and understanding positions and meanings was complicated. I used them with two friends when I first got them and we were flipping through the book to get interpretations easily. I'm not adept at this by any means but I like this deck and the booklet.

My favorite deck.
I don't usually review items on Amazon, but I'm going to make an exception with this oracle deck. First of all, no. This deck isn't a traditional Tarot deck. It's an Oracle deck. I have 2 other decks, a Universal Rider-Waite deck, and the Osho Zen Tarot Deck. This deck is my favorite out of the 3 because it's just so simple to use, and it's VERY intuitive! For some reason, this deck seems to pretty much always be right on the money. And the titles of the cards themselves are just so simplistic and self-explanatory it's hard not to understand a reading. You don't have to wade through books and pages of text to get the basic ideas and meanings of each card - which is sometimes refreshing to even someone who uses regular Tarot decks often.

The Guidebook that comes with the deck is well put together and easy to follow. John Holland does a good job of explaining easy methods to use the deck. The deck was designed to be as quick, simple, or complicated as you wish. Of course you can always pretty much make up your own rules as far as spreads and stuff like that go for any deck, but using this deck in creative ways is always really fun and very revealing.

As far as the quality of the cards go, well I've had mine for about 4 or 5 months, and they're still holding up quite fine. I don't use them all the time. At first glance the cards did appear to be somewhat cheaply made - almost like the ends of them would split or come apart quite easily. The gold border is very pretty. The illustrations are modern and nice, but it's nothing to be astonished about. I'd recommend this oracle deck to someone who doesn't like using the confusing regular Tarot cards, and I'd also recommend it to the Tarot experts who just like something different and more simplistic every now and then.

An Amazing Deck!
This is a very innovative and beautiful deck. The imagery is very effective. The updated Major Arcana is inspired. So much easier to read than the older decks. I instantly connected with this deck and will be using it for a long time. Thank you!

Brilliant Colors, Cosmic Images, A New Take on Tarot
I bought this Tarot deck having deliberated over this and several other products. I have been practicing reading the Tarot and other oracles, cards and otherwise, for almost 9 years now, and so far this is the first tarot deck I've come across with distinctly brilliant colors, cosmic images and actual cards that feature the 7 chakra centers. I also like his usage of four colors on the Minor Arcana to represent the Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual bodies. I also like the fact that the people in the Minor Arcana, while appropriately generic, are modern-looking. I think my personal favorite Minor Arcana card in this deck is the Eight of Wands, as there is a woman looking upwards at a star-filled sky with several meteors streaking through the atmosphere. This creates the perfect allusion to the meaning of the card (messages coming in at great speed), plus I'm partial to spacescapes anyway. ;-)

My only issue with this deck is that it does not have the usual court cards that other Tarot decks do. Why is this an issue? Because one thing I've discovered with the more traditional-style decks is that if you're inquiring about a person with particular elemental qualities (Water, Earth, Air and Fire), it's definitely helpful to have the court cards to represent that person.

John Holland's deck, however, does not have this traditional setup, so if you're dead set on using court cards as significators, you'll have to use one of your other decks (if you have more than one deck you use) in conjunction. OR, if this is the first deck you've ever bought at all, one could probably use the Major Arcana cards with specific archetypes on them (the High Priestess or Magician, for example) to use as 'representatives' for your people-centered queries.

Other than that, this is a brilliant deck that, again, can be used in conjunction with other Tarot decks as "helpers," so to speak.If nothing else, buy it for the artwork, as it's brilliantly done. I especially like the Magician card in the Major Arcana. Unlike other Mage cards I've seen, he looks very real, appropriately wise-looking with what I've often taken to be something of a smirk on his face, like he's waiting for the reader to look within and figure out the answer for him/herself at some point. It's a great reminder for me, at least, to look within and quit depending on others for "the answers."

If you're an old hand at Tarot and feeling adventurous, or are new to the whole divination thing but want images that don't completely smack of Golden Dawn or the Roscicrucian Order (a la Pamela Coleman-Smith and Arthur Waite), this is your deck!

Splendid Deck
I was a bit reluctant about this deck at first - It just seemed a bit overdone, but then I started using it regularly and have absolutely fallen in love with it. It has lovely imagery, a lush hand feel and the gold edges are a real plus. The book that comes with the deck is a real treat - lucid and well presented.

Beautiful deck.
The artwork in this deck is one of the most beautiful I have seen in a deck. The imagery and symbolism in each illustration helps you understand the meaning of each card. The book that accompanies the deck is helpful. Also, it all fits in a cute little box!

A great divination tool-Profound & Helpful
This is the best deck for divination that I have found. I was using the Rider/Waite deck and I also have the Goddess deck by Doreen Virtue. This Zen deck perhaps because it was inspired and designed with the help of a spiritual teacher is just right on target. By that I mean the text is quite clear and the meanings are not fuzzy or interpretive. It tells you this is what's happening! A lot of the meanings relate to spiritual development, even the ones that relate to minor arcana are extremely helpful and honest, they often give a psychological explanation as well. The text is all done in Osho's trademark, funny but brutally honest style and are excerpts from his talks/books. And I've found it to be amazingly on target. The artist was also supposed to be a student of tarot and a spiritual student. I've been recommending it to friends since experiencing the clarity of this deck for readings. Highly recommended.

I cannot think of enough words to describe how great this deck is. I was skeptical at first, based on decks I've had in the past. The book doesn't have the vague answers that most contain- it is very aptly zen. The artwork is breathtakingly beautiful. It's actually caused me pause on readings because I would get so focused on the art (and the story it holds). The readings themselves are like a form of meditation. Definitely the best of all tarot decks I've used, this is my go-to deck.

I loved these the minute I opened them they are so beautiful and without the long and overdrawn explanations for the cards just simple and very wise. I would be very happy to review this book, but unfortunately I still haven't received it! I'm afraid there's another tarot lover at the post office who has stolen my book, cause a few months ago I didn't receive 2 tarot decks, either. This has actually never happened in the past, I have ordered a lot the last many years! Nevertheless, I give it 5 stars, because I'm sure it is an awesome book!

Great for beginner's
I purchased this set from Amazon and another set from a different store. The other set is nice, but these cards are much easier to handle. The book is easy to understand and I began reading cards right away. The other set isn't as user friendly and I have found I enjoy the Easy Tarot set much more. It's worth it to purchase.

Great for Beginners!
This a great set for beginners. It has easy to read instructions, and a large piece of paper to help teach you how to layout the cards. The art work is beautiful. I would recommend this set to anyone, new or not!

Excellent Deck and Book for Beginner or Experienced
I have been reading Tarot cards for many years and have used several different decks. I came across this deck and book when I was looking for a deck and book set that would benefit a new reader. While many people suggest starting with the traditional style Rider-Waite, I found the colors dull and the images lacking. This deck is beautiful and inspiring, and the accompanying book is very well-written and organized in a very thoughtfully-planned way. The learning method suggested is one of the simplest yet effective plans for learning and interpreting the cards in a realistic and meaningful manner, and is also an excellent way for an experienced reader to re-connect with the cards or to attune to a new or different deck.

This set gets high marks from me and I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in Tarot.

Classic Golden Dawn era tarot
This is the classic tarot which students of Golden Dawn teachings enjoy using. This is a very popular deck with many people, although it's not my favorite. It's been around for over 100 years, and will stay with us, although the original tarot cards were developed much earlier and much more beautiful decks are available by so many contemporary artists these days. The old imagery seems contrived and stilted. Reading the flyer that comes with the cards helped me understand why I was frustrated with the images. Apparently the artwork was highly directed and the artist felt that she had been overworked and underpaid. From this comes the drudgery felt in the images.

The readings from this deck are predictable and honest, in a limited way, but very short-term and uninspired although well-intentioned. With an artist more interested in the subject matter, this deck would possibly give much better readings. As it is, the work is mostly a rudimentary graphic presentation of a more inspired author who apparently did not feel he knew how to draw. How this deck became popular probably has more to do with the scholarship and research behind it, rather than the graphic images.

All in all, it's not a bad deck. I simply believe that, as a graphic work, it's very over-rated. With more financial compensation and inclusion in the inspiration behind the images, instead of a director-servant relationship that seems to be expressed in this deck of cards, I wonder if this tarot would not only be historic and respected, it may have also been a great deck.

As it is, the deck is a respected relic. There are much more inspired tarot decks, which give much greater insight than this tired old text book of an exercise. RIP.

Simple
Well knowing, good tarot for every day use and prediction. You can find a lot of suggestion how to use it everywhere. I would recomended for a beginrs and the rest

Service was great. Minor irritation with the product.
I received the deck very quickly with out any problems.
The only problem was that the pictures on the cards aren't vertically centered on about half of the deck.
It looks as though the top part of the cards were "cut off". It wasn't worth complaining to Amazon about.
This would not deter me from ordering another product of like kind again.
I'm just happy to have my Rider Waite Tarot Deck back.

best tarot deck for beginners
This is the best tarot deck for beginners and even intermediate and advanced readers love it. It is a classic deck and the one everybody things about when they think of tarot. If you see tarot cards on television, this is the deck used.

This deck makes a great gift. It has beautiful art work, a small book which shows the meanings of the cards as well as a card with the history of the deck. I found this especially interesting and it made me love the deck even more!

I use this deck more than any other, but....
there are a few things I don't like about it. I was originally attracted to the artwork and after I used the deck for a while it soon became my favorite out of about a dozen decks. Most of the images are great and I get great readings, I agree with some other reviews that there are a few that seem a little jarring if you are assuming the traditional meaning. It is definitely a feminine deck with female figures in many of the traditional male cards, I happen to like that.
I would have given this deck an enthusiastic 5 stars until I went to the artist's website and saw the original work. Stunningly beautiful with vibrant colors. Llewellyn really messed this deck up. The yellow tones and the borders taking up so much space to not do justice to the original images. If it is ever reprinted in full color and a slightly bigger size I would grab one.

OK, but didn't meet my expectations ...
I purchased this deck as part of my collection, feeling they would appeal to high school aged clients. I DO feel they will do just that, primarily because the overall sense one gets from the deck is "dark" energy. In the same breath I must say that it's a shame that so much of the symbology is too small to be seen in the format provided. I feel they are very creative cards and are easily read per maintaining much of the classic imagery of the Rider-Waite decks but, again, it is frustrating to not be able to readily show your client what you are referring to. On a personal level, I was disappointed to see that the majority of the "persons" depicted in this deck are female and quite often the facial expressions don't honor the classical intent or meaning for that card. I was tempted to send the deck back for a refund, but realized that by time I paid postage and handling, I would have nearly paid for the deck again.

This deck was EXACTLY what I needed!

This deck resonated with my soul as soon as I saw it! I knew it was the deck for me! It just arrived yesterday and I LOVE it! The artwork is surreal, dream-like, and inspires the imagination! I am a Witch, but until recently, I have been hesitant to try divination. As soon as I had this deck in my hand I felt like I needed to start using them. The style of the artwork and the intuitive questions with each make them PERFECT for meditation, dream work, creative writing, and RPG's! They are also excellent for readings. The intuitive questions may throw people who feel the need to follow strict guidelines and rules, but I found them quite useful. There is an element of the Dark Goddesses about all of the artwork which is a rare find! Every card is captivating-not just the Major Arcana like in some tarot decks.

However, just because this deck was the right one for me does not mean it will be for everyone. No deck is for everyone. I looked at literally EVERY tarot deck Amazon sells to find "my" deck. I would recommend everyone doing the same. Always follow your own intuition, especially with something as special as your tarot deck.

Cute book Cards a disappointment
I bought these cards to see the art work. There is so much talk about the beautiful art work on them. The art work is okay. I think if you are a professional artist. You'll see the problems that I saw. But most people don't care about that stuff. SO the deck has it's bonuses. It's imaginative, pretty and huge.

The book is cute and fun writing style. She is very imaginative with the story concept. I really enjoyed the fun atmosphere she creates in the writing.

The packaging, is beautiful. I half to say, that the outside of the box got me to purchase it. Though I'm disappointed with the artist work on the cards. It's okay, not every card has to be perfect.

I'm not trying to be mean or harsh on the artist. The mistakes I saw were things like color mistakes, blurred edges, inconsistent lighting effects and modeling expression issues, and to much stock work. But I only wish that someone would have scanned in a large resolution image so I could have seen the mistakes before hand.

My guess, is that there wasn't a lot of critical critiques going on during the making of the cards. My professors of art would fail me if I turned in work like this. But they are way picky and hard on me to.

Overall, I'm impressed! The artist did a huge body of work. It's mostly original. The packaging is beautiful, the book is well written and the cards are good enough for most people with out the artist critiquing eye. School has ruined me. Now, I see mistakes in art and typography.

These cards contain beautiful art, and even more important is that they are a great tool for anyone who wants to get more insights and would like to recieve messages on a constant basis.

In comparison to other DV Cards these leave much to be desired, it says ascended Masters yet there are only twelve , she I don't know if it's by publishing pressure to produce , has included, Gods and Goddesss from many religions connected but having nothing to do with ascended masters I would have loved to have seen the deck repeat other images with other messages from the Masters , then to mix Gods and Goddesses that have nothing to do with Ascended masters , I find this deck is and can be very misleading for the person who does not know the ascended masters. It lacks accuracy and adds false illusion to those in the spiritual world of truth.

II find Ms Virtue failed on this Deck I am sure it may be Publishing Pressure ,

Yet be AWARE to look at the messages for guidance but they are not all Ascended Mastera at all,

She even includes African Orisha oshun wich would be more for the Goddess Deck as many others Laxmi, etc. yemaya is in the Goddess.

I think it's a nice deck , but not all truth.

Easy Connection to Cards
Both my daughter and I both think this set of cards is very pretty with shiny gold edging and gorgeous pictures of Ascended Masters. I made a very easy connection this set. I usually have a question in my mind while I shuffle the deck and wait for the appropriate card to fall out thus providing guidance to what's on my mind.

For the past year I've been up but mostly down emotionally with where I am currently living and job placement even though it was exactly what I requested. So I asked for guidance about my current situation and the message on the card that fell out was "I do not see the blessing in my current situation that I needed to find it, acknowledge it so I can move on with my spiritual path." This is of course a reflection of the truth.

I would definitely purchase these cards again.

AMAZING right from the start!
As a professional reader I know it takes time to tune in with the cards, but these cards are truly amazing. I asked a basic question. I use the professional name of GayPsychic and I asked if I should keep using that name. I pulled Atistic Expression, so I asked again in a different way, and again I pulled the same card. So again I decided to test the cards. I said if I pull the same card for the 3'rd time then I'll keep using the name. Well while shuffling Archangel Michael's Card "You Can Do It" flopped out so I kept the card out, kept shuffling, cut the deck and pulled out "Come out of the closet" OMG if that wasn't the answer I don't know what would be.

Truly amazing even right out of the box!

Useful and Interesting Insights Developed
This is a workbook. The author introduces 21 different ways of working with/reading the tarot cards, each of which is followed by one or more "activities" for the reader to complete. Some are quite simple requiring only a few minutes to complete, while other activities require additional time and a quiet space in which to relax and relate to their cards.

Much of this book is about 'feeling' your connection with the tarot cards, which is an interactive process. While entertaining to read, its greater value is reserved for those who work with their cards along the way. And as promised, the 'cards spoke to me' revealing new concepts and meanings.

I expect anyone who follows the author's lead will discover new meanings offered by their cards. They may even discover a thing or two about themselves. And isn't that part of the reason we work with our cards?

A Few Wonderful Ideas amid the Chaff
I am doing an in depth study of the tarot, one major arcana card a month, and this idea seemed perfect for me. 21 lessons to learn in a month, roughly one a day with a few days off here and there! In reality, a few of the "ways" were repetitions, some were not ways to read at all (select a card. Well, um, yea...)

All in all, it was a good idea with some very wonderful things to say, but overall I found it disappointing. I've come up with my own 21 ways, some based on her ideas, many not.

I would never have found this gem if it hadn't popped up on a reader list. I never would have ordered if the reviews weren't wonderful. The reviews were absolutely right by the way. If you are ready to dig in and go beyond the keywords on a deck, or some stilted memorized meanings, this is it. She gives you a wonderful series of exercises to dig in in every way imaginable. Greer does not dip into the occult, or list out all the symbolism, she leaves that to others. What she does is get you to look at what you need to focus on your perceptions.

Son, I am disappoint.
I was excited to see this deck, I thought it would be beautiful and vibrant, but sadly it, is not. The cards are printed in China and look cheap and childish, sigh. I'll see if I can get my money back or somthing.

Clear, Concise, with a Sense of Humor!
I hadn't read tarot in years, and while I still take very good care of my vast collection of cards, I must admit they've been gathering dust. I work for a major bookstore, and for the last 6 months, I've been walking by the Deviant Moon deck. It always seemed to draw my interest, but while I would sometimes even pick it up, I didn't buy it until yesterday, when finally the deck seemed to just insist that I get it.

I called up my friend and asked him if I could take the cards out for a test drive with him. Usually, what I like to do is go through the cards, and at least look through the deck and get familiar with it before I dive into a reading. Especially because I find those 'artlsy' decks to be more advanced if you aren't already familiar w/tarot imagery. BUT, my friend was very IMPATIENT, and insisted that I take the new cards, riffle, shuffle, cut, x amount of times for his reading...as much as it made me cringe, I did as he asked, and my reading was so amazingly clear, concise, and just really spot on. The cards often gave me LITERAL meanings with the picture. For example, the question was about his career in our company as we're also work colleagues. He had worked before for Tower records, was high up and involved in the music industry. He has many times told me, and I quote him exactly, "My world was turned UPSIDE DOWN when Tower went out of business, I had vested so much time in that company and I thought that was going to be my career". When we did his spread, I literally laughed out loud because the card for distant past- South Card in the C.C. spread was "World Reversed". I couldn't believe it. It was almost freaky that the cards were so literal, and it was a testament to their accuracy and humor that they literally showed in pictures a phrase he used regularly when describing his past experience with his lay off.

The pictures just really speak to you. You don't necessarily need to dig deep for the answers. I did find myself double checking in the booklet, but all of my first impressions of the cards were the intended meanings- and some of the phrases I used to describe the cards were verbatim in the booklet- which I hadn't seen beforehand. I literally opened the deck with my friend and used them on him....and it was the clearest, best, reading I had given anyone ever. I was able to easily go with the flow and give the reading, and didn't have to awkwardly pause and look stuff up like I usually have to do when I'm out of practice. Even though I believe books and guides are just guidelines, every deck speaks differently to each reader, sometimes the new beautiful decks can be harder to interpret if you're unfamiliar or unpracticed.

I am far from expert, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Deviant Moon tarot to anyone, beginner to expert who admires the deck but may feel intimidated b/c of their own perceived skill level. There was a steady flow of consciousness, it was just amazing. I loved it so much, that I just ordered today (after buying it 18 hours ago) the Limited Edition Deviant Moon deck to keep w/my "collector edition" tarot decks. As you can see, I was also motivated to post on this tarot forum after 3 or 4 years.

Anxiously awaiting the next special edition trump set...

Strange Deviant Moon Tarot
This is my first Tarot deck. Probably should have gone the safe route first. These cards are Soooo deviant that they are haunting, and I will probably not use them. I'm going to look for a set that's 'friendlier'. However, they are good quality, and came rapidly, as ordered.

Great deck, JUST MAKE SURE IT'S.....
I absolutely love this deck, I have been studying and doing tarot for 12 years. Though at first sight this deck may appear to stray too far from the usual Rider Waite meanings, it actually adds to them...such as the Chariot card, (so much deeper and makes the meaning jump right out!!!) BUT...if you choose to buy or order this deck make sure it's printed in ITALY, NOT CHINA!!!!! I have a deck printed in Italy, and the cards are absolutely stunning. They are glossy, rich, vibrant and printed on quality flexible stock that is easy to handle and shuffle. After seeing my cards a friend of mine decided to order a deck herself and received one that was printed in China and she was furious when she compared hers to mine!!! The one printed in China is made on stiff, lower quality card stock which makes the deck way thicker than the Italy deck. They are very difficult to shuffle without feeling like you might bend one in half. But that's not the worst of it, the most disappointing difference is the quality of the imagery. The China deck's images are way less vibrant and have a completely matte finish!!! The China deck is extremely low quality and renders the deck mediocre and unimpressive. Make sure your deck is printed in Italy so that you can fully enjoy the experience that is the Deviant Moon Tarot. A truly captivating and stunning tarot deck.

A bit dark for my tastes
I am an experienced reader and have owned numerous decks in my lifetime.

While beautiful, I found these cards a bit dark and ominous for my tastes. The deck is also difficult to shuffle, because of their large size. While these might be very good for someone aligned to the energies of this deck, it didn't work for me and the people I showed it to who weren't readers were off-put by the dark imagery as well.

Lovely artwork, but the energy and size are not good for me.
