Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras
This telephoto zoom lens is designed with Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology while retaining compactness and lightness, in response to demands of photographers. This high zoom ratio lens is equivalent to a focal length of 88-400mm in the 35mm format (when used on Canon EOS cameras compatible with EF-S lenses), and the image stabilizer effect equivalent to a shutter speed about 4 stops faster than the same size lens without Image Stabilizer. In other words, if the slowest shutter speed you could formerly hold a 250mm lens steadily was 1/250th of a second, with Canon's 4-stop stabilization correction, you could hand-hold at shutter speeds as slow as 1/15th of a second. It also uses a UD-glass lens element to correct chromatic aberration for excellent image quality throughout the zoom range. This new EF-S telephoto lens with great features delivers excellent performance at an affordable price for all photographers.

unlucky user experience
I bought this lense because I've already got the 18-55mm lense when I bought my CANON 450D. When I just got this new lens, I was very excited, but after I put it on, and did some test shots, I was confused. whenever I pressed down the shutter, from the view finder, I first saw a little shake of the lens, then heard the click sound. Then, I tried it a couple of more times, the same thing happened. Then, I took it off and re-installed it again. I thought maybe something didn't hook up correctly. Unfortunately, still had that little shake when I pressed the shutter. At last, I had to return it to seller. Maybe I'm the only unlucky person? But now, I'm looking for some other lens.
quick delivery, hans't tried out yet
Quick delivery, still havn't received the camera that was in the same order, therefore hasn't had a chance to try it out.
Another good addition to my Canon lens collection.
I have used Canon products exclusively since my first purchase in 1960, with countless Canon cameras since my first Canon FT SLR. I did not think that a zoom lens in this price range could be as good as this 55-250 mm is proving to be. I would certainly recommend this lens to any Canon user who wishes to try this zoom range and is budget minded. After doing much research concerning lens tests, etc, before my purchase, I must say that it is exceeding my expectations already.
Great lens period - especially for the money
I have been using the 55-250 for about 90 days. I didn't purchase it from Amazon although I wish I had. I could have saved 50 bucks. At the time I got the lens, I didn't fully understand the importance of "fast lenses" this lens does not qualify as a "fast lens" however, for the money...I consider this my best buy. I have the 18-55, 50mm 1.8, and the 100mm macro....all Canon. The 100mm macro is my favorite, but the 55-250 is right behind it and much more versatile. The range and the IS "image stabilization" are the main good points of the lens. I love the fact you can go form 55-250 as the name of the lens suggests. If I had more money, I would buy a 2.8 lens...something like a 70-200 2.8 IS. However, for a quarter the price, this lens has much to offer. You will need to count on using it outside or in good light. When fully zoomed in to 250mm it's a little sketchy, but I love the lens and would buy it again today. Don't even think about getting a non IS lens that has more range but no IS! It's well worth it. If this lens was a 4.0 steady throughout the range, it would be a great lens. As it is.....it's nearly great. You just have to watch the lighting. Highly recommended especially for beginners or people on a budget. You will love it!
Worked as expected
This lens worked as I expected it too. It is a good product for the money. It does exactly as it is supposed to.

Identical to the one I lost
Bought this for the kit lens (18-55mm) on my Rebel XTi to replace one that I lost, and as far as I can tell, it's identical to that one. Good price.
Not sure what to think
Amazon lists this as $31.04 with shipping at $3 and change, but when I go to check out, wants me to pay $14+ for shipping!!! This can be purchased direct from Canon for $8.50, not sure what the shipping is, but I'll bet it's less than $30 dollars. What's up Amazon? Found on a reputable camera supplier site for $8.50 with $4.95 S&H. Normally very happy with amazon pricing, but this is not OK.
Edit - Seems Amazon removed this item from the seller, so comments may not apply.
How do I return?
I bought this product and it didn't fit the camera lens. The clips were the wrong style or something. I sent an email to five star experience because I couldn't return it through amazon. The lens cap was in good shape but I obviously can't use it. If someone could please let me know how I can return this product I would greatly appreciate it.
Does not fit on Canon PowerShot SX20IS
I could not get the Canon E-58U lens cap to fit on my CanonPowershot SX20IS. I am returning it. The 58mm UV filter did not fit either. I will probably go on line with Canon to find a UV filter and lens cap that will work.
lens cap
Ordered this to replace the one that fell off and got lost for my camera, it was the wrong size, specifically put my exact model in and this is the one they sent me. There is NO replacement for my exact model at this time....Total Waste.

Job done
Well...not much to say really. Got it for my Pentax K-x (EXCELLENT camera) to clean the lenses. Does the job and does it well.
Great tool to have in your bag.
I have used this to remove finger prints from filters, and it was very handy recently when I had to fix one of my zoom lenses that I broke. While diagnosing the problem, I put a fingerprint on one of the elements inside of the lens. This little champ erased it like it was never there. Love the charcoal end to clean the smudges so effortlessly.
Good for occasional fingerprints.
For the convenience and price and compact size, this product works great. For absolutely spotless squeaky clean, use Nikon Lens cleaner or Residual Oil Remover on clean microfiber cloth and clean
Compact and easy to use
Bought it for my D90 to make a cleaning kit to fit the pocket
There are some cheapos for fraction of this price
they may do good but I went to branded ones....
Any how I keep my gears clean so minimal use for these items.
I used the brush to clean dust and small particles on the filters (never expose you lens glass) and some times to dust off my camera body
The felt cup/tip to clean smudges / finger prints on the glass
Its worth having to maintain your grands worth of gears
Very Disappointed Lifetime Nikon User
I've used Nikon products for 40 years, a veritable Nikon fan, but I wouldn't recommend that anyone buy this pen. When I saw this lens pen I thought it was a great idea to have such a compact cleaning system that I could put in my pocket, and I really wanted to like the product. So I was quite surprised and disappointed to discover that this pen is as useless as it is, and I think you could actually damage your glass with it very easily.
The pen didn't remove many smudges while it merely smeared around other ones, and leaves behind some kind of film/coating and occasionally tiny sparkly bits that I had difficulty removing. When I pressed the tip onto paper the pen left a black ring on the paper, so now I need to clean my filter with tissue and cleaner to get rid of what the pen left behind. The cloth material glued to the tip fell off the first time I used it.
The tip consists of a rigid stem and kind of looks like a miniature plumber's helper. A thin piece of material is glued to the stem, which fell off the stem the first time I used it. I'm not very comfortable using this rigid stem, where there is very little give, on my expensive glass. It seems like it would be too easy to press too hard on a nasty smear and damage the glass. When one uses one's finger the pressure is spread over a larger area and is softer on the lens. Since you can't clean the tip, the tip will accumulate dirt over time which will scratch the lens.
So I recommend that you stay away from this product, and instead use lens tissue (not a reusable cloth that will also accumulate grit over time) and sparingly use a good lens cleaning solution. The retractable brush is nice, but I use a camel hair make-up brush that also retracts.

Handy
Used similiar product before and this one is just as good. Fulfills it's intent completely
Lens Cap Keeper
I purchased this very inexpensive item just in time to receive it for our family vacation to Washington D.C.. Well, over this week vacation I took 600 pictures and absolutely LOVED having this little helper to hold on to the lens cap. I would have lost the cap if not for this little item. This cap keeper went on easily, it just has a sticky back and sticks on to the cap, it has an elastic band that attaches to the strap of the camera and I adjusted it so it would stay at the base of the camera. I have a Canon SX20IS (which I love) and when I turn the camera on and the lens extends, the lens cap keeper stays on with no problem!! This item worked even better than expected and was worth a lot more than I paid for it.
I LOVE THIS ITEM and would recommend it to anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so far so good
I bought this for a 30mm 1.4 prime (short but fat). The elastic that goes around the lens body fits snuggly. I would not try to fit this around a larger diameter lens. My lens is pretty short, so the length of the lanyard is just fine. The "button" seemed to stick to the lens cap just fine. If it falls off, I'll get out the super glue.
You don't want to lose the lens cover
Before getting this, I was hesitant on how it may look on the camera. I thought the circular attachment on the lens cover may cause bulkiness and and an unpleasant look. I was really suspicious. But as soon as I put it on and got my way around it, I am happy with it, I don't notice it that much. It holds the cover firmly and until this moment I haven't gotten any troubles with it. It's good. It does what it has to do.
Nice for the price
I've misplaced my lens cap more times than I can count. This keeper is one of the handiest items I've bought for my Nikon. I wish the adhesive were a little sticker, but other than that, it's great!
Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S VR Zoom Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
The all new high-powered 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor lens - (4.3x) - featuring Nikon's Enhanced Vibration Reduction (VRII) technology is ideal for sports, wildlife, travel and portrait photography, among other telephoto applications. It incorporates many of Nikon's most advanced lens design attributes such as Extra Low Dispersion (ED) glass, Silent Wave Motor technology (SWM) and Enhanced Vibration Reduction (VR II), in a design engineered for use with both Nikon DX format digital and 35mm film SLR cameras. With a high-powered 70-300mm focal length range, the lens is ideal for sports, action, wildlife, travel and portrait photography, among other telephoto applications. When used on a Nikon DX format digital SLR, this lens approximates the picture angle performance of a 105-450mm lens on a 35mm SLR camera. Beyond the lens' incredible optical versatility is the benefit of Enhanced VR II Vibration Reduction -- an innovation that makes it possible to take substantially sharper handheld pictures at slower shutter speeds than would otherwise be possible. This provides the distinct advantage of being able to shoot more effectively in a much broader variety of challenging conditions. With the new Nikon VR II advantage, users can take pictures at shutter speeds as many as 4 stops slower* than they ordinarily could shoot without the image degrading blur associated with camera shake at slow shutter speeds. Nikon's advanced VR technology further enhances picture taking potential with a choice of two modes to match most shooting conditions. VR Normal Mode primarily compensates for camera shake, and includes automatic panning detection, as well as automatic tripod detection. VR Active Mode effectively compensates for vibration in situations where it is more pronounced and more frequent, such as when shooting from a moving vehicle. To further ensure outstanding optical performance, the 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor features two Extra-Low D

Pro quality at an affordable price
I will make this short and sweet. This lens is good. One of the best bargains out there. On my D60, it balances sweetly and gives you the feeling of a pro. The rubber barrel of the lens is smooth during focusing and auto focus speed is relatively fast for a f/4.5 lens. The optics is near tack sharp out to 250mm which will cover your zooming range 95% or more of the time. Although not an indoor lens you can get good pics indoor but my companion to this lens is the ultra light weight and cheap 35mm f/1.8 ($199) which covers most of my indoor needs (except sports). With those two lenses you are well covered most of the time. My last purchase hopefully this xmas will be the 105 VR. In any event this lens can be had as low as $390 (fairly used or refurbished - like mine) from eBay (appologies to amazon).
Great lens
I have had this lens for a couple of months now and it is by far one of my better lenses. I have shot closes up pictures of plants, insects, birds etc... I have it mounted my Nikon D90 and it is just perfect! I very recently bought a sigma 150-500mm telephoto zoom lens, and it should arrive tomorrow. I hope it will be as good as this lens maybe even better. For any average to professional photographer, I highly recommend this lens. The lens will not fit in small camera cases but in medium size cases (what i have) it fits snugly. Like i said, the Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S Zoom Nikkor lens is perfect for photographers average to professional.
Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S VR Zoom
This lens is amazing for the money. One of the best bang for the buck!!! I did a lot of research before purchasing this lens. I did a lot of searches on lens review websites and was fortunate to test a couple of lenses to narrow my decision down to a couple of options. In the end, I chose this wonderful zoom lens. I takes some great photos when paired up with the Nikon D90 camera body. I am what you would call a pro-sumer photographer, just starting to sell my work. I can't justify stepping up to the $2,500 pro bodies or $4,500 pro lenses. So if you want a excellent quality lens that can take some amazing quality photos at a reasonable price (for the photography world that is), I would recommend this lens to anyone.
Awesome Lens for the price! Get one...
This lens is excellent. I purchased mine here on Amazon to shoot a GrandAm Daytona Prototype race where I was granted media access to all sections of the track and pits. WOW. This lens is FAST focusing and SHARP. The only drawback is that I was not used to the length and I kept smacking the lens hood into the Armco barrier.
I shoot with both a D700, and a D300. Since the D300 has the 1.5x crop factor, making this lens a 105-450mm I used it, handheld to shoot 5,011 images in three days. I also used the D700 with a 28-200 mostly on the wide end for pit action such as tire changes, etc.
All I can say I can't be happier with my purchase!
Buy this lens
Buy and use this lens, you will not be sorry. I am very happy with autofocus speed and sharpness on my D90 and D50. My only gripe (personal to me because of a physical handicap) is the weight. It's a tad heavy for me, but I grin and bear it. The struggle is worth the results.

Great portrait lens
This lens has a decent build quality, sufficient if you plan to hold it in your camera bag. The huge advantages over the zoom lens are:
1) The weight - it weights nothing, very light, especially for entry level DSLRs
2) The price - near one hundred bucks price tag makes it a great deal
3) The low light performance and shallow depth of field - no zoom has 1.8f aperture. You can blur the background much better than with zooms and shoot nice portraits. I compared it, for example with kit lens, which is not even mile close. It still can take pictures without flash when my $1000+ zoom can't.
Some cons, although nothing critical:
1) The sharpness at f/1.8 is not that great for portraits, but improves significantly at f/2.
2) The lack of image stabilizer makes it difficult to shoot at slow shutter speeds without tripod.
3) The manual focus ring is too narrow, though perfectly usable
4) The lens is 50mm, which is perfect for portraits and people shooting when on full film size sensor, but on cropped sensor, like most of the DSLRs have today, it's 1.6x50=80mm. With this focus length, it's difficult to shoot full body portraits inside, there must be enough distance to the object. Outside it is less critical, but still noticeable. When I use the zoom lens, I often set it to about 35mm for full body portrait.
Overall it's a good buy and great value for money. I recommend it, but not as a single lens.
Yipee!
I really struggled with buying this lens for a long time. How could something this inexpensive be any better than the kit quality lenses I already own. Looking at all the sample images and comments finally pushed me over the edge and I am glad they did.
This little gem has been giving me clearer pictures than I have been able to achieve for the most part since getting my XSi camera early December 2009. I am even able to do some very nice quazi macro work until I get a real macro lens, and the bokeh is really beautiful. Taking portrait shots of people, well I just can't say enough good things about that.
This is going to keep me entertained until I can afford to buy more expensive glass, but hey, I live in California, and work for the state. Can you say 'furlough'?
Go for it!
Awesome for 2 months, now blurry
I have hardly used this lens and abused it in no way. After 2 months it's no good to me because I can't get a sharp picture out of it. The AF is way off. If I manually focus I can come close, but no cigar. All my other lenses are awesome so I know its not the cameras fault.
You get what you pay for
You get what you pay for and you don't pay much for this lens, however, what you get for the price is surprising. If you can get past the cheap build quality you'll be pleased to find that this lens takes excellent quality photos. Shooting wide open (at f/1.8) gives you a wonderful blurred background and it's easy to achieve your depth of field goals with this little beauty. That said, I do find the auto focus to be a bit temperamental at times and do sometimes miss a shot having to refocus the lens. This wouldn't have been enough to deter me from the purchase though. For just under a hundred bucks it really is worth any little quirks and it lets you try out the feel of a prime lens without having to fork out the nearly five hundred dollars for the 50mm 1.4.
Overall, very pleased and I think this lens is a steal.
My Go-To Portrait Lens
For the price of this lens you can't go wrong. Picture quality is great. Its made of plastic but shouldn't but too much of a big deal for most people I'm sure. This is apurchase I won't regret.

Lens excels under pressure
In desperate need of a lens for sports photography, the Canon EF 75-300 telephoto lens has been superb. I was missing so many good shots with a non-Canon lens because I guess it wasn't adaptable but this lens has made me forget those troubles in a hurry. Just a solid lens bought at a very reasonable price that's capable of bringing into focus a game's action like the way it was meant to be.
Eh...
I know you get what you pay for, but for a $200 piece of glass I expected a little more. The max aperture of f/4.0 hasn't bothered me yet, but I haven't had the chance to put it to its fullest yet. I'm glad I bought this lens, but I wish lenses weren't so expensive because for a 16 year old I can't really afford the thousand dollar lenses. I definitely recommend the use of a monopod, or tripod because hand holding this on the 300 side is almost impossible to get a clear shot unless your shooting over 1/200 at Least. Plus at 300 it gets considerably darker because of the changing of the aperture to 5.6. Also if you focus on a subject at 75 then zoom to 300 the subject becomes blury which is really annoying if you're manual focusing.
A well-rounded telephoto; a nice "next step" for beginners.
I think this lens has gotten a bad rap simply because most people misunderstand its intended use. If you're looking to get this lens, chances are that you've just bought an entry-level Canon EOS kit (like a Rebel XS or something comparable) and are now looking to move to the next step. This is a good "next step" lens. No, this is not a top-of-the-line telephoto lens. However, if you just want a simple telephoto that is inexpensive but will get the job done, this is a good lens. It's a good lens for capturing faraway subjects (like birds and other animals) without having to get too close, but doing this takes practice (with ANY lens).
For the money you spend, this is a good, durable lens. It attaches easily to a Canon mount, and it returns good-quality images. One of the drawbacks to this lens is that the AF servos are a bit sluggish; since most people use this lens for photographing animals, this can be problematic. However, as with any SLR lens, this lens can be focused manually. Although this lens is considerably heavier than a typical 18-55mm lens, it is still lightweight compared to most telephotos. The zoom is very easy and quick to use, which will be helpful for bird photography. One use that I have found for this lens is that it is excellent for pet photography if you have outdoor pets.
If you're in the Amazon trying to photograph the ruby-throated, only-ten-left-in-the-entire-world hummingbird for National Geographic, then you'll probably want to go buy a more upscale lens. However, if you just want a simple and inexpensive lens that you can use to sit on your porch and take a picture of the gold finch sitting on your bird feeder, this is a good lens and a great value.
Not a bad lens for the price
I purchased this lens with my Canon T1I DLSR. The reviews of the lens were not very good, but seeing that I could get a rebate that made the lens about $[...], I went ahead. As many have said, this lens is not great in low-light situations, and the lack of IS reduces its effectiveness. However, on the plus side, in bright light, the lens focuses quickly, and produces clean, clear, crisp photos. Just remember that this is a consumer level lens, and it is not to be used by professionals, but for the price, it works very well and really expands my zoom capabilties. If you use the lens for it's strong points, you will benefit from having it in your bag.
Priced to please
This lens is an awesome quality for what I paid for it! No regrets, whatsoever!

The best deal in Nikon photography
The title really says it all. If you have a camera with an AF motor, this is the lens to start off with. Its always nice to have a "beater" lens to take with you on riskier ventures. This is what I started my photography business with, and to this day is one of my favorite little lenses Nikon makes. Paired with my D90, just spectacular (especially compared to the entry-level zooms).
Bottom line: This is the best $125 you will spend on your gear.
I LOVE this lens!
I have a D40 which doesn't autofocus with this lens but will be buying a D90 soon which does. I went ahead and ordered it and have been using it on the D40 for a few days now. 5 stars isn't enough to rate the quality of the images that this lens produces. The images are very sharp, the colors terrific and the bokeh extremely pleasant. And I haven't found the lack of autofocus with the D40 to be a major issue either. With a lens of this speed I've found it easy to focus even in dim light.
This lens will stay on my camera most of the time.
If you are debating buying thinking you can't get much of a lens for ~$100 think again and hit the 'buy' button. You won't regret it.
Great Lens for the Cash
I bought this for my wife (so the review will be short on sweet, coz I'm not the one who uses this item), and she is absolutely in love with it. Her Nikon D90 came with a Tamron adjustable lens (or something like that); after 4 months, the lens was causing her camera to freeze and display error messages. In order to save her photos (and perhaps the happy atmosphere in our house?), I bought this lens. It has performed better than the Tamron ever did, and she is really pleased with the... aperture? (I think)
A few pros/cons
Pro:
-Cheap (for a good lens)
-Good Build Quality
-My wife loves it
-My house is filled with happiness
-It takes great pictures
Cons:
No ability to zoom (it is necessary to walk if you want to change the distance... and I guess this could be a pro too - walking is good for your health).
That's about it... My suggestion - if you are considering this lens - just buy it. It does a great job at a nice cost.
Do not let the price fool you
Don't let the low price fool you. This lens is tack sharp, fast focusing, and well built. True, the body is plastic, so what? It is a great prime lens to have in your bag. I shoot aerial photos, used it on a recent job with excellent results mounted on a D3.
Awesome providing your camera will autofocus it!
Heaps of people love this lens, quite rightly its sharp, lightweight and low in distortion and is F1.8.
However I found it a pain to use on a D40 just a quarter of a turn to focus is not enough when you are taking pictures of close-in subjects. It will annoy you! On the D90 it's fine!
However the biggest minus of them all is how unuseful a 50mm lens is on a DX camera i.e. a fixed 75MM is quite long, especially after using the kit lenses which are 18-55 for the D40 or 18-105 for the D90. By all means get one but like me you'll wonder if you should sell it to a mate (where I got mine) as well as I took it all over the World and only once put it on the camera!
The same can be said of the 35 mm AF-s DX though this is strictly a low light close in lens in my opinion and not as good as the 50mm by any chalk though has a built in motor.

Great lens, especially for the price
I really enjoy using this lens. It is becoming my new go-to lens for everything except distance shots. Great depth of field thanks to the 8 blade bokeh. Definitely recommend this over its cheaper brother. Works amazing in low light and takes super vibrant picture on 1.4. I cannot comment on the durability because I have not had the lens for long. It seems to be sturdier than my tamron lenses.
Skip the headache and the heartache and go for a better lens
I love all my canon gear. I have a 50mm 1.8 and upgraded to this as I have progressed in my photography. Unfortunately, I have had the same sort of trouble the other reviews have stated. At this point I only have had trouble with the focus under f2.2. Every shot lost in two photo shoots and I had not realized until after researching on the internet as to why.
No trouble with the AF failing as of yet, but I'm pretty disgusted that I have to redo two shoots - wasting both my time and the models time. Shame on you Canon!
very happy
I saved money getting from here, and it came pretty quickly. I am taking a photography course, and love this new lens. It is now the only lens I keep on my camera, it is perfect for portrait shots. My kids look amazing and people have been commenting on how good my photos are lately. Their face are so clear and the background can get very blurry and beautiful, it looks like a professional took these shots. I definitely recommend this lens and this website to anyone.
Good lens, but if on a budget get the 1.8
I recently upgrade from the Canon 50mm 1.8II while it has its obvious upgrade (1.4, USM, better builds etc.) I dont find the pictures that much different besides flare resistance. overall its a good lens and a good value
Like I said if you're on a budget get the 1.8, or if you have the cash or are planning on keeping this lens for 2-3 years just get the 1.4.
A good quality prime lens with just one objection
The EF 50mm f/1.4 USM is a reasonably well-built lens and offers commendable optical quality. The focusing is quick and quiet in spite of the low cost micro-USM motor. The bokeh quality is excellent, and the full-time manual focusing feature becomes very handy when the camera picks the wrong focus target at a shallow depth of field. Many users regard this lens as slightly soft when the aperture is wide open, but for low-light settings, sometimes the only choice is slightly soft or entirely unusable, and being able to stop clear out to 1.4 is then beneficial. The use of a 58mm filter ring ensures access to a wide range of quality filters at reasonable prices.
In most respects the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM is worth the upgrade from the EF 50mm f/1.8 II, which begs the question of why Canon designed the front element to travel outside of the lens barrel during focusing. That sort of cost-saving measure is expected on a $100 basic lens like the EF 50mm f/1.8 II, but not on a higher-end prime costing over $300. Fortunately, the moving front element does not rotate on either of these lenses, so position-sensitive filters such as circular polarizers and partial-gradient ND filters will not be disrupted by focusing operations. However, other popular mid-grade Canon primes have no external movement, including the EF 20mm f/2.8 USM, EF 28mm f/1.8 USM, and EF 85mm f/1.8 USM.
A first-time dSLR user would be better served with the 50mm f/1.8 II, and higher-end buyers would be better served with the 50mm f/1.2L, if for no other reason than to delete the external travel on the lens barrel. For everyone else, the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM is an essential part of any well-rounded camera kit.

It fits, but not a perfect fit!
I bought this lens hood for my Canon Rebel XS/1000D. It does what its meant for and as described its 58mm so I can use it on both my lenses - the 18-55 & 55-250. However, it is not a perfect fit when you try to screw it onto your lens and I was worried about damaging the threads on my lens. The way around for this is to screw it to a filter first and then screw the filter to the lens since it would be cheaper to replace a damaged filter rather than replacing a damaged lens. Also, you will have to tighten/loosen the hood to get it in the position you want. It also does not come with a center-pinch lens cap, so you cant put the lens cap on the lens while the hood is on. And you can't put the hood facing back on the lens when the time comes to pack up and put the camera in the bag. Well, you get what you pay for and I guess all the hoods available within this low price range are similar. I haven't used original canon hoods so cannot compare.
Gets in the way
Bought this lens hood for the standard 18-55mm lens which came with my Canon T1i SLR. The lens hood is mounted on the focus ring and therefore when auto-focus is used the hood rotates with the lens. The problem is that at the wide angel focal length the hood actually gets in the picture. This is probably not an issue with a lens above 28mm.
great product
this product gives a new look of your dslr. my Xsi looks more professional than without it. with the price you can't go wrong. the material is plastic but looks like it could protect your lens as well.
one thing i've notice about this product is that it's difficult to screw in with a filter onto the lens.
for a standard adult hands it's really hard to screw in. i wish there could be a simplier way to put it in and out of the lens since i have this wide angle adapter and micro lens that i frequently inter-change for my shooting styles.
giving 3 stars for this because it's so difficult to put it in and out of my lens; overall this works great for giving extra shade for your lens.
good product
good product as described, but once i got it and put it on my camera, i didnt like the way it looked and felt on the camera. so i took it off. I think its in the trash now.
Value for money
Good for what you are paying for but if you want more ease of use i will suggest go for the snap on one they are better as you can remove and rotate them in a click.
